Saw them at the coliseum in Charlotte on this tour. Like others have said it was like seeing the Beatles or seeing Elvis. As a lifelong fan of Zepplin it was amazing. My dad was there with me. He’s gone now, but I still have the memories. Thanks dad and thanks Jose for the video.

Robert Plant didn’t care. He found revisiting Zeppelin to be boring. He agreed to do a tour - he wasn’t the bare chested 25 year old anymore. He wasn’t worried about a solo career. He did what he liked. Can’t wait for your Plant Krauss video

I remember reading that Page did everything he could to keep this duo going, but Plant would have none of it. He definitely forgot where he came from.

The fans did notice the stagnant setlist. Michael Lee was asked in Cleveland by a fan, while he out and about the town, if the band planned to change the set at all. He laughed and said he doubted it but that it wasn't up to him. There was a strange feeling to the tour, Jimmy and Robert were moving in different directions. They had talked about doing another Japan tour, but that's about as far as it got. After Paris it came to an end and Robert went back to make a solo albums and wander the UK as Priory of Brion. Jimmy eventually went to hire the Black Crowes to do another trip around the US. How Many More Times was the highlight for me in the 4 shows I saw. But it was over, the Unledded magic was gone. Good video.

Saw them in Kansas City on that tour. It was a great show. Jimmy was on fire during HMMT. You can tell though that Plant seemed to be just going through the motions. He seemed a lot more into the 1995 show I also saw at the Kemper with my bestie from college. The Clarksdale material sounded much better live. Thank you JCM for another great episode.

I caught this tour in Minneapolis, and it was the best I've ever seen Page. It was cool to hear the deep cuts and the show rocked so hard it felt like a train that was about to derail, but somehow managed to stay on the tracks. The concert was at the Target Center which is our Timberwolves basketball arena. One of our University of Minnesota sports teams was in the play-offs and Plant noticed the game was on in one of the suites. He sounded seriously annoyed as he said: "There are people watching TV at my gig?" To me, he didn't sound disengaged, and his anger just added to his performance. Four inebriated guys were in the row in front of my wife and I and one guy passed out before the show began. He ended up on the cement floor around his friends' feet and didn't wake up until the lights were back on and everyone was shuffling out. I wonder if this guy ever bragged about seeing Page and Plant in concert. Either the day of this show, or the day before (?) Plant dropped into The Uptown Bar which was a legendary live music dive bar here in Minneapolis. Jeff Buckley, Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Replacements, Husker Du, Babes in Toyland and hundreds of other indie bands played the Uptown over the years. The cool thing about the afternoon Plant walked in was that the staff and the bar flies recognized him but didn't bother him. They let him enjoy his pint without asking for autographs.

I got to see them on this tour in Washington DC and I remember that I was excited to see the whole thing stripped down, with the Zeppelin vibe. The only thing that ruined it was having to work the next day. Thanks for another great video.

I saw shows at the very beginning and end of that mammoth Page/Plant tour. Their 11th show in 1995 with the orchestra was great. When I saw them a second time in '98 they only had a few shows left before the long tour finally ended. By contrast I preferred P/P later on in '98 as a quartet. Unrestrained by an orchestra, they simply rocked harder. After their Unledded MTV special aired only once it went on sale as a dvd called No Quarter. An interviewer asked John Paul Jones at the time "What do you think of No Quarter?" and Jones said, "It's one of my best songs."

i would of preferred to see this show ‘down under’ than the ‘unledded’ version TBH but at least we got one✅top work again jose 💪🏼

Saw them at The Palace 98. They blazed. Lee was killer on the kit. Never got into Plants solo stuff. Zep was a time and a place

Page wanted more Plant wanted out . Not really fair IMO. Plant screwed Page and so did The Black Crows .... Page was the best thing for the Crows imagine a pissed off Jimmy driving around trying to find them esp one of the brothers he was livid .Love Plant but Jimmy Page is my music hero .... He was all about Zeppelin from day one and still is . Rock on Jimmy !!

Best concert I've ever seen. No frills like 1996 P/P....just raw, crisp rock from a 4 piece band comfortable with playing for several years. They killed it that night. Ernie

I was lucky enough to see them in Lyon, France, both in 1995 and 1998; still got the tickets, program, t-shirts and a nice P&P fleece that I still wear after… wow has it been 25 years already?!? Great shows, amazing solos from Jimmy; he was more charismatic in ‘98 than in ‘95, where Robert stole the show. After all these years, they are both still in the top 10 best concerts I ever attended. Thank for the walk down memory lane! And keep them coming.

