Davenport missed a major opportunity when the City declined to build a flood protection project when Rock Island, East Moline, Bettendorf, and Milan did. As a result the downtown and west end of Davenport has languished under repeated floods by the Mississippi River. The city has to constantly devote resources to flood fighting the river. Credit Island is a wasteland instead of being a jewel. Sad.

I was just thinking the other day what a pain in the ass it is to listen to the races as I live less than a mile from the fairgrounds and then I thought to myself, oh, if they ever pulled those fairgrounds out of West Davenport we are screwed financially. It would be a terrible thing for the West side I think it could kill it. We're now finally getting an Aldi's by Walmart on Kimberly.. So, I think I'll just shut up and not complain about the races. Even though some nights they're so loud I can hear them even with my windows shut. I'm glad people enjoy them. I can just choose to go to the movies or do something else across town for a few hours..

i love these videos. as a kid i spent my summers in iowa with family as i got older these trips happened less until they they came to a stop all together i miss iowa. Davenport and bettendorf were where i spent my time so seeing these videos takes me back and its nice to get to see the towns again.

Since you mentioned the Mrrtcrest college-going under, you should have at least mention that St. Ambrose is still in bussiness. You went past the Figge art museum and never mentioned it. Also Dsvenport is where Cary Grant died.

Economic engines for the area include John Deere on the Illinois side, Alcoa in Bettendorf, and the Army's Rock Island Arsenal. And if you're there for a visit and get hungry, visit The Filling Station and/or The Machine Shed in Davenport. And have a Made-Rite, too.

Wonderful video and I believe I will never know how you are able to cover so much detail and different areas like you do. So now I finally get to see what this place really looks like instead of remembering exits for it off the interstate. So many of the river towns have their ups and downs but the tree lined streets and rolling topography are beautiful. Thanks!

This is my hometown, I grew up in the neighborhood just east of Vander Veer. I haven't been back for several years. Unfortunately, you are correct about the crime rate, Davenport's proximity to Chicago doesn't help, there is a surprising amount of gang activity. I was surprised that St. Ambrose University and my alma mater, Davenport Central (originally Davenport High, before West and North were built), didn't make the cut. Oh well, Google Davenport Central, it's a beautiful old high school. As a teen it's pretty boring/cool to live in davenport, we have credit island which is cool to go smo- I mean walk at. The skate park is full almost all the time in summer, we have a firework show in the summer, the farmers market, and the bandit games (although my family grew out of going each game haha) downtown davenport is the best to walk in at night, especially when its cool outside. Walking throigjt the sky bridge is an experience you have to have if you live anywhere in davenport, summer is all around fun. the mall is also banging. The balk park has way more then a Farris wheel it's super cool. This video was made a few years go because of the old infrastructure. There's alot of sweet graffiti artists and cool spots where you can just hang. And there's this amazing veiw where you can see the majority of the whole downtown, davenport is honestly 10/10

I am sorry, but in my opinion you didn't show all the really nice parts of Davenport. Along River Drive there are many beautiful old Victorian homes that have been refurbished that once belonged to the more wealthy people who made money in commerce along the Mississippi. At the top of Brady Street hill there's the sprawling campus of St Ambrose University along Locust Street yo name a few. I am a transplanted New Englander. Yes Davenport is an old river city that has some areas that have not yet benefited from Urban redevelopment, especially since 2008 forward. But there are definitely many more places in this big city area that I feel you failed to highlight. Just saying.

I have family in Davenport. One thing I noticed about the city when I was driving around is how integrated a lot of the business and housing districts are. In a lot of cities you have the business district and the housing districts, in Davenport in a lot of the areas you will see some houses then some businesses then more houses then more businesses and so on. Good video. I recognized a few of the areas there.

Finally got through this video, and it was pretty good. Even if it was longer than some of your other vids(btw don't mind if some of your vids are a little long), I still enjoyed it. I really liked that area by the Vander Veer Botanical Park, and the several older residential parts of town. I do wonder if down the road, you might consider filming Le Claire, IA? Le Claire is also known as where the original store(before they opened a 2nd location near Nashville, TN) of Antique Archaeology is located, the antique store seen in the History Channel show American Pickers. Also wouldn't mind if one day you might consider filming Savanna, IL, and Oregon, IL down the road.

Yeah the problem is that in order to show "everywhere" of a city or town, you have to make the videos super long, or make a series of videos on a place if it's a larger city. When it comes to what towns I'm going to get to... as I'm sure you know, there are hundreds of small towns throughout the country, but I plan to get to as many of them as I can to a reasonable extent. Close to West High School, and just down the street from one of the cemeteries I would frequent! At that particular one, I always had to park (usually a hearse) in front of a gravestone that simply read, "FELL".

People from here like it because it's what they know. I have only met one person not from the area that likes it, but that had more to do with their job. I hate to trash an area like this, but the Quad Cites is a dumpster 🔥. Supposedly, it has near half a million in the Quad Cites area, but the whole thing feels like an endless rundown towns of 60k. Each town is pretty segregated from one another by the interstates and the Mississippi River and they don't add up to something greater than the sum of their parts. There is only one good school district in the entire Quad Cities area which is Pleasant Valley School District, causing overpriced housing in the only "decent" part of town, Bettendorf. Aside from Bettendorf, the entire area is pretty dilapidated, roads are torn up, neighborhoods are run down, and high crime in the bad areas (which make up a large portion of the area). The good, commute times tend to be short and most of your neighbors will be John Deere employees, so you can get the friends and family discount. Also you're within a weekend trip of some good cities 2-5 hours drive time one way and you can go boating on the Mississippi River if you have access to a boat. Bottom line, unless you're from here, I would not recommend moving here.

@@markleslie4277 The Crescent Bridge is downstream from the Centennial Bridge. The original rail bridge was just upstream from the Government Bridge. It was located around the intersection of River Drive and Fourth Street.

Davenport is good place to raise yo kids.. Good place to start over and revamp... Other than that... Time to leave .. But Davenport is good place... Remember we had to pay on centinenal bridge to enter rock island side...

I think it depends on the area. Typically the area west of the downtown and west locust st tend to have high areas of crime

You should’ve said as you went under the government bridge that that was where the 1st bridge across the Mississippi was, and that the current over and under swing span bridge is the 3rd attempt. The 1st was hit by the effie afton and burnt, the second burnt from lightning, and the current steel structure is the 3rd. Abraham Lincoln became a famous lawyer because he was the one who represented the railroad when the effie afton hit the original bridge

I live in Davenport. When I was growing up it was a nice place to live. Not now crime, dirty in just about every part of dav. isn't nice anymore.

I was born here, easiest birth for my Mom. LOL! My parents left the area, they called the city ‘Daven Dump’. It was sadly struggling in the 60’s when they left, sounds like it hasn’t improved much. Give people opportunities, good jobs and crime decreases.

The far northwest side of the city limits near the municipal airport is beginning to boom with industry; new Heinz and Sterlite factory and now likely a new amazon warehouse. Most of the high crime rate is due to gang issues; a lot of the Illinois side issues like to cross the river occasionally. Other than the terrible roads (of which I've lost several tires), it's not a terrible place to live. Sure as heck beats the IL side!
