It's just teenage fantasies. At least girls don't shoot up their school for being rejected by boys. Instead they write on wattpad. 🙈 It's a semi-healthy outlet.
The story writing is bad but forgivable when you realise it was written by a 15 year old. The fact grown adults thought it was a good idea to develop it past Wattpad popularity is just horrific.
@@theaboveaveragefangirl well to be fair it was years ago not that it makes it right but only now are they trying to show more healthy relationships instead if dramatic ones. I mean look people still think riss and Rachel are a good couple after all these years.
I hate how Elle has no ambition of her own; she applies to Berkeley not out of love for the major, activities, or anything about the actual college, but rather to continue her mother’s legacy and solidify her friendship with Lee. Then, she decided to apply to colleges in “Boston” with little to no research or care, just to become close to Noah. Not to mention all the colleges in “Boston” are extremely different and we still have no clear indication of what she is pursuing.
Why does she need ambitions of her own? It's not like she's has character or something....oh wait...does she...have a character? a personality?....yay? nay?
Having played KI back on the Super Nintendo, I would love it if that gsme came to the Playstation. But there's much more I enjoy on PS than XBox so...alas, we are two loves who are not destined to get back together. Actually, I often got my ass kicked and those fucking half-circle combos with Jago giving me Nintendo thumb made it painful to even play with him for long. Then, tired out by the story campaign, I get to the end all for Idol to beat the everloving daylights out of me, brutal beatdowns that still haunt my nightmares. Nah...XBox can keep Killer Instinct 😂
I hate myself for wasting my brain cells on this movie's logic but if they're trying to be trendy and going to make Elle a gamer (stupidly irrelevant) why use Killer Instinct ?! They could use Fortnite since it's newer and their target audience would play that
Diversity doesn’t ruin movies, directors and writers don’t know how to properly do it. You’ve been watching horrible movies with ‘diversity’. Watch a good one and then come back.
@@mariebunn45 mmm. Another negative person. I din't even see this bullsh*t. But everything in this world is going wrong right now. Directors and writers are just mumppets in this movie industry. They have no power! Times changed. So STFU you piece of sh*t. You don't know who you are dealing with!
I feel like her saying the movie was “critic proof” is code for I hated the movie but it pays my bills so I can’t say anything bad about it so I wanna challenge the internet to trash it.
UberMan5000 thats how a lot of movies are. Especially teen rom coms. Teens will watch literally anything as long as it has cute boy, plain boring girl who get boy for some reason, and quirky gay/black sidekick who make funny joke or is sassy. That’s how you know Jamie King has sold her soul cause I would think most established actors want quality over quantity. But hey, money.
The fact that they portrayed the “gay” people in the movie as having no personality traits and significance in the movie other than just being gay and making Elle seem like a remotely good person for helping him and having a point of view on him coming out to her that would be accepted by the majority of people watching is just offensive and it’s like they put the “gay” scenes in parentheses because if the movie was a sentence and those parts were in parentheses they could just remove the parts in parentheses without it having any effect on the sentence other than just it being an add-on.
Yup. This is how we are treated in like every single movie. Straight Girl Savior is a real thing. Cause ya know, no gay can learn to love themselves and other men unless a heterosexual woman gives them a paragraph of encouragement that is really just about her own relationship issues.
Elle- Sexualizes, kisses and goes out with a guy when she has a boyfriend Noah- Breathes the same air as another female Elle- Peace was never an option
Twilight is not this bad. I know it gets a lotta hate, but in twilight I feel the characters are more self aware, the books definitely that, and I think the same about the movies. Like I understand the motivations of edward and bella. They cannot be compared to these people. Just my opinion. I feel the teenage content has either declined in quality or I have grown up. Either way I don't like the comparison. Twilight has it's demerits, but I feel it's 10 times better than this piece of television.
