Sadly people are STILL doing this, I've tried out the Blue summoning and actually teamed up with some invaders (Thankfully not all of them were instantly hostile) to take out the Host hidden up on the inaccessible bridge in Liurnia. Feels good.

afk farming was never about the runes, as you mentioned there are better ways to get them. It’s always been about griefing invaders and abusing the blue system. that’s why these people are never actually AFK.

Option number 3, if the afk farmer isn’t actually afk: message them, convince them to kill themselves. It works surprisingly well. Once I ran into a guy doing the academy gates. I’m basically fully geared, but they patched Marika’s hammer so I can’t use it to get to him and he’s dodging all the usual tricks. I say fuck it and message him “I’m going to sit in your world and kill every single blue that comes in. You get nothing, I get to play the game.” And that’s what I did, for the next forty minutes I killed hunters, sometimes with the help of the Night’s cavalry and Cuckoo knights down the road. I messaged again, “You’ve basically trapped yourself in a prison of your own making, you can’t leave unless I do or you kill yourself, and I’m not leaving.” A minute later he leapt off the bridge. Another message, “That’s what I thought, blocked.” My friends, I’m not proud of how good that made me feel. I know that, realistically speaking, I should not be diamond-hard because I got one over on some griefing loser, but I am the man I am.

The most insane part is that even if you dont wanna put in effort, cheat engine and the great merchant mod exist. So they're not only dumb enough to pay for runes they are giving money to someone else most likely for something that cost them nothing to do.

Btw. there is a relatively efficient way to afk farm, without being a little sh*t to the community. In the Radahn dungeon; use mimic veil, position yourself in a relatively unnoticeable, but still not too far away place and wait as the ghosts murder each-other, while respawning eternally

After seeing the Liurnia roof campers i had a fun idea so i remade my character to look like a big dumb duck man, named him shoot the duck and would hop up on the roof and use taunters and i'd wait till they spotted me, do the ring gesture so they could shoot me, id heal once and the game was on, i'd then slowly walk back and forth across the roof and each time i got shot id get a bit more dodgey until i died, I hope people had fun with my little mini game.

This takes me back. I made a character with the serpent bow and rot arrows, complete with Jar canon and Nihil and I would just invade in and out of Liurnia. My name was "AFK Patrol" and I would take them out whenever I could. Any time I invaded legit players I dropped them some of me prawn for being good and then left.

For the love of Miyazaki, they put a rune farm into the game that's 10 times faster than AFK farming. You also could password summon your max level friend and wait for your buddy to invade your game.

AFK farmers never really bothered me, sure they gain runes from me leaving but it’s not like I’m losing the runes, and honestly them gaining runes isn’t really making them any better, I never understood people getting so pressed about it. one thing I will give afk farmers is that they are right about invaders wasting their time, all that time your spending looking for the afk farmer could instead be spent just invading other worlds.

The funny thing is that if you find someone who is willing to dupe items for you, you can get 10 times more that way than to buy the runes, in fact this is likely the way these people manage to get 99 of every great rune. honestly just find someone to dupe things, everyone wins.

There was a time where I was doing late-night invasions and came across one of these in Liurnia(?). I looked around for a while but eventually gave up and ran as far as I could and found a spot of my own to hide. I then went to bed. My AFK farm now. Extra funny because he was stuck with me until he chose to dc.

I got INVADED by an AFK farmer in Dark Souls 3 a while back; some streamer whose name I forgot (he had TTV at the end of his name) invaded me and my buddy at the Farron Keep, sat down on the elevator going DOWN from the Stray Demon and then put his controller down to go out to dinner with his family. About a dozen or so blue phantoms showed up and we tried to solve the issue of how to kill him at the bottom of the elevator, but in the end, I sent him an angry message, and he responded on his PSN app on his phone laughing at me. Eventually, me, my buddy and all the blues just gave up and killed ourselves. And I didn't know how to report him so I just blocked him. As much as I wish invaders couldn't re-lock shortcuts (like in Bloodborne, yeah that pissed me off when somebody went through the effort of closing ALL the shortcuts around the Yharnam Cathedral before sniping me with the cannon) and operate switches, a reasonable fix in my mind would be to force reset elevators upon landing so that you can't just sit on the switch and trap people.

