@@mattk9644 Fortunately they did not. Because of laissez-faire type economic and the anti trust act, the government cannot to force a merger for the fear of creating a monopoly. In fact the CEOs and Boards of the merging companies had to testify in front of the government and jump through all kinds of hoops to prove why NYC and PRR should be allowed to merge. The government allowed the company’s to merge but never forced them to. Perhaps you have confused Penn Central with the government owned private company Conrail.
