While not an EDC, I always have a bag like that in every vehicle. Never know when you may be in an accident or locked on the road for days due to snow.
Wyrm Lyfe content idea - with the reorg and many people in new positions, it would be helpful and interesting to see who is doing what and why in the company.
I think it would also increase new viewers and subscribers as people would be more likely to start on an introduction video compared to videos with 'inside' references that are normally made in the the titles.
being already behind where you want to be, delaying the equipment you Know will work and increase productivity not only now but for the future, to Attempt something different will only lead you back to square one where you end up buying the equipment anyway. Youre doing your future selves even more disservice by not getting the right tool for the job the first time.
You mean like buying the substandard laser in the first place? They should have ponied up the dough for a more industrial laser. I would be hounding the companies of every single machine they have that is failing on a regular basis if they were told it could handle it. If they sold you a machine that can't do what they say it can, then rip them a new one.
@@DarthPoyner I have no idea about why theyre having issues on the current one. If its an environmental factor, ie.. the wood dust in the shop causimg interference, or if its a cooling problem, or if its just normal wear and tear and its because of high usage that its going down so fast. I just know that Ive almost always regretted not buying 'the better drill' the first time and tried to make something else work.
Laser tubes are a consumable part. For one that is as busy as I'm assuming they keep there, that laser should have a very expensive chiller setting next to it and I don't see one. I think this is yet another example of Doug being pennywise and pound foolish.
EDC sequence with the crew is 10/10 so wonderful seeing all our pals!! Top tier editing. Also can we talk about how Bobby is a real life DND character... dex is off the charts and actually has his equipment at all times
For EDC, this might be a different market than what you're thinking, but what about a little wooden carrying case for ear plugs. It's usually part of my EDC since I have annoyingly sensitive hearing, but I could see that being popular with other craftsmen. - For the Laser, I lean more towards Doug and say get more info about how the brand you already have works and contact owners of the laser to get some third party reviews.
One of the best episodes y’all’ve made in a while! Of course I might be biased because I like positivity instead of the doom and gloom y’all had going for a bit. But additionally it felt well edited and paced, and the jokes landed too. Keep up the great work y’all!
For EDC: definitely something to carry around medicine. Personally, I usually have my epilepsy meds, some lactase, ibuprofen and paracetamol with me every day. Some kind of pill box with compartments for different stuff would be pretty nice.
Big suggestion: make sure the EDC pens can take a space pen cartridge and a wormwood notepad comes with it. Also suggest the pocket knives flick out like a switch
@@forge23 there are ways around it, as well as not having the sometimes dull task of opening it with both hands or hard to open with your thumb. Sorry to hear that though
As you can see, my young apprentice, your friends have failed. Now witness the power of this fully armed and operational work statio... what the.. ahhh crap.
@@Warhammered "Now get your 7'2" asthmatic ass back here or I'm gonna tell everyone what a whiny bitch you were about Padamame or Panda bear or whatever the hell her name is!"
For the record, my EDC consist of: Hairband, Wallet, Keys, Phone, Earphones, Lighter. Dont need anything else, dont need a bottle opener since I have a lighter and that serves just as well. Dont kneed a knife since boxes can usually be opened just with my fingernails or a key.
I can actually see a good use for the abacus tracker. Have 3 sets of 9 beads around a small area that’s rounded out. Use the beads to track HP (1’s 10’s and 100’s) and keep the dice needed for short rests on it. It could also be used to keep track of points on board games and keep meeples or other tokens on it as well.
As a bartender and DnD player, Bobbys idea about the Tavern Tile makes a lot of sense. The opener should be near the top just because of how you would hold the tile to open a bottle and the magnet part is just great cause you don't have to bend over and pick the cap.
I am impressed with all the stuff Bobby has. As far as the logo on the tables go, I don't care what method you have to use, I would be upset if my table comes without a logo, I don't care if it comes late. But I am probably in the minority with that preference.