I saw this tour in 98 in Chicago the day after the Bulls won the last championship game Dennis Rodman was there and had about 7 blondes with him and sat right under us and still in the clothes from the night before we got front row tickets while VIP Productions was handing out tickets to fill empty seats before the show started we were originally in nosebleed seats the seats were on the side of the stage over the tunnel where the Bulls ran out before games. It's something I'll never forget and the acoustic stuff was awesome it all was and they brought Dennis onstage for the encore and Jimmy came out in a Bulls Jersey

How crazy would it have been when MTV asked, if Robert had done unplugged by himself? A set where he did a few covers, with tracks from his solo albums, & a few Zep tunes mixed in? I really want to hear that version of "ship of fools"!

I love watching your weekly videos and drinking Busch light. Have been listening to some of Plant's solo music (Other Arms) during this time of strife

I saw them at the Alamodome in San Antonio in September of that year. The tickets were a birthday present from my best friend (also a huge Led Zeppelin fan), and he came with me and the girl who would become my ex-wife. There isn't a whole lot that really stands out from the show to me other than the excitement of me finally getting the closest I would ever get to seeing Led Zeppelin play live. The one big thing that did stand out was that the Zeppelin songs always got a strong reaction from the audience whereas the Walking into Clarksdale songs were met either with ambivalence or confusion. Still, though, it was a great show, and I'd probably give my right arm in order to go back and experience it again. Anways, great episode as always, and looking forward to JPJ finally getting his due in the next episode!

My high school buddy Nick and I took our dads to the show. The roar from the audience was non-stop. When they played 🎶 Tangerine 🎶, Nick turned to me screaming so he could be heard over the audience, "This song sucks, but this is still awesome!"

Jose have you read or listened to the Robert Plant doc “A Life” ? It’s incredible. I just finished listening to the audiobook found here on RU-vid and it blew my mind. They did introduce great versions of Babe I’m Gonna Leave You and Night Flight to the set when they played Glasgow on the ‘98 tour.

Such a good episode JCM, your inclusion of the interviews nails the colour's to the mast. I saw the Reading show, Jimmy gave it his all, his black boot polish short hair et al. Planty, went through the motions a bit, I think he struggled to get there on certain numbers, The Wanton Song always gave him problems. Back in the day Led Zeppelin was an extravagant show, the music was only part of it. As the interviewer asked is this a promotion? Plant took it personally as a dig. Plant and Page was good but little more than a tribute to what had gone before. Bands like Iron Maiden, turned their legacy into a business developing it to continue. Page and Plant went into a Cul de Sac. Robert acknowledged that. Without him Jimmy had nowhere to go, which was a shame. At least it gave him time to remaster some more cut tracks. This series gets better and better. Bravo JCM

Thanks for the video proof of how loud the audience was at MSG NYC. It felt like an actual Led Zeppelin show the way the crowd reacted. And the musicianship was excellent. Even the opening act with some lady tearing it up on an electric violin. Thanks for the memories!

Thank you JCM, I didn't know that they ever revisited the Whole Lotta Love Knebworth riff 22:00 time stamp. I recently got the Led Zeppelin DVD box set and was blown away from that particular rendition on disc 2. Great work as always but looking forward to you coming back to the mighty Zeppelin from the 70s.

In the press deal, while Robert stuck his head out the window and yelled, "Help!" There were a few seconds where the camera was right close to his face, and I swear I could have mistaken him for John Lydon because of his whip fckn sharp wit and controlled sarcasm.

