honestly though, the true crime of the knight bus is that it didn't make a comeback in the battle of Hogwarts running over death eaters.

I think the reason there is a Knight Bus is for what Stan says...."travel for the stranded witch or wizard. " Young wizards/witches cannot use magic outside of school so they need some sort of physical transportation like a bus. You will also notice there was a particularly old witch in the bus with Harry. Maybe really elderly witches and wizards' magic aren't that reliable (think Aunt Clara in the TV show Bewitched) who might need a bus to take then somewhere.

Did you ever consider that Hermione's time-turner, which was officially ministry-approved (no way), was given to Hermione by Dumbledore, so she'll take Ancient Runes, so at least one person close to Harry would be able to read the original version of Tales of Beedle the Bard 3 years later?

It actually seems kinda sad that the knight bus could “possibly” be a transfigured magical creature that is also quite rare. 😢

Alternate theory: it never actually teleports, it just looks that way from the perspective of people calling it. Its real ability is being able to slow down time while in transit. So it still has to travel like a normal vehicle (albeit still at very high speeds) and just hones in on a raised wand like a crude GPS signal like you'd expect, but might as well have teleported from an outsider's point of view because of how it warps the flow of time. Think of it like the Wizarding World equivalent to entering Hyperspace

Another reason I always thought for the knight bus existing was that in order to apparate, you have to picture the place really clearly in your mind. If you haven’t been somewhere before, you might not be able to reliably picture it in your mind

Has anyone considered the fact that Stan should have recognized Harry in the 3rd book, considering that Stan is described as an 18 year old, so Stan should have been in his final year at Hogwarts somewhere in Harrys first 2 years?

I really like this idea on its own, but this is getting really close to the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro that makes me love it even more.

In Deathly Hallows when Bellatrix Lestrange summons Voldemort, Harry thinks to himself that 'when Voldemort gets close enough he will teleport'. I think perhaps being in another country all together may mean you can't apparate that great a distance without a portkey. So Voldemort has to fly part way before doing so.

I feel like a lot of elderly witches/wizards that do not feel confident enough to use Apparition would use the Knight Bus. Kinda like how old muggles use public transport instead of driving (they used to know how to, they're just a little scared to use it now). Also, squibs, homeless wizards/witches using it as somewhere to sleep (hence, toothbrushes available) and underage witches / wizards that need to travel without parents or magic (ie, muggle-borns who can't apparate with parents, or those that have been locked out coming home too late into the night LOL) ALSO: "HUGE ISLAND" hahahahaha the UK is tiny!!

The knight bus is a space-time magical item. Like a time turner. That's how it's able to service such a large area. There is only one because if there was a second they would crash into one another. The passengers experience things relative to non-passengers, hence the need for beds. Water may be linked to time, as in the flow of each are similar, all rivers flow to the ocean and merge, given enough time all things merge. Idk about that last part really. But the knight bus, I theorize, is a extra-dimensional object that full occupies that dimension, and leaves no room for another to exist along side it.

We understand that apparition is tricky, uncomfortable, and potentially disastrous magic, which must be regulated. Portkeys are also difficult magic (to create), so most witches and wizards rely on ones that are already in existence. Also, they must be registered. The floo network is also regulated and monitored. Brooms are expensive and uncomfortable for long journeys. I think we underestimate the number of witches and wizards who are kind of mediocre at magic. We just get so used to seeing amazing witches and wizards that we assume that everyone has the same skill level as Harry, Hermione, Voldemort, Dumbledore, or Newt. Why do they need a Knight Bus? Because there's lots of places you could go that aren't part of the Floo Network, because not everyone has the skill to apparate (especially long distances), because some people can't afford a broomstick or are going too far to be feasible, because underage witches and wizards can't apparate period, etc. And why only one for all of Great Britain? Because the wizarding world isn't as populous as the Muggle world. One is probably sufficient to service the number of people in the area. Think of how many buses are needed per capita for your local school district... When most people use other forms of transportation and this is serving a niche group, it would make sense that they *do* need one, but one is enough. But yes, the toothbrushes and hot water bottles are weird. ;)

It only needs 18 beds, because almost all wizards apparate. The bus is just for the couple who hate apparition so much they're willing to settle for whatever chaos ensues.

