Plants best solo album for me, I have it on vinyl and it’s so very special. Purchased it when it was released and played it consistently for weeks. So looking forward to watching this, thank you. ✌️

Fate of Nations is my favorite post Zep.album I was 14 yrs old when it came out. I remember how loud the album was at the time. I love the multi layers of guitars. I won Page & Plant tickets in 95 at Irvine meadow amphitheater from 97.1 KLSX. The question to win was who produced Fate of Nations. I knew that answer right away!
It was a loud album, you're right, Calling To You just comes screaming through the speakers you know? Absolutely. Thank you very much for watching, Episode #5 premieres tomorrow July 29th!
I just finished listening to the entire album. It just doesn’t grab me like the other solo records. I don’t know why. I have mad respect for him. He definitely came into his own on this record. Great documentary as always.
Right Kellie? I think not having the same band played a part. The good songs are Incredible...but the filler stuff just doesn't have the magic. I even like Shaken N Stirred more...and thats saying a lot!
Calling to you is a Monster track indeed. Maybe it should have been the album closer! It is an uneven experience no matter how critics to say otherwise!
Glad you liked it! hehe, i just thought, why not make a special tribute, an updated version of the "movie". Jason played really well that day, gotta love his chops! Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
That sounds like a soundtrack, man how did you manage not to get bored of the same highway? I always find that curious, driving long distances is a challenge for me!
Thank you very much for expressing your thoughts on my work. Have you listened to my music? Just curious to know what is the reference you have. Would be thrilled if you did! :)

It's a magnificent track. I wished it was on another album though, it's truly captivating. Quite the highlight of 1993. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
Yet another fantastic video! 1992 was the year I really discovered Led Zeppelin. I had just finished my sophomore year of high school and was taking a trip to Missouri to spend a few weeks there with a friend from school. The day before my flight, I went to a Target near my home to find something to listen to in my Walkman on the flight. I had previously considered picking up a Led Zeppelin album but had always held off for some reason, but the call of Led Zeppelin IV just couldn't be ignored. My first time listening through the album was a strange experience. I didn't get it at first, but at the same time the music had such a strong draw on me that I just couldn't stop. By the time I got to When the Levee Breaks on the first playthrough, though, I knew that there was definitely something special. Needless to say, by the end of that trip to Missouri, Led Zeppelin had become my new favorite band, a spot they would hold onto up to the present day. BTW, that cassette tape of Led Zeppelin IV last me for a long time, but I literally wore it out with the number of times I listened to it. Anyways, was really looking forward to this episode. Fate of Nations is my favorite RP solo album, although I definitely agree with what you said about the album lacking focus in comparison to his previous albums. I need to give it a good listen to again as I haven't listened to it through in many years, just to see if it's nostalgia or something else that really draws me to the album. BTW, I mentioned this as a reply to someone else's comment, but after I graduated high school I joined the US Marine Corps and was stationed in 29 Palms, CA. The local rock radio station played the song 29 Palms constantly.
Nice! so your first experience was Zeppelin IV, quite a dangerous place to begin as it has Stairway and Levee, quite hard to beat them hehe. Fate of Nations has GREAT songs, i have been listening to it over and over, but yes, it leaves you feeling weird with the filler material. I almost sense it has a strange spell but then you crank Coverdale Page and it's back to reality for some reason...Robert is a strange man lol. Thank you very much for watching! I was at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. 19 years old. Multi instrumentalist and Zeppelin/Queen obsessed. Plant did good. I was pretty near the front. Innuendo was fine except for V2 when he came in early. When he sang V1 of fucking KASHMIR, I almost fell over. It was worth the journey just for that.
I bet Verse 1 of Kashmir sounded massive, pretty sure you had to be there to EXPERIENCE it right? I think Plant' was nervous when he realized Innuendo was not for him you know? Interesting Queen never played that song again, despite Adam Lambert's vocal range quite capable of perfoming this number. You sir were a very lucky man to be there at age 19, JUST WOW. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993!