I mean, in Twilight, Bella was hella bland but what made her different was that she was human while the other main characters were supernatural. In this movie, Elle is literally just a girl shown to have no talents or personality whatsoever.
with the twilight renaissance everyone started watching it again but more for comedic purposes and realizing that Edward and Bella's relationship was really toxic and a lot of things didn't make sense/were wrong, i honestly cannot wait for that to happen to this movie
Holy frick. Even highly intelligent people get rejected for different reasons and yet she gets in? As I heard, getting into Harvard means you have a passion for the field you are going into and I honestly don't see that here.
How did she get into 2 schools and how tf is she still dating that SON OF A BIT## NOAH ESPECIALLY AFTER KISSING THAT OTHER DUDE and it's not a chicken wing it's a undercooked chicken biscuit wrap
That "Get in the car, Elle!" Was honestly terrifying for me and I've been privileged enough to not experience abuse. I can't imagine how triggering that must've been
Sure seems like alot of people are upset over that scene. The only thing to take away from all this is what a brainless shit film is not how awful and triggering him hitting the hood is, good God people have some thicker skin.
@@AK907LSD25 The film neutralises this kind of abusive relationship, and your response is that people get some thicker skin? As someone who hasn't gone through such harrowing experiences so I couldn't possibly imagine the extent to how insulted some victims of abusive relationships would feel seeing this comment. This is really, really scummy of you to say. I don't take The Kissing Booth that seriously due to how dumb it is, but do you think that scene isn't going to cite anger for the film brushing the scene off? This is what some abusive relationships are like, someone showing physical violence to get the victim scared enough into admission due to the abuser manipulating them to stay. Slamming your hand on the hood and yelling "Get in the car, Elle!" This is a bad situation. I can't believe I need to say these words. Then again, I can't believe I need to specify that when dealing with such sensitive topics, you should actually show some level of maturity. I'm not claiming you aren't allowed to make black comedy, but in certain situations, this is unacceptable.
@@grettoonist4997 the highlight is you saying in certain situations this is unacceptable meaning reality, which is 100% correct that behavior is not acceptable in reality. But this is some piece of shit Netflix film. I couldn't come up with a metaphor that's more distant from reality if I tried. So hurt feelings in this context is trivial at best.
@@AK907LSD25 Yes, this is a terrible Netflix film that has very little good about it, so whatever it does or says, you would figure it's not worth this level of criticism because it's a terrible Netflix film that has very little good about it? Why? What reason would that be? And besides, it's not that accurate of a case since it's on Netflix and was popular enough to warrant two sequels, so it's not like you can say, "Didn't get that much attention!" The film could be even more incompetent in terms of storytelling and filmmaking, but still wouldn't change the messages that it would be conveying to its target demographic. And the situations are barely resolved, so again. You think that this would have zero implications that aren't acceptable to present? Quite a few Netflix originals are typically not of high quality, but regardless, Netflix is still a major distributor of films, they're even a member of the Motion Picture Association. And films like these being happily released are the very reason why people mock the way Netflix hires almost anyone they come across. Yes, these are fictional characters so this would be even more obscene if they were actual people in real life. Because that wrong message would be emphasised. But being a lackluster Netflix original wouldn't and shouldn't mean they have no responsibilities or tact.
It’s films like these that give me confidence about my writing/storytelling skills. The Kissing Booth is so bad, yet the script approved by Netflix. Maybe I have a chance to do something with my writing and art after all...
As someone who is lgbt, I hate the "representation" netflix shoves in their movies and shows. They spread misinformation about bisexuality and every other lgbt characters personality is " I'm gay owo"
Representation is not putting in some minority character just for getting diversity points without actual putting in the work, it's taking your time to develop the character and treat them as a person while putting them on the same level as every other character in the story. The Dragon Prince does this amazingly well, most other Netflix products don't
I'm bisexual, and I'm not someone who wears my sexuality on my sleeve. Not because it's a secret, it's just not something that defines me. I wish I could see more characters whose sexuality doesn't entirely define them, there is far more to a person than who you go to bed with.
