The Last Day At Lakeside Mall **As Seen Through A Vintage Sony Handycam**. It was a bittersweet weekend in the Detroit area as I would be excited to see a bunch of my friends from various areas of the country including Kate, Jon Rev, Jack, and especially Anthony of Ace's Adventures. However, it was a sad day as after 48 years of being in business, Lakeside Mall closed its doors for the final time on Sunday, June 30, 2024. We all did photography and/or videos. This is my first of two from Lakeside on this day. I thought, to give the video a nostalgic vibe, I would use my 22 year old Sony DCR-TRV240 Handycam that uses Digital8 tapes. Enjoy a step back in time. The mall was so busy you wouldn't have thought it was the final day.

How depressing that this mall was once full of life packed with shoppers and every store open.😢 Thanks, Wallie! The Sony cam is a nice touch. I had one 20 years ago also. Aww the nostalgia...

Another Taubman mall gone.. sad.. his malls are so beautiful. Mall At Tuttle Crossing is a mall you need to visit sometime soon. It could close any day now. Also it was awesome to finally meet you 👊🏻.

I agree with you. It’s so sad to see these beautiful malls with aesthetically pleasing interiors and beautiful architecture indicative of the they were built. Love Taubman and DeBartolo designs. This year alone, there so many malls that passed. Me being nostalgic. Just so sad.

Really enjoyed this nostalgic vibe of this video using your vintage Sony video recorder. Really does feel vintage, like when the mall was thriving. This is the day most people who cherished the mall over the years came back to reminisce about the good old days. Great vid Wallie. Thanks for choosing to film it with the vintage video recorder. Love the nostalgia.

Absolutely gutted that Lakeside closed. I’ve spent a ton of time there with friends and it’s some of my favorite memories. Getting older is lame when stuff like this happens.

I,remember when Lakeside Mall opened on March 2,1976. I was working at Hudson's Eastland Mall Store in Harper Woods, (a suburb of Detroit).Lakeside Mall will be missed. At least J.C.PENNEY and MACY'S are still open, and will be around for redevelopment. They will be separate stores. After, when Lakeside Mall is Demolished, and Redevelopment begins, there will be Apartments, Restaurants, and Retail. And, maybe a City Park. They, will rename it Lakeside Town Center. 20:23

Lots of people taking a last look at the mall! Reminds me of Haywood Mall in Greenville, SC. Escalators placed the same and those wood and glass railings are almost identical.

thanks for this, Wallie. Lakeside was the mall closest to me and i’m still in shock that it is gone. i would’ve thought some other malls near here would’ve closed first, but it sucks how life works sometimes

This is very sad about Lakeside Mall, I used to go there a few times with my family when I was younger. But thank you for doing this video on the vintage camera. That sounds really good. I’m not sure how long you were in Michigan for, but thank you for taking us back to, our childhood memories some of us growing up in Michigan such as myself.

Hey Wallie, Great stuff. I've been using my Panasonic handheld from like 2001. It's amazing, I love it. How do you get your tapes digital? This uses VHS-C tapes.

Wallie, next time you’re traveling near/through Cleveland you need to stop in University Heights and check out University Square. It’s a big shopping center that’s almost empty. It’s right down the road from the Beachwood Mall. Currently all that remain are a Target and Macy’s. The Applebees in their just closed last month. While there aren’t any plans to close either of the remaining places, the entire center is set to go on a huge redevelopment in the coming years. Would be a cool place to document while it is still in its current state.

Buc-ees would do great there. There’s an empty mall less than five minutes from me. Old mall locations would be a great place to start. Buc-ees has plenty of prime locations to build. This may only be a dream? Who knows? They may be Wallie B fans!

Wow so sad all these malls are closing. I'm guessing a mixture of ordering on line so don't need brick and mortar or inflation😪 not sure which but it sad. Thanks for posting it

The internet isn't all it's cracked up to be. Online shopping, along with theft, put a lot of people out of work. The 2008 recession and C-19 didn't help either. But, change is a part of life, so it was probably inevitable that we would start seeing things like this happen. It's just a sad thing because people have so many memories of these malls. They were more than somewhere to shop.