The Freddie Mercury Tribute concert was BIG. "Wayne's World" just came out, and Bohemian Rhapsody was exploding again. In the 6th grade, I was already ridiculed for being a big Zeppelin fan, but I was excited my hero Robert Plant was gonna stand on the same stage and stand tall among GnR and Metallica. But I remember Plant's performance to be an embarrassment. I was like, "Where the Hell is the guy from my VHS copy of "Song Remains the Same"?
I have no idea why you were ridiculed for being a zep fan. At that time, there was a big resurgence of all things, Zep, so that makes no sense. Maybe you just had a group of clueless, douchbag friends or people surrounding you. Also, you were just a kid. I have a son who is starting 6th grade this year, so you were only 11-12. Kids that age aren't really musically inclined at that point. They only like what's popular on the radio, TV or streaming nowadays
I was in high school when the Freddie Mercury concert came out. I looked forward to Robert Plant. All my friends were Zep fans. I'm also shocked to hear you were made fun of for that. In my school, north of Seattle, it was a sign you were cool. That and liking Black Sabbath. Personally, I think they were just making fun of you, cause that's what kids did.
Thank you very much for watching Jeremy! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993! A year of much Page/Plant activity. So much to cover....and Coverdale :)
Thank you Tim for watching first of all. Albums are our own personal stories, i bet Fate of Nations is one of your soundtracks! I heard the demos for the album, some i like more than the final version!
@@saurondp back in the 80’s 29 Stumps was a ghost town, a K-Mart, a bowling alley, tattoo shops and dive bars…life didn’t exist until you got to Palm Springs. As PFC’s we didn’t own cars so walking or taking a bus was our only transportation.
I have a feeling, that Robert always had a very experimental side in his music (Unledded Sessions, ITTOD, his solo stuff.) He was always searching for new ways and I think his contribution was always a bit overshadowed by his LZ bandmates. Thank You for going deep into the topic. Great video Sir!
Robert was soul searching, absolutely. His best albums though, where made as a BAND unit. When Plant has musical allies that contribute in a collective and consistent spirit, magic happens :) Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode 5 Premieres July 29th.
The Rod Stewart track! yeah, it has a great feel to it. I like some of Rod's work, i mean...SOME. We are lucky that lineup got together hehe. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
Robert poured his heart into Fate of Nations, it seems. Page may not have put as much effort into Coverdale/Page, but the effort was a different experience. Meanwhile, JPJ was sprinkling magic dust on all sorts of excellent efforts. I had no idea about some of his work at that time. This episode was a treasure of behind the scenes, for certain. Thanks again!
I love your documentaries are so informative. I'm falling in love with post- LED Zeppelin again with the 80s. Now I'm reliving the 90s post LED Zeppelin. I was into Soundgarden, Nirvana and Pearl Jam,STP and Hole.
So glad you are feeling the Post Zepp vibes. Revisiting and researching the material has also been a blast for me personally. I remember the band It Bites from the mid 80's. They had a hit in the UK with, 'Calling all the Heroes ". They faded away after that. Fate of Nations is a cracking album. Another great video. 👍
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I didn't realise at the time, he was playing in Roberts band. I found out through your video. Like you mentioned in the video, It Bites simply disappeared. They did a gig at a venue where I live, it was around the time Calling all the Heroes was in the British charts. I didn't get to see them, as I was deemed too young, (around 14 ) at the time.
Wow, I've never really seen much footage or interviews from this time period. I do own and still enjoy "Fate Of Nations". Great research JCM once again.
Glad you enjoyed the "lost footage". Fate of Nations has great tracks in there, a friend of mine gave me Plant's Nine Lives box set years ago :) Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993!
It makes sense that the band Heart plays a lot of Zepellin covers, when you look at their song 'Barracuda' contemplate that it is virtually Immigrant Song (maybe Achilles' last maybe also) with exchanged vocals ;)
Spot on. Barracuda lives in the same avenue of those two Zepo numbers. Heart was heavily influenced. No question! Thank you very much for watching. Stay tuned for Episode 5 premieres July 29th!