I'm kind of with Doug and Ian in this case....they cant pretend they have infinite money for all this equipment. They've already purchased several pricy machines for MGT production. If they can find a branding solution that works well, thats something they can save on for now. A new Laser can wait until the company gets past the growing pains that table production is putting them through
Equipment cost, is just that, equipment cost. If you NEED a laser to finish your work to your specification, then you have two options. Either buy a laser and get it installed to have as a backup or to further your efficiency running in tandem OR buy replacement laser tubes for your current machine to rotate out if there is a fault or failure so you reduce down time. If you don't meet either of these criteria, then find out if the brand is a cost effective measure. Love you guys and everything you do. Keep pumping out good products and content!
I have a Bobby-level EDC, but some things that weren't mentioned include: meds, pepper spray, chapstick/lipstick, emergency dice, sunscreen, tiny sewing kit, tea bags, and gum/mints. I'd love a nice wooden business card case! Also, consider for people who use bags that these things may be tossed around a bit more than if they were carried in a pocket!
If you can be given reasonable expectations that a new laser will not just have the same problem as the last laser(s), then get a new laser. If they're just swapping it out and it's going to do the same thing in a month, do not get a new laser. I love that Bobby is like the office Mom. He's got everything you might need for any contingency. (Could add some snacks though, I'm just saying.) My EDC involves a large purse or tote, and includes: Phone, wallet (pretty big), pencil, black pen, green pen, sharpie, some kind of notebook, tide stick, umbrella, 1st aid kit, backup battery, backup bag inside my main bag for additional carry ability. Reminds me that I need to get a new flashlight... FELL BETTER BENNET!
When out and about my EDC (not including clothes) is: hair band, clip-on sunglasses if not wearing contact lenses/sunglasses if I am, wallet, phone, possibly my keychain if I am using my bicycle, maybe a hat. When going to uni my EDC contained a crap ton more because I would always carry almost all my school supplies with me in my backpack regardless of whether I had that class that day or not just to add more weight. My phone has a great flashlight and camera built in and can play lots of music if I bring my headphones that day.
You guys have a laser engraver in the prototyping lab. Just modify one of those so that a piece of wood can fit across it (cut the housing) and use that
2:56 Fuck, I feel for this man. He was about to say "Quartz normally sucks but not this one because.." Then you cut him off and make it seem like he's saying quartz rock in general and especially 1 tick per second is the best ever! What he was about to say "normal quartz is 1 tick per sec. Autos are 8 ticks per sec. This Bulova quartz is 16 ticks per sec so it's such an unusually cool Quartx"
My laser to branding questions: How long does it take to switch temp on the brand to change between woods? Does this bottleneck production over a programmable laser? How much would the bottleneck cost over 2 weeks of production? If we're looking at "cost of laser" in lost production in 1 fiscal quarter, then I'd say drop the cash and get the new rig.
Your points kind of valid but not quite for the reason you mentioned. Same principle different Branding is far quicker then laser's for logos in wood, for high speed branding the tempriture stays high and the time applied get modified depending on how deep and dark you want the brand. At very high temps the brand time may be as quick as 0.7 seconds with depth controlled by pneumatic pressure .... but Its downfall is you need a new branding plate for each design. A laser of the cost they are looking at should also be able to cut materials if needed, and be spatially accurate over the whole bed If used for marking or templating on special projects. The advantage of the lasers is found in every thing else other than there logo. For instance the cork for the coasters can be engraved, burnished, and cut out all on one machine and one lay out, where if branded they would need to be branded then punch cut. Both processes are quick but branding then cutting in this instance would require one more staff member yet it may actually be faster at very high volumes (e.g. 1100 coasters a hour).
@@shanewilson3653 i see your points on a branding machine/unit. From the videos, it sounded to me that it would just be "Crazy Ed with a hot metal stick" situation XD. I did learn that when branding wood, its not a "how hot" issue, but a "for how long" calculation.