How Many (more) Times have I said it?... thanks again, JCM! You've created a true masterpiece here. Provided an invaluable service, in my opinion. As I watched this episode, I felt a sense of sadness, for the realization that the Plant part of the Zeppelin legacy had pretty much reached its end. You mentioned you had more episodes to come, (Jones and Page with Foo Fighters being one), but to me, Plant is, has been, and always will be, so much the integral piece of the Zeppelin puzzle, (Page as well, of course. Bonham, and Jonesy, too); but without Robert, it's just not Led Zeppelin. I have to say, though, that between yours and Mark Zep's vast array of videos, I feel a sense of wholeness now. Like a great void has been filled. A sense that I've journeyed through the entire landscape of Led Zeppelin videos, sounds and footage, almost greater than any true fan of the band could ever hope to explore; and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing us, the RU-vid viewer/world, with something I will take with me for the rest of my life. You're an inspiration to us all, JCM; for you set out with a vision, and damn if you didn't achieve it! Jose Another great video - thanks for all your labor of love I saw the 98 Grand Rapids, Cleveland (saw the Dragon suit in the R&RHofF), Memphis and New Orleans shows. I missed Jimmy and Robert at the Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi by one day. Jimmy was playing much tighter than 95, bloated and hair dye. Uncontrollably sweating and drooling.Michael Lee (RIP) was explosive. Charlie Jones could no improvise. Wanton Song was a great opener. Plant looked and sounded fabulous. Those who complained that LZ should reunite had their chance to see this tour I liked 1998 much better than 1995 - it was mostly LZ numbers - should have not had an opening act

Before we heard that Plant had walked away from the project, there were plans for Page/Plant to tour Japan and release a live CD in Jan/Feb of the following year. I also remember an interview with Plant and he said the Amnesty concert was the final straw for him.

I should’ve photographed theMountain View Pavilion show instead of the Concord Pavilion show. I walked out of that show during “Babe I’m Gonna Leave you”. The truth of the matter was I heard my favorite song performed; “Tangerine” . I was 36 years old.

Hey, my good friend, thanks so much for another wonderful episode! ❤ your devotion and attention to detail are second to none. So here's a few interesting thoughts and memories, very keen to see what you think. Oh yes before I forget, the Come with me episode was super as well, which kinda leads me to one of my theories that contributed to the split in 98.......did Robert consider the use of Kashmir as the basis for Come with me to be very upsetting, especially with Jimmy openly endorsing it? We know that all of them consider Kashmir a significant milestone which it absolutely is; was it a step too far? Just a theory? Okay the other points, before I forget them! 1. I saw both Wembley arena gigs in 1998. The 2nd night was considerably better in terms of energy. The first night was great, don't get me wrong, but they were in safe mode.....I know you will understand this as a fellow guitarist; I would have nights when I was tired and not feeling great so I decided being adventurous would not be a good idea! 2. Jimmy's guitar tone was hugely better on this tour, much more than during Unledded. He was also consistently playing like a demon. Sounds like he was primarily using a Vox? 3. Most High was superb live. 4. I only found out recently that Michael Lee suffered with epilepsy and bearing in mind how fierce he was behind the kit, I wonder how on earth he managed to cope? A remarkable testament to his stamina and skill. 5. On the subject of his drumming I am so delighted you played the clip from the University College London gig because it captures the sound quality and energy perfectly, and the closing Rock and Roll has to be one of the best ever performances. Saw them at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA in 1998. Great show on the grass.

The unleaded tour would be like the 73 triumph and walking tour like the 75. Some amazing playing but a darker tour and strange energy

For me was a Great Record. Too bad it all stopped. Robert really is a person who will change direction and quickly. He is a tough sell. He never paired up with someone equal to Jimmy and no one talks about that. That is a huge piece of it.

I love that 79 Knebworth jam. This was ok but 79 .....Fantastic.

I caught the Atlanta show for this tour , and of course it was great - can’t really remember many details, but was very pleased to see them play No Quarter- which I don’t think was on the set list for the 95/96 tour (?) . But quick question for you Jose: Do you know or not if anyone from the Zeppeljn camp (members, family, business etc. ) have dialed into your videos, and/or mentioned anything about it ? Would be interesting to know, IMO.

Page should’ve gotten back together with Coverdale, JPJ & Jason Bonham. Page/Coverdale material was excellent imo. Black Crowes tour was cool @ the time. I’m sure Page made lots of money 💰

Band was tight, during this period I loved Jimmy's playing and his guitar sound textures, so creamy, three dimensional, nobody else had this sound..... Plant was solid, he doesn't mess about, his voice was on point even though at times he looked like he was going through the motions.....

I was at that Paris Amnesty International show. Didn't realise it was the last Page & Plant performance. The people I went with were there for Radiohead, and were pretty much oblivious to Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Shania Twain, and Page & Plant.