Ohh Jose! (yeah, oh Jose, not “oh Jimmy”) 😂 watching it right now and feeling my cheeks and ears red with embarrassment and a sense of guilt… ☺️ I confess that I wasn't very interested in Plant's solo career even though I love him very much. I watched some videos of his concerts or when they talked about him but I didn't listen to his solo albums. After all, I was a child and then adolescence came, other interests, other ideas, millions of plans... the only thing that always remained untouched in my heart was my absolute love for Led Zeppelin, that is, Jimmy, Jones, Bonham and Plant playing and singing together. I know that my dad (always him...) has a lot of stuff from the guys in post Zeppelin times so when he comes back to Japan I'll visit him and we'll have a long talk about Plant. When I watched the previous episode, Page/Coverdale, I remembered the comments about Plant being very jealous…so grateful for your great research, production and presentation, dear Jose. Thanks for reminding me that Robert Plant’s career didn’t end with the end of Zeppelin. Take care, I'm waiting for the next episode, see ya 😊
Oh Marcia! hehe Thank you very much for watching! I know the embarrasment you mention, it can feel like that for sure. I wondered what the guys from Queen really felt like you know? Revisting Plant's solo career has been a challenge. Like you, i wasn't really into his stuff past Principle of Moments. This has been an exercise in appreciation and objectivity. I admire him of course, other part of his personality and actions i don't. The more i look at his solo career, the more i understand the importance of John Bonham in keeping his singer friend in CHECK. Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993

Until recently I never heard Fate of Nations and I am impressed with the album so far. I ignored the album for years because I was distracted with buying the KISS Katalog on CD.
WOW!!!! Awesome episode!!!!! Good album. Love the Bonzo tribute with the funny cars. We’ll done Jose. I will become a dedicated patron soon I promise. ❤.
Right on Matt! Thank you for watching, glad you dug the funny cars, i just thought i gotta do a small tribute to TSRTS hehe. I will be happy to have you on the Patreon board of directors for sure :)
Michael Lee was in UK rock band Little Angels originally. I seen them live at the Glasgow Barrowlands and it was a great show. "do you wanna riot" was a banger.
I didn't know this, thanks so much for sharing this bit of information. His live playing with the CULT i loved watching the recordings! I bet he was loud when you saw him?
So cool you like that song too, i can't stop listening to it. It hit me much more deep than Calling To You imagine, and THAT one is a great Zeppelin continuation. Ramiro que alegre saber que disfrutaste este episodio. Ha sido un reto editar todo este material, especialmente de estos "años" perdidos de la historia! Espero que estés muy bien!
I went to a secret Fate of Nations Pub gig in Fulham, to say it was a departure from a Rock band I would say was at odds to the live gigs which were definitely rock and band.🎉

Correction: It was Francis Dunnery’s older brother Baz Dunnery who played in the original but failed incarnation of Ozzy Osborne’s Blizzard of Oz, not Francis himself who at that time was too young. Baz was his guitar hero.
Indeed. Francis Dunnery even did a great album called "Frankenstein Monster" that had new versions of songs of Necromandus, Baz Dunnery's band from the 70's.
WOOOOOOOW. Buddddy! I have that Van Halen Zep jam on VHS. Of course its now on youtube, but ive watched that over and over. Eddie is my favorite, obviously.
I love how Eddie plays around with the material, a killer musician. I don't think Van Halen's cover band was a bad thing, they really elevated the songs they performed. Dazed and Confused's s guitar solo is rarely nailed the way Eddie did it, cover bands usually suffer here hehe. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993!
Nice man, thanks again for your hard work. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that if I ever heard anything from Fate of Nations before today, I don't recall it at all. I think I had tuned out any Zep related stuff at that point, and was busy with all the crazy stuff that was popping outta the music world in those days. Pretty cool to have you guiding us thru a quick needle drop tho. The addition of the McDonalds drag racer during Jason's Moby Dick was pretty funny! Looking forward to the battle of the bands in the next episode!