@@ayarriba9093 indeed. I do rather like Dr Who for that, particularly Capaldi's era. Madam Vastra is still best gurl, even if her kissing her wife got people angry. Actually, pissing off homophobes is a bonus...
She actually gets accepted into Harvard, & in the kissing booth 3's trailer, she gets a call from them & rejects it. If you get a call from Harvard & you don't answer, I promise you you're not getting a second call.
I'd say so too - if they even bother calling someone who's not responding to their acceptance letter in the first place...I mean I guess they have a long waiting list full of people who actually wants to go there. But Elle is so "special" I'm sure she would get away with it.
When After came out, a bunch of my classmates were talking about how good it is and how they went/are going to see it. I died inside when I heard that.
Now, now, "The Kissing Booth 2" is perfectly balanced with "The Kissing Booth". In TKB1, Noah was the abusive one and in TKB2, Elle is the abusive one. In TKB3, they'll both be abusive!
Spoilers: I'm not sure if this is true as I've never watched any of the Kissing Booth movies. But I did come across some spoilers for the Kissing Booth 3. Noah and Elle will separate, same goes for Lee and Rachel. They reconcile a few years later, with Noah and Elle deciding to remain as friends and Lee and Rachel getting back together.
Ok I'm fourteen and the last time I was talking to my friends about this movie they were actually fangirling about how it was so sweet and romantic. These people really need to think about how they're influencing kids who haven't been through real relationships.
Pfft, you think some idiot 15 year old writing this as teen fiction is going to care or think about that? Like, I honestly don't think it's reasonable. They clearly don't have the life experience to realize that this kind of thing is bad, like your friends. What's the alternative? Not allowing people to write publicly viewable fiction until they're an adult and have experienced a predetermined amount of life? That seems not great from my perspective. No, I think the blame really needs to fall on the people who pick up these awful stories and think "hey let's make this a full novel/movie and make it big!" like this and 50 Shades. Those are people who are old enough and in my mind have the real responsibility to not promote abuse and unhealthy relationships. Without those people these stories would be far less known, and far less damaging. Just the fact that they wouldn't be implicitly endorsed by so many people by virtue of managing to get onto Netflix would remove a lot of the danger. Like, when you just read some story on wattpad or AOOO, you know on some level that that's just some person's personal writing, no more or less valid than anything you might think or write. But if it gets taken up by a movie studio, given attention and money, and put on a big site like Netflix... Well, people wouldn't allow a dangerous, bad film to be so public! So clearly this all must be okay and reasonable behavior. And of course it's not, adults are incredibly not infallible, but as a kid or teen I know that wasn't quite how I saw the world. Even if it's not a conscious thing, I think it is something that a lot of people wouldn't even realize. Anyway that's my thoughts!
As a Wattpad writer, I feel upset that things like this exist. I think I put effort and thought into what I write and all of this just y'know... *shame*
Any kind of representation should be like that. Characters who merely are a minority but they have a personality, goals, and a character arc instead of making the character revolve around their minority status
Even another bad netflix movie did better on making a gay character than in this one, in case you wonder which one it was, it was in to all the boys I've loved before
Elle is a heartless character and the worst thing about this is that she is hardly ever reprocussed for her actions, for example when she cheated on Noah and nobody ever spoke of it again in the film, also when she basically wrote a wattpad fanfic about the new guy at school and broadcasted it to the entire school and NOBODY ever speaks of it again and that entire subplot was all just a ploy to get Elle and Marco to start talking. Not to mention how she was completely clueless about how she was destroying Lee and Rachel's relationship even after confrontation because ofc Rachel forgives her after 1 convo. Besides Elle I think the second most toxic character is Lee for trying to control Elle's entire life and treating his girlfriend like absolute garbage the entire time they were together. Lee also seems to care more about Elle dating his brother than his own brother because when Elle dates him Lee is an infuriated piece of shit but when she cheats on him he litterally doesnt mention anything about it. Also that one goth girl that was from the intercom scene that had absolutely no relationship to Elle at all is seriously the girl that yells at her and flicks her head in the first film because she interrupted her make out sesh.