Someone's got to say it, Jimmy's saliva flow during this era is quite unpleasant at times.

Just put Jason on the drums and get (f)uckin(g) busy. I've seen Robert Plant twice solo. Saw That 98 tour in Indianapolis. Really good. Never saw the Firm or Coverdale-Page or Page with the Black Crows. Page will be 81 in February, I think. Plant 76, maybe? You don't have to do a 200 city world tour. Just do what you can stand physically. Every time they ask Plant, it's almost like he is embarrassed to have been in Zeppelin or something. I like his solo stuff and the Allison Krauss stuff, but it's nothing so great he can't put it aside and give people what they really want. A Zeppelin reunion. It made him rich beyond belief and yet he acts sometimes so weird about it.

I saw p&p in july-95 in Stockholm an outdoor concert with a crowd of about 10.000, sound was great very minimalistic lightrig but i remember Jimmy was the real star wearing a silk red shirt and very energetic.I was thinking whats he’s on? I think they played carouselambra and the Doors break on thru. People never wanted them to stop but Plant had to say..we really have to go now goodnight.

Plants problem is where he forgot where he came from and EGO ..and most importantly “His Friends” I love Zeppelin and my favorite bands of all times and Page is reason I have been playing guitar for 4+ decades but Plant definitely lost his way sadly.

This joint venture might have been a springboard for Jimmy to relaunch his solo career. If you look at SOME not all of the Concert T-Shirts from the tour with 🐦‍⬛ 🐦‍⬛, Jimmy and the tour dates are featured but no mention of the 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛. The breakup of Page & Plant might have been known even before the making of Walking Into Clarksdale, and the album might have been released because of a contract commitment back in '93-'94.

Even though the performances were more consistent during this tour, I can tell Plant wasn't as interested. The way he sang the Wanton Song in 98 compared to 95/96, makes it very clear he got his fill of the rockstar bullshit. That's not to say the new material (Heart In Your Hand is to die for) wasn't amazing, or the new version of HMMT wasn't mindblowing, but... the vibe was off.

22:24. I can see exactly what Robert is talking about when he calls himself a wedding singer. He's doing a great job of entertaining, but it's a routine. I don't blame him for not wanting to keep doing the "baby baby" routine. Imagine talking to your parents when they're 80 years old but you're trying to pretend you're still 15 and they're still in their 40s. Everybody's changed and moved on. But then someone pays you to act that way. So you give it a shot and ticket sales boom. You're now a wedding singer doing the routine. You're not that age anymore, but apparently few care who you are now. Just keep acting 15. That's the schtick. I'd also rather not act like I did as a teen or early 20's.

Led Zeppelin ended in 1973 with Houses of the Holy. Everything they did after that as a group or solo was of far inferior quality. Those first five albums were the greatest albums in rock history.

As far as Jimmy's fashion choices are concerned, I find that when you get older, you need to tone it down a bit, otherwise you will radiate pathetic vibes. I've always wanted a Flying V guitar but at my age, I feel it's a bit too flashy.

I've said it here previously, and I'll say it again: in '98, Jimmy was the best he's EVER been. Better than in '69. Better than in '70, '71 and '72. BETTER THAN IN '73, when he cemented his unassailable legacy as high priest of rock guitar. Better than in '75 and certainly than in '77 and '80. Jimmy Page peaked in '98. Think about that

Yes, thank you for detailing the overall weirdness of Page in this era. And yes, for at least a decade he somehow, unbelievably lost his cool, only to reclaim it later in life. It was more than the weight gain and muted colors. In virtually every interview/spot he seemed…more like a ADHD mute autistic child than a virtuosic, heroic, historically significant adult. Bizarre. It wasn’t C or H…but maybe something else. Whatever it was, glad he found his way back to love.

As soon as it became Page/ Plant without Jones and Jason I had no interest and it did sound very much like zep karaoke. I’m a huge Zeppelin fan and over the years it seems to me that Plant see’s zeppelin as Jimmy’s more than anyone else’s and I’m thinking that denying him a reunion gives his ego a boost. The timing of the O2 show propped up Plants profile before his duet with Alison Krause.

Jimmy definately looked better on the unledded tour. In 98 fat and shorthaired.

I really hope that Page does one more album with Coverdale. DC is the true voice for Jimmy’s music. Robert Plant is an overrated blowhard and always the weakest link in LZ