These quick needle drops are sometimes hard because i aim at dissecting pieces in short phrases or lines, hopefully it's a good summary of the material. Glad you enjoyed the Drag Racer during Jason's solo heheheh, that had me rolling on the floor as i thought "these is FOR FANS only" :) Thank you very much for watching! @@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Actually, t took me about an hour and a half to get thru this video because I kept stopping to listen to whatever tune you were talking about....not the first time I've done that either with your vids. It's good....makes me listen to the records with a different perspective, although I'm pretty sure this is the very first record made by a Zep member that I had never heard. Also, thanks for taking the time to write back....you get a LOT of messages and it must take up a lot of your time. Staying tuned for the next episode!
Every message i take my time to answer. I thank you for being here from the start Glad you listened to the songs, it adds up to the storyline. Because studio Robert Plant is heavily copyrighted i decided not to put snippets in. But still it's better to enjoy the songs separate.

I think Manic Nirvana was great, and the subsequent tour was fucking INSANE, but the record itself is hindered by the very late 80s, early 90s style production. I often wonder how good it would have sounded if Plant had recorded Manic Nirvana the same way he did Fate of Nations.
Es cierto, ocupados y pendientes de muchas cosas. Es interesante observar que la narrativa no es como la han contado anteriormente, "una reunion por aquí" y listo hehe. Muchas gracias por sintonizar Christian! Espero disfrutes el Episodio 5!
"Fate of Nations" and "Coverdale Page" aren't really a fair comparison because Jimmy was working with David as a duo and Plant was assembling a band. "Coverdale Page" sister album is really "Walking into Clarksdale" because you can hear how Jimmy has to downgrade is playing for Robert to find space. The closest thing from Jimmy's catalog for Fate of Nations would be "Live at the Greek"; that is also an example of one artist molding a band to fit his style.
I disagree Walking into Clarksdale is sister to Coverdale Page, it can't be with Michael Lee and Charlie Jones on drums/bass. Now what i will give you is that they both were horribly mixed hahahaha. Live at the Greek was Jimmy's finest Post Led Zeppelin performance as it captured the essence of his studio works!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories It was appropriate. Jonesy expressed how he felt, but the political side of answering the question.. I took it as Jimmy agreeing, actually. He's not a stone. This was in response to a journalist's question. You know how thorny the relationship always was with the press. Robert could be clever and fence off advances better than the other guys, but he lost/gave up his cool, and just slapped the sword away. It was a 'stay out of our business, meddler' moment. And you know, you gotta do that. I don't like psychoanalazying the guys at this date. Jimmy was probably fencing off the advance, too. This is what we call 'the weeds' of the subject.
I never imagined someone could have a PHD in Led Zeppelin but is a great thing. I mainly remember them as a band you played mostly in a basement when I was a teenager in the 70's. High volume on a integrated stereo while consuming many different mind altering substances.
Here we are man, all the ZEPP fans gathered to revisit their history and celebrate their legacy, during and after Zeppelin's existence. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993!
I need to revisit this album. Barry Dunnery offered Ozzy gig/brother of Francis. Everytime I listen to an early Plant solo album I like it more. I skipped over alot of them.
Early Plant was the best, he had a vulnerable attitude, not wanting to play the rockstar game...then that went out the window of course. His actions and not his words is what we need to look at. I have some theories on his behavior...Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories - I understand what you mean by the earnest comment. I never really enjoyed stuff like Big Love or Tall Cool One. I think Plant was best when he got weird, like Stranger Here Than Over There or Sixes and Sevens. I enjoy when he plays kick ass rock, but the peacocking thing he did when he got back into that "king of cock rock" persona never jived with me. Mighty Rearranger is where I think it all coalesces nicely. Fate Of Nations was a watershed moment as far as creativity (like the Rainer Ptacek material) but Mighty Rearranger took what Plant was attempting with Network News and blew it wide open.
"Few of you know" (quote) that in 1993 Robert was hosted by a priest in a TV show in Rimini, Italy. He played "29 palms", "I believe" ("io credo", Robert translated on stage, and the priest liked that), and unplugged versions of "whole lotta love" and "stairway". I was there ❤
I've seen the show, is this the same show where Plant asked the host how much for his wife? Robert can be silly sometimes...Thank you for watching! Stay tuned for Episode 5 premieres July 29th!