I hate how the KB 1&2 is lumped in Netflix Originals with Bojack Horseman and F is for Family, both superior forms of entertainment over Generic Teen Movie
I'm bi and getting real sick of gay characters being thrown into movies with no actual character or personality, other than "gay," simply for brownie points. If you can cut out the character and lose nothing it's not representation.
Of course they can’t be main characters or have any sort of actual effort put into their creation because that’d be hard, but look, we acknowledged that gay people and black people... exist! As stereotypes and plot devices! How progressive!
the fact that elle was mad about noah having a girl bestfriend and was jealous of her, but she failed to realise that she is literally the same thing for Rachel. Atleast Chloe didn't third wheel into their relationship like elle did in lee and rachel's. Also, she is only friends with dudes herself. How you gonna get mad at your bf for having a girl friend along with 4 guy friends, when you yourself don't have a single girl friend🤦
@@theoverratedchannel6225 exactly and she was literally spending quality time with a dude behind her bf's back but was mad at him for having a girl friend??
TBH, Marco was actually an ok character. He did not kiss Elle, but she kissed him. Yeah he wooed her, but he did not ask her to cheat. Also, about the earring scene, ELLE LITERALLY SEES CHLOE IN HIS ROOM ON VIDEO CALL??? DOES IT NOT OCCUR TO HER THAT IT COULD HAVE FALLEN OFF THEN AND GOTTEN KICKED OFF???????
yea they deserved way better, I would even want to be with elle if she was ganna replace me with the next hot guy she sees never go for a cheater, if they do it once, nothing is stopping them from doing it again
I would agree with you, but Marco still got too close to Elle even after finding out she was in a relationship. He constantly flirted with her and made suggestions that they should get together (from the “I would never treat you like that”). Plus after she kissed him, he tried getting into a physical fight with Noah for no reason, which was a dick move. The guy’s been fucked over and cheated on by his girlfriend which was perpetuated by Marco himself, and he had the audacity to try and rub it in Noah’s face and get him to fight? He just became very unlikeable from that, and even after Elle rejected him, he still implies that he’s not gonna give up on her.
I just want everyone to keep in mind that "Lee" is 24 and just got married, his "girlfriend" in the movie is 30 years old, frikin 30 year olds playing teens!!!!!!!
Oh, good. Now I don't feel dirty for thinking she was smokin' hot ... and also way too good for any of these other characters she hangs around in the movie.
Lol a tenth of the students of my year who graduated are in jail, you can get through high school and still have the intellectual capabilities of old wood.
Noah can’t be just friends with a girl without being suspected of cheating, but How does elle not understand how Rachel feels when she’s basically doing the same shit by hanging out with lee all the time 🤔🤔 I love bad movies but this is not it , we don’t need or want sequels for it !!
L2K7H 000 funny how she can kiss a whole other dude on stage humiliating Noah and that’s just glossed over. While accusing him of cheating only on suspicion 💀💀💀
@@berisadm tea!!!! Oh yeah and how she was slow dancing with Marco and went on a DATE with him while talking about not trusting Noah💀 And then there are people (fans) who say " idc Noah cheated" like they didnt even watch the movie and saw ELLE CHEATING and how they explained why Chloes earring was under Noahs bed... honestly Elle is the worst character from the WHOLE movie and we are supposed to empathize with her 💀 LMFAO she didnt deserve Noah nor did she deserve Marco
I recently watched this movie on a drunken "shitty netflix movies" marathon with my pals and I still remember the screams of complete drunken rage when we found out that, after reaching the half point of the movie, we still had another hour to suffer trough. That night we lost our humanity and turned into enraged apes screaming at a tv. Oh and we contacted Harvard telling them that we saw the movie and they had to accept us (btw I live in italy and we sent that message in italian to make them even more confused)
The main characters in this movie are toxic awful people. How much more if the teenagers watching this modeled themselves and their relationships after them?