I had no idea how good the Harry Potter series was until about 2 weeks ago when I started the series. Now that I've finished it's honestly the best I've ever read. While the knight bus being a transfigured magical creature is interesting. I don't know that the Zouwu is a good starting point because as you stated, the Zouwu teleports. The knight bus does not, it is just obscenely fast. if it did teleport then it would not need barns and lampposts to jump out of it's way. Continuing with the transfiguration line of thinking, and to why it has not been recreated, we would take a deeper look into your example of professor McGonagall and Animagi. While a sucessful animagus transformation could lead others to seeing it as a cool thing to easily duplicate... the process would dissuade most everyone else. hence why we see so few animagi in the series. The process takes a minimum of roughly 6 weeks (for one month carry a Mandrake leaf in your mouth (and if you swallow or spit it out then you have to start over), Then place said saliva soaked leaf in a crystal Vial and add a teaspoon of dew from a place where neither Human feet nor sunlight have touched for another 7 days, and then hide it away in someplace quiet and dark while waiting for a storm. (being generous we'll say that takes at least a week and for that week) you have to do the tongue twister incantation every sunrise and sunset every day until your storm. then you still have to face your internal beast when your storm arrrives, assuming everything as gone well so far (which you don't get to choose but is theorized to be the same animal as your patronus). failed animagus transformations are also a things, with humans stuck in half animal transformations which can't be undone by magical means. It's just a permanent disfigurement if you fail. So all in all, it's a bad comparison because it's a living being transforming into another living being. straight transformation of a human into an animal actually causes that witch or wizard to be stuck in that form until another witch or wizard transfigures them back. Another Benefit of the Animagus transformation is that with practice you don't even need magic to activate it. hence why Sirius could transform without his wand. But the knight bus can't transform back and forth, plus (at least in the movies) it is very mechanically heavy and I think it is comparable to the Weasley's car from Chamber of Secrets. Arthur is a pureblood wizard and thus he doesn't have much muggle knowledge, but if a muggle born Wizard made an attempt to enchant the Knight bus with muggle based understanding of vehicles then such enchantments to protect normalcy would be much more understandable. All the same, let's look at other magical creatures in the harry potter Universe. I would submit the simple moke. A lizard with the ability to shrink at will. While it may not seem all that great in terms of speed or physical ability, but it's magical property of shrinking without compromising it's internal contents. Which we see the Knight bus shrink, curve, and bend while only moving the items inside through momentum, but not changing their location inside. Just as a moke skin purse would be able to shrink without pushing out it's contents.

I had a though ages ago that "jump out the way" sound more like the bus isnt phyysically travelling the streets. Just that looking out the window you can See where you would be on the real world. I always imagined that the bus travels the same way as Flu travel but was intended for wizards who could not access the flu network for some reason. Hence when travelling the bus dissapears into the network then re-appears when it stops. @SuperCarlinBros

Thing is, the Knight Bus would have started off as being a animal drawn omnibus. Regular horses would not have worked too well for drawing it and offering quick transportation, and neither would most other magical creatures, even thestrals. So it makes sense that the animal originally harnessed to the bus would have been a zouwu, something that was large, strong, and incredibly fast. Maybe when engines started to become more common thirty years after the Knight Bus was begun, they just transfigured the zouwu into the engine of the vehicle, and it's been popping about ever since.

I've always assumed that the Knight Bus sorts of Teleports as it drives, kinda like its bending the space around it and jumping around everywhere, which makes sense because they have to pick people up from everywhere. So they just teleport to pick the people up, then start teleport jumping across the country to get them to the place all the while just zooming around. That would explain why they run into so many stuff because they are teleporting to random places. Maybe it saves gas/magic power if they don't teleport all at once and just take short trips instead? Still super excited for this video though, I would like to see what you guys think it is

It's enchanting isn't it? With a dissilusionment charm and more fancy charms. Like Sirius Black's bike and Arthur's car. In the book it says it's enchanted. Enchanting is experimenting with or putting charms in an object or in this case a bus.

This actually made me realise something about potions. If ingredients are rare, why not just cast Geminio (the doubling charm) on them? That way, you can have as much of the ingredient as you like

On the Voldemort flight issue. I was a rereading Deathly Hallows recently and I think the reason why he has to fly is because you can’t apparate inside of Numengard (which kinda makes sense, right?) so while he flies I think he says something like he’s close to where he can disapparate. It’s definitely not made clear in the text, but I think of the plot holes in HP, this is not one of them. Now, one thing that’s bothered me for a long time. Blast-ended screwt scales reflect magic right? Sure would be a shame if someone thought to make armor out of them...

Couldn’t the bus just be somehow similar in magical construction as the enchanted car that Ron and Harry steal? Was waiting for that part of your theory to come in and was disappointed when it didn’t. That car was somehow sentient, so maybe the bus is similar but just slightly different.

I think that there are limits to how far you can apparate and that Voldemort was too far away when Harry was at Malfoy Manor which is why he flew. Maybe you could do a video on the limits of the different types of wizarding travel and why some options would be chosen over others in certain situations. Like why did Newt chose to use a Portkey to get to Paris? Or why didn't the MACUSA use a portkey to transport (not) Grindelwald?

I jusg had a realization- we never see voldemort aparate, is it maybe because in order to aparate you need to move your entire body and sould to the new location, which he cant do since he has horcruxes which are stationary objects that cant be aparated with, i feel like that would explain a lot

Everytime I hear you question why Voldemort couldn't apparate I get confused, because he definitely could apparate. I've just read Deathly Hallows and it says this: ""Good!" she leered. "Draco, pick them up! The Dark Lord is coming, Harry Potter! Your death approaches!" Harry knew it; his scar was bursting with the pain of it, and he could feel Voldemort flying through the sky from far away, over a dark and stormy sea, and soon he would be close enough to Apparate to them, and Harry could see no way out." So he could apparate, it's just that he was too far away to do so. I believe he was interrogating Grindelwald at this time so was abroad. You can't apparate to another country.

At some point when Voldemort was flying over the ocean, Harry “knew that soon, he would be close enough to apparate”. I think it was when Nagini called him to Godrics hollow. I assumed there were limitations on the distance you could apparate, which is why flying came in handy?

My thought was always that objects "jumping" out of the way was metaphoric of them flying by very quickly, or maybe that they appear to be jumping out of the way while the bus flies past as spacetime warped around the bus.

hey---so i always figured there were beds at night, like when harry got on the bus. i believe there are regular seats during the day, thus holding more wizards and perhaps holding to a set schedule...serving the whole country side. at night...less ppl, and so they can answer when the right hand gets stuck out, and only need so many beds. AND i bet they could magic another bed, should another passenger board.