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories At the time it came out (im 53) my friends and I assumed he was "calling" to Jimmy but it also could have been "Oh Jimmy what the hell are you doing with David Coverdale?" 🤣
Great video as ALWAYS. I was a huge manic Nirvana fan. It was my taste at the time. I loved that Plant started referencing his time in zep as in big love. He did it on now and zen with "tall cool one" via music but now he was singing about it. Kind of. My first concert was that manic nirvana tour in albany and I was so into it(and so was the crowd) because he did a lot of zep songs. Coverdale/Page was also great because I knew what Page was doing and it worked. How to get the band back together? Team up with the one guy Plant could not stand Jimmy to be with lol.The biggest thing at the time back then, before grunge hit was , would zep get back together in some form? It took a couple more years and was not zep but it was close enough. You could feel it coming. When Fate of nations released I bought it first day and was not thrilled. It took many listens and to this day its my favorite release of Plants.
The only issue with Plant referencing Zepp in Big Love and such, was that he was coming back to what he wanted to move away from? And with it, came the persona, the rockstar bravado and larger than life mood vibe hehe. The more you look into the Page/Plant reunion, the reasons become apparent. I don't think Robert ever felt comfortable with being a cult status artist in the 80s, he wanted big bucks it seems...but he was no McCartney, never was, even Bonzo knew. Interesting Fate of Nations took a while to grow on you. A friend of mine gave me Plant's Nine Lives as a gift and trust me, i've tried over the years to LIKE the whole album, i just can't. Even Shaken and Stirred is more fun i guess, back when Robert was just an "average dude" away from the 70s Golden God thing. Thank you for sharing such a well crafted comment. Re 29 Palms. Plant was dating his opening act..Now And Zen tour..Allison Myles..she lived in 29 Palms and she berated him about singing Zep tunes on his current tour..I saw this tour in Oakland front row..his Zep numbers seemed "pushed"..After Immigrant Song..obvious backing tracks..I looked at him and shook my head...he looked at me and shrugged his shoulders..but have to say Doug Boyle was great..altogether a fantastic show
When you say obvious backing tracks, you mean pre-recorded guides? I heard Immigrant Songs from the 1990 Tour and the only thing i noticed was the keyboards adding a secondary melody line on the intro to help out Robert. I didn't go into the Alannah Myles story because it has not been 100% acknowledged by Plant other than we "were good friends". Funny enough, she has a sort of Maureen Plant vibe to her, it's all patterns with us humans, patterns and childhood moments.
Love what you’ve been doing. I might have missed it, but are you planning on covering the John Paul Jones and Diamanda Galas album The Sporting Life and tour(I saw it at The Fillmore. Amazing), some of his most vital and essential post Zeppelin work, which made me very happy they had lost his phone number. Lol
CultVult i am planning on covering Jones/Galas, i REALLY like the album. Diamanda alone is a fascinating artist, can't state that enough. Hahahahah love the lost phone number, may i use that line for the script? It's great. The only problem with The Sporting Life is little recording info, it was done in 1994 but we are not sure WHEN! Hello, my friend. Another video well done. Do you ever take time off or is this passion not considered work? Great content in this video, as your videos always have an abundance of. Being a wanna be drummer, and having a number of very close friends who are well known drummers, I especially liked the clips of Tommy Aldridge, Michael Lee, Jason Bonham, etc.... I had forgotten that Richie Hayward played with Percy. His daughter Rachel and I worked together at SRI back in the early 1990s and she and I share a birthday which is coming up this month on the 29th. Always thank you for your hard work even though it is from love that you get your drive it's still hard work and a lot of hours to create conceive produce and present to the public such quality work.