Precisely, but these execs know how to play teens like a keyboard. "Le PlainJane McMary Sue hooks up with Attractive Male. Insert Trendy Song & Vapid Styles. Yay Money"
I'm a mexican 8th grader and my classmates love this movie (especially the girls), they think Lee and Elle are an example of a good "Best friend" relationship Please kill me
Where are the parents of these Netflix teens? Obviously Elle's mother died, but what about the father? Did he leave for the cigarettes again? Edit: nvm, Elle's dad is mentioned. But my point still stands over control freak and psychopath.
Susan H She works because she’s 21 and has a baby face. Unfortunately the rest of the cast are 23+ and looks like adults with jobs and taxes to deal with
As a gay man myself, when I first watched this ... shitpost, not gonna disgrace films by calling this a movie. I was SO confused by the introduction of the gay arc. I was like, "Who is this guy? He's not Noah's brother. Elle doesn't have any friends." and by the end I was basically the Avacado kid. "False gay narrative ... Thaaaaannnnnkksssss." Edit: I still have access to my parent's gmail account on YT and forget to switch out sometimes. So no Michelle is NOT my name.
Actually the smartest thing in this movie was Noah telling Elle to apply to more colleges.... you don’t put all your eggs in one basket!!!! I would have LOVED if Lee got rejected from Berkley and he had no back up school! Seriously!!! And with the whole “funny emphasis” on Elle having back ups to back up pants (or whatever), OF COURSE you have a back up school! Never, never apply to just 1 college. That’s dumb!
I wonder what would have happened if Elle didn't get accepted into Berkeley. Would Lee have decided to stay home and go to community college because that's where Elle is going?
"Hey, are you going to review The Kissing Booth 3? And The Kissing Booth 4? And The Kissing Booth 5? And The Kissing Booth: The Undiscovered Country? And The Kissing Booth: The Miniseries? And The Kissing Booth: Makeitstopmakeitstoppleasemakeitstopohjesusifyoueverlovedmemakeitstop...?!"

"In the battle of 2 tall attractive men fighting over an unintresting gremlin"😂😂😂 i fell to the floor laughing so hard my family thought i lost my mind
Marco has a reason. He's too old to even be at the school judging from his looks and the kissing booth is going to be full of minors. So, Elle and Lee asking Marco to do the kissing booth is basically asking him "Have you ever wanted to kiss teenagers and NOT go to jail?". But that's just a theory. Edit: spelling error
Inside a Netflix office. Writer: "What if we made a movie series about rich idiotic teenagers." Yes-man: "BRILLIANT, greenlight it. get some actors, and slap a kissing booth in it. We gonna make some money."
As a writer, Chloe's, Rachel's, and Marco's roles in the movie made me extremely angry. If you can only drum up romantic drama by creating new characters or recycling old ones for poorly written plot contrivance, you need to rethink your creation. Marco an Chloe only existed to give Elle something to get her pretty little mind all worked up over. And Rachel had her character absolutely assassinated in this film. The writers clearly don't care about their characters, and instead see them as nothing more than tools to get the plot to where they needed it to go.
I actually agree with you, the Characters exist only just to be THERE, or not make some emotional conflict but when everything is sorted out the writer just forget about them and then you completely realize where's the other Characters went, Evey Character should have a goal even the minor ones that only exist to be THERE in order for people to find them interesting.
@@midnightloveletterstothespirit Exactly! Like, what are these side characters' goals? Why do we care about them enough to want them in the plot? We're not shown that they have much of anything that interests them besides the main characters. They're hollow puppets.