3 things on my edc, a fish hook necklace I got to help carve while visiting Hawaii, an older green swiss-army knife back when you couldn't get an authentic one from outside Switzerland, and my Iron ring
Buy it now vs later. If you think you can contract the work out for cheaper, then do that, but I can't imagine it's long-run cheaper as they'll have the same burn-out problem and you'll be accelerating that. I imagine they'll want to be compensated for it. On top of that, you have to adjust your entire production process to do that. Seems like the smart money is on buy now. I can't imagine the alternative process you discussed is particularly efficient.
Make the metal part of bottle opener on the bottom of the tavern tile in the shape of the wyrmwood shield. Then have the tree on the background on the wooden part of the tile!
I'm with Jason on the laser discussion - better to buy now than to delay and squabble. *Caveat* - I would say some assurance/warranty that the laser isn't going to fizzle out again (that or if it does, replacement parts will be available in x timeframe).
A temporary solution would be opening up one of your speedy for a over sized part pass thru and then engraving the wood. The only problem is that it takes the laser from a class one exposure to a class 4 exposure.
Magnet under opener, that sounds a lot like my comment on the video when they first showed the tavern tile. Bobby is such a genius!. . . . Honestly though, I'm just glad they like the idea. It makes all the difference
My current EDC is the usual phone/keys/wallet, on my keychain I have a titanium tool that is a a 14mm hex/bottle opener/wedge, a Zero Tolerance 0095BW pocket knife, a zippo, pack of gum, water bottle, and a tactical pen. I keep it all in my special edition Infamous 2 carrier bag.
I hate to agree with someone who doesn't know how to read a d% properly but yeah, Jason is right; get the Trotec. I own a Trotec and I'm always pleased with the quality and service. FYI, you can get a much cleaner engraving than the samples shown in the video. One other point: if you get a powerful enough laser, it will do a lot more than just engrave for you.
Would it be feasible for the bottle opener to be in a shield shape? The one on there is already kinda flat on one side and rounded on the other and it would be super cool if you could evoke the wyrmwood logo in some way with the opener itself. I feel like a shield shape where the flat top of the shield is the shelf of the opener should be easy. I know that's maybe a bit harder to source or whatever, but don't you guys have a metal guy next door now? Couldn't hurt to do a fieldtrip over there to ask them about it, at the very least it's a fun wyrmwood segment.
Buy the laser cutter lmfao. I don’t understand why that is a question. Like don’t you still have a bunch problems to solve in terms of speeding up and ensuring consistency in production? Plus the laser cutter/cnc should be one of your first options for prototyping. Also, "the speedy" being referred to is a model name under the trotec brand. I don’t know how reasonable it is to regularly replace your laser tubes, but you should really have someone in house who can do maintenance with your scale. You’re doing high volume production, even extremely good quality equipment, the equipment is going to take a lot of wear and tear running as often as it does. Also, I really hope you’re working with a manufacturing engineer.
We bought a 1500watt fiber laser with 2 swappable 13’ tables for $240k. The laser module is an nLight. Has pure nitrogen, pure oxygen, and house air. It’s badass.
Buy the laser I agree with Jason. EDC Wallet Car Keys CRKT- Pilar pocket knife Space Pen Gerber-Dime lighter wrapped in electrical tape Phone Sig Sauer P365XL in a Tier 1 Tactical AIWB holster and spare magazine.
Assuming the laser is used for more than just engraving the logo? I.e. laser marquetry etc? If so, seems sensible to just get a more reliable one - I'd be more curious as to why your current one keeps failing. Diodes usually burn out faster either from cooling issues or from high reflectivity materials bouncing too much of the beam back. Buying a pricier machine doesn't seem a good solution if there's something about your set up that's causing issues. That said, we had a suspiciously cheap cutter/engraver that burnt out two tubes, turned out the flyback transformer was arcing, and the grounding wire was basically a breadboard jp lead so it kept overloading the tube.
At the prices they are talking, I'm sure they are using RF tubes. Those should last years in production use. I'd buy several smaller speedy's for that price.
I would think Bobby was going through my wife's bag if he pulled out a couple books instead of a roller kit. Also, I have one simple request. And that's a machine with fricken laser beams attached!