Hey man, first off thank you very much for watching. This is my job at the moment, i went full into the RU-vid business. It's been almost a year (August 2022) since my first Zeppelin episode and i am grateful at how the channel has grown through word of mouth and the algorhythm hitting the Zeppelin fans that want to enjoy these trips! Richie Hayward's time with Plant was great, his chops elevated the material. You worked with his daughter? That's awesome. I appreciate your kind words, i won't lie to, it takes days and long hours to make these. @@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories --- Thank You for your reply. You have taken a leap of faith by doing this RU-vid thing full-time. It can be lucrative if you work hard and be careful to only draw between the lines of their very vaguely written Community Guidelines which are open for interpretation to benefit themselves. I know first hand about YT and their ways of shutting a channel down that they had first removed, then let back but with age restriction (there was no adult content. It showed less than bikini models show on millions of YT channels. I also know firsthand about leaving a steady, well paying union job to start working for myself, no real plan, just my tools and experience. I ended up broke and living in my car and motels rather than give up. It eventually paid off. I have sent you a little help a few months ago, but being that over half of my business is in the film and television business, I've had very little work and God only knows how long it will be this way because of the strikes that are taking place. Back to better things. Yes, while working and becoming friends outside of work with Richie's daughter, I got to meet him a couple of times, briefly. I've seen Little Feat play live also. Richie is an under appreciated drummer in the eyes of the public and some of the critics haven't given him the recognition he should be for the contributions he has given to so many great songs and albums with so many well known acts. He should be a household name when people think solid drummers. But drummers and base players are just background and replaceable pawns to a lot of people. Musicians are a dime a dozen, even excellent musicians. Talent doesn't always get you employed, unfortunately, and it certainly doesn't guarantee fame and riches. Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you for your detailed comment. You are definitely a brave man. I hope the strike doesn"t go for too long. I read some of the reasons for it and its definitely a very complicated situation. AI is a turning point for humanity. I am aware of the risks of full time video production but as an artist i feel i have to do this now, later i believe i won't have the same force nor motivation. Just came back from a late night blues jam, we had a blast, i reconnected with music after a couple of weeks on a strange sad note. I wish you the best in your situation and i really thank you for your donation, you can imagine it means A LOT. Dreams alive and maximum courage, we shall overcome! :)
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories ---- thanks. Life has a way of working itself out. You have to believe in yourself and what you are willing to sacrifice to get where you want to be. You cannot give up. I love what I do for work. I had to walk away from it after the first ten years and try some other things before I realized that I like what I do, I'm good at it and I can make a decent living working and a great living working for myself. The strikes are complicated. They always are. When I was still working in the electricians union we went on strike one year for about 6 weeks and came close a couple other times. It is part of being in a union. Every couple of years negotiations come around and talks happen. I don't see an agreement happening until October or so, then we have to wait for scripts to be written, then we have four days off for Thanksgiving and then two weeks off for Christmas, so it could be until after the new year before production starts up in full swing. Hopefully not but completely possible. Take care of yourself, don't forget to get some sleep. There aren't enough hours in a day or days in a week when we are passionate about something.
Robert Plant, & Jimmy Page, always had a rockabilly background in their early days skillful etc.. so Robert Plant knew what he was doing taking on a cover Crazy Little Thing Called Love for the late Freddie Mercury, tribute.. another great cover from plant , if I were a Carpenter was also great, just an opinion
Yes. That Queen number was a song he felt really comfortable with. I think he could have picked a different song instead of Innuendo. Thank you very much for watching.
Memory song lyrics: "prince of cool are you lost without a crew?" and "you are my friend, you are my friend, you touch my soul!" I wonder who that was directed at?
I have second thoughts on this one, for all of Plant's bashing of Led Zeppelin, yes it may be directed at Jimmy but then, why bother Robert? You didn't want a Reunion in 1991...Percy can be an interesting character, almost as if he enjoys Page being Cast Away. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I'm not sure he was being mean to Jimmy. After all he says "you are my friend, you touch my soul". Hard to tell, Robert is capricious.
So no in depth analysis of Memory Song? It's the one time, JCM, you let me down. I've loved every second from every video and was hoping you would talk about "Prince of Cool, are you lost without the crew" and the 'OH Jimmy" at the end etc.