@@abbewinter9249 I know, I don't know why but in every drama there's always like that, like that gay guy that needs advice that is only have to be THERE to show that Elle is apparently an understanding and helpful person, just like Rachel who is only there just so Lee and Elle have some kind of friendship conflict but at least make a goal for Rachel, she's nothing more than just Lee's girlfriend the OMG girls are there just to make Elle's life hell only that, all the characters are so three dimensional and dull. Before I started writing I did a LOT of research and planning because I don't want my story to be as shitty as this, the things that I don't know about I research them, I read a lot of How To's but I feel this writer is just winging it and end up to be more successful.
Honestly, us gay men are used to being a plot device for the straight girls. It’s the exact same every time. We struggle with accepting ourselves, have a crush, straighty compares our struggle to hers, when we finally come out it’s all thanks to The Almighty Straight Savior.
Me and my friends watched both the movies at a sleepover and we all agreed that the only relationship we were rooting for, were the gay background couple
I usually skip ads, but you made an irrefutable argument, that being: we made you watch this garbage, so we should have to watch your ad. So I watched it.
i could TELL, i have wattpad and trust me, it's every stereotype of a wattpad story pushed into one. the only thing they were missing was a fcking mafia where the love interest's name is ash
I had to pause to take a breath of that wholesome moment that he just had with his transcontinental gf 🥺🥺🥺 that was more romantic than both these movies put together
I hate that there's a movie with another main character called Elle who gets into Harvard to become closer to a man and yet it's SO MUCH BETTER than this garbage heap :(
that “get in the car Elle” scene always upsets me. imagine normalizing verbal abuse? i watched my mom go through that shit for five years. this is sick. shame on netflix for allowing it on their site. jesus. by the way, have you heard of the kissing booth 2? you should review it.
Simply Noodles one of my best friends loves these, and I tried telling her how creepy and gross they were, her reason ‘bc there’s a really cute gay relationships!!’
ThatAngelFoto Elle basically saying the guy she’s been through the same thing when he’s a closeted gay man and she still follows what everyone says and is awful pissed me off immensely.
Terra_the _Nightingale Yea, I happen to have better taste in that stuff (I.e the muppets and marvel) and she doesn’t really notice when she’s being a bitch or someone else is... which is most of the time
My play sister loved this movie. I tried telling her about the obvious signs of manipulation and abuse in the movie but she said, and I quote, “the abuse wasn’t physical so there was no abuse, Ti’kera”
@@HugeniaCooney I'm white but I hate these movies. Only watched them via reviews like this so I don't have suffer ads of it if subscribed to Netflix. xD
Two friends-who believe it or not are older-convinced me to watch this even though I didn't see the first film. Everything in this review is on point ... but I want to add one thing. The vid mentions the semi-flirtatious scenes with Noah and Shoe at 18:20. But this drove me up the wall: It's almost all a fake-out *only intended to trick the audience* : Elle isn't there for 95% of those scenes!!! She's there for the hug, but she's across the country when she calls him handsome, when he says she's good for her, when she says she knows and picks out clothing for him, when they go on a walk and she kisses him on the cheek. Perhaps I'm missing something big, but I cannot think of a single great film that, as a huge portion of its plot, endeavors to trick its audience with scenes solely designed for the audience. Don't get me wrong-I love films that trick the audience. But in Shutter Island, every shot that confuses the audience is also meant to confuse Leonardo DiCaprio's character. In Memento, the entire reason for the hyper-non-linear plot is to allow us to see the world _as Guy Pierce's character does_ . But the scenes showing Elle's reasons for suspicion are WAY MORE TAME than the scenes that Elle doesn't see. I came away feeling like Elle was a crazy person jumping to conclusions on ridiculously little information ... WHILE I SIMULTANEOUSLY FELT LIKE SHE WAS, BY COINCIDENCE, CORRECT.
I hate the whole "men being pervs is weird but not vice versa" bullshit, y'all don't deserve to have to through that bs and have being perved on considered a joke. The fact of the matter is that this is extremely wrong no matter what parties are involved; women perving on men or men perving on men, regardless of who does it the victem needs justice and support, not to be treated like a joke. I rarely rant on anything, but that pissed me off, thank you for reading if you did