The reason I play ER, Elder Scroll, and BG3 offline is I get the WOW experience without the WOW community.

On the beam on top of the putrid avatar and two knights, you can actually get to a little balcony that’s fenced off. Once you make it over, you can jump in certain spots and go completely invisible.

Jokes on you, i'm still level 1 at NG+ 7, and lemme tell you... I'm regretting every second of it. Also, i AFK'ed farmed by accident. I always have the Tongue on cause, i enjoy PvP- problem is. When someone invaded, i had to use torrent for one of them sorcery towers and it took me awhile to realize. Here i go, yeeting myself outta the window for that man.

Max lvl PvP is full of kids who think they can just kill anything with anything simply because they are max lvl , so eventually you get to show them how much of a clown they are and god it gives me life .

i find that out playing them in the waiting game is kinda funny as they typically don't have world bosses such as the erdtree avatars dealt with so i'll just go hide near one of them and go make myself something to eat while i make them alt f4 the game by using their tactic against them, i once left my game running while i went out to visit family even and when i came back they 100% alt F4'd as i was back in my world still with all my runes

They don't do it for the runes. They do it to "get back at the invaders." "Don't like it, don't invade!" is a common message you'll get if you call them out in the messages.

I'll be honest: if someone wants to farm AFK, they should do it. It's no worse than invaders who invade low-level areas when overgeared. Remember: they invade my game, so I have no obligations. I hate it when I'm invaded, but I take it like a gamer and try to have fun with it and learn. AFK is not my thing. Otherwise I mostly play offline. I once had a very nice situation in DS1, near the Firesage. Was invaded and hid a bit by the roots. Watched with amusement as the intruder ran back and forth several times to find me. I made myself noticeable at some point and waving to him, fought with him and was flattened. In the end he wrote to me and gave me tips on how I could fight better in a duel and why my attacks were predictable. Was a cool guy.

Whenever I see griefers or otherwise abuser of game mechanics I can't really feel angry at them. I'm only angry at FROM for not addressing these problems. The developers have the power to solve this issues.

FF12 also had popular afk strategies for defeating its notoriously spongy superboss that could otherwise take an ordinary endgame party hours to beat.

The only time I do passive rune farming is with the dogs and redmane soldiers before the Impassable Bridge, and it’s not really afk because you get to watch a cool ass battle and then lure more out before finishing off the survivors

the best rune farms are the ones that produce numerous crafting materials. Farm pumpkin heads and those exploding rockworm things

Ive had two experiences with xp farms, once as a blue phantom, in caelid, the rise that has the night rider on the bridge that leads to the beast clergy man, he was inside the rise so you couldn't get to him, but since I was a blue, I was able to kill the rider, which banished any reds that were in the area, meaning he didn't get runes from them if they left And one time as a invader, near the grace thats before the jelly fish shield, hiding in some bushes, unfortunately though when I found them, the host was too much for me to beat as they had stupid levels of absorbtion, due to there armour, and were using scarlet rot and sleep with the triple shot cross bow and rapier, plus i wasn't very good at them time

I wont lie, I hate invaders that twink at low levels, especially when I just want to play with a friend. However, afk farming is not the answer and just wastes peoples time.

I enjoy wasting their time right back. I got summoned as a hunter into an AFKers world, and me and the invader just chilled for 15 mins until the douche came to see where his money was. The invader absolutely shreked the AFker, and we T posed on his corpse. Good times!

Whenever I get summoned as a blue and get an AFK farmer, I give the invader a bunch of explosive great bolts and yeet myself off a cliff. Invader gets runes and a way to deal with most AFK farmers.

Dude I got an absurd amount of runes back in the day by shooting the giant crow and letting it yeet itself of a cliff over and over lol little effort and a lot of runes. Those afk farmers couldn’t even be bothered to look up methods that took even a little effort

I as an invader interrupt the activity of the Afk farmers. As? I hide in a nice place and then I turn into an object so they don't find me. Today I found an Afk farmer in the domains of Mogh, I entered a cave and transformed into a red stone by mixing with the others, hunters often arrive and unaware do the dirty work for the Afk farmer, but they can't find me 😂

It's their first game since AFK arena. This has farming areas where enemys are super slow or not a real threat.