I was going to but...looking at the lyrics i thought it would remain a subjective analysis. I know there's definitely a message there but, since Robert hated Led Zeppelin back then i guess i felt it was a contradiction by him. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the video :)
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I took it as his most honest plea (to that point) that he did indeed still love Jimmy and though he hated the Coverdale Page relationship he still thought the world of his former guitarist. His "Oh Jimmy" spoke volumes with the emotion his expressed in it. I find it one of the most fascinating post Zep moments before they came back together.
The "Oh Jimmy" at the end of Calling to You btw. But the lyrics in Memory Song are pointed at the one and only Jimmy. Very sweet and loving sometimes, other times...
Fantastic as always JCM. I sent you an email a few days ago. I never got into Manic Nirvana or Fate of Nations believe it or not. Both records were hit and miss for me. I was getting into STP, Faith No More, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains around this time. It's weird because just a few years before I was so into Now and Zen and I saw that tour and the one in 1990. From memory, I was listening to the Remasters a lot and the Coverdale/Page album. I totally forgot about the John Bonham tribute in 1992. Jason Bonham was on fire here. I love his drumming from the Bonham band era through the late 1990's. He was aggressive. Daniel McMaster was actually better than Jason's second singer, Chaz West. He was over the top even more so, to the point that I found him annoying. He did more screaming than anything and totally missed the point of the subtleties in Plant's approach to Zep music. I say this because Jason did some shows with him and guitarist Tony Catania where they played nothing but Zep. I think he was on the album "In the name of my father" Hit me up when you get a chance
I know what you mean about Chas West yeah, i saw the gigs and it's weird hehe. In The Name of My Father was a solid album, i listen to it just for JASON really. Not dissing the others but Jason is the only one who sounds like he's enjoying it. I saw your email, will responde soon :) Thank you very much for watching! Okay, this is a late comment. Page/Coverdale sounded great, and it's in line when sonic quality started taking over from songwriting. I mean, as a child, sonic quality was growing up in the 70's, and we were entranced, but the 80's? I fukn hated the 80's. This was probably your teen years, JCM, so you had an abundance of love in your heart. Oh, cruel time..
No my teen years, i actually really discovered this in my early 20s and i am a progressive rock fan...trust me, getting into hard rock like C/P is never easy. The thing is C/P has such iconic guitar work, i can't shut my ears to that. It's very well executed, dangerously good.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories You're a Gen Xer, not a millennial. I'm a songwriter first, a guitarist second, so.. Coverdale never won me over in any band. Ian Gillan wasn't a poet (or was he?), but his tender soul touched me, the way Robert's did. When Ritchie and him divorced a part of me died. Well, a lot of me died around 1980. I had to be born again. It wasn't the last time. I'm a harsh critic, as you noticed. Give me old Sabbath, Purple, Nugent, Aerosmith and I'm good as long as we're strolling down 'mammary lane'. Rainbow? Mixed feelings, bro. Dio was no child, and it was too formula. Good riffs, good composition, but didn't touch my soul. We had souls in the 70's. Prog rock? We can talk more later.
Don't apologize Jose, you are being honest. Keeping people on a pedestal does not do anything to help them. If a performance is bad, then you should be able to say it was bad. Fans sometimes behave as if their heroes can do no wrong, that's patently untrue. Miss-steps and half ass attempts should be noted for what they are. The money has just gotten out of hand! I'm from the generation of concert goers that could pick up a ticket to any show for under $20, those days are long gone. The effort you have to make just to get to the venue, PAY FOR PARKING (expect to spend $50 at certain venues) buy a shirt+ ticket cost, and you're looking at well over $150 just to see a show! Those things matter, when you are talking about a product who's better days are (unfortunately) long behind them. Zeppelin fans can be rabid, but they should also be older and wiser by now. I love when you point out the mistakes and poor attempts! When they can hit the ground running and make it work, that make it that much better! Great job Jose!
L.L first off thank you for your detailed comment. I've had many people on the comment section tell me i didn't talk about the Oh Jimmy line in Memory Song, as if Robert was trying to send him a message. Because Plant had the love and hate relationship with Zeppelin i felt it was not enough to dissect for THIS episode. You are absolutely right on the $150 expense to watch a show. I criticize some of my local musician colleagues for jacking up concert prices based on "inflation", i get it yes, but the "experience" for the customer remains the same with crappy bar seating, parking and restaurant service. Sometimes musicians forget the Audience IS HUMAN. I enjoy analyzing Post Zepp works as objective as a i can, Fate of Nations has GREAT songs, but the forgettable ones are just...a big WTF question. I plan to make a throwdon of Coverdale Page vs. Fate of Nations next, still thinking of the evaluation bullet points. I think you know which one is the winner for me! My dad played the hell out of this cd when it came out, I was 13-14 and already a big Zep head thanks to him. But I was not into that album lol. And in the band was a “I just died in your arms tonight guy” come on man. But it did grow on me, love Calling To You (even Page would play that live w Plant). And Robert’s live band were all great Lee/Jones/Dunnery/MacMichael/ Edit: and Johnstone
Kevin was an incredible musician. Glad the material grew on you eventually! Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993!
Could never understand why RP wrote song about a place known as 29 Stumps (or “the stumps) to all who spent time there…there are no Palms in 29 Palms, just desolate desert.
The more i look into the psychology of Robert Plant...the more sinister it seems you know? I hope i am not correct in some of the things that come to my mind!
That's it Iki, i know, "kinda of liking it" it's a good way of putting it. The good parts are great, the bad parts are forgettable. A shame really. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
Dude I went through every one of your videos and gave them a like EVERY single one! WTF ?not even a reply to my comment? Did i piss you off or something?
Another great video. Principle of moments, now and zen and fate of nations is third for me. It’s the best sounding album sonically but I think it’s a bit too long running time wise
Principle of Moments is my favorite :) Absolutely. Yeah Fate of Nations could have been better chopping a song or two out. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
Fate is my fave Plant solo album. Yet, I always have felt its a bit unfocused. I was a bit disappointed when I bought it when it came out as I thought there would be more like Calling To You, but nope. It feels like its its going in a couple directions, not quite knowing what it wants to be. As you say, Manic Nirvana is more consistent. Agreed. I've always seen it (in hindsight) as a transition album. What came next for Plant - in light of this and the Page reunion with the world musicians - made tremendous sense. I feel like this is him shaking off his rock roots to clear the slate and go somewhere new. At the same time its the culmination of his solo career while reaching back to Zep. Its an interesting and over-looked album, but has some great stuff. Maybe with some of those bonus tracks it would have had a better life.
Thank you Jose, I got this album but never gave it any thought really. For me this record is just "elderly stateman giving a lecture" type of music. Plant was less and less relevant. He wasn't headliner anymore.
I don't feel Robert was sincere here you know? Other than the great song for his son, the rest sounds strange. His 1993 Interviews are a struggle to watch.
I absolutely love that track, his phrasing and style, man Doug was a beast, but yeah, didn't fit with Plant once he started getting into world music. Boyle is a virtuoso, no question. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
🌠JCM ! Duuude ! u ALWAYS make Amazing Video's...I couldn't watch the premiere..but just watched it now..I've met Francis Dunnery & Randy Jackson..both nice guys..I didn't forget sending u $ ..I'm gonna see if my friends wife know's how 2 use pay pal..hope things r good in general...
You met Francis Dunnery and Randy Jackson! NO WAY man! Thank you so much Greg, always supporting the channel, i appreciate it very much! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993!
Tommy Aldrich is a great drummer, who is featured on quite a few albums I love, but all these guys sound like they are playing on Hello Kitty kits trying to sound like bonham.....he had thunder in his hands...not because he beat the chit out of the drums....he just hit them properly & the thunder came along naturally And i really liked that 3rd track "change of the season" of the 2nd Bonham album....im 99% sure that was the single they played on US radio
I like the way this one started. Jeff & Jimmy, friends since childhood. RIP Jeff Beck, in my book England's 2 best Guitarist, after Jimmy. There, that ought to start something. Always does when I say it. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹 I saw the poster at that music convention on the wall, V1/2+. Everyone knows that is 'code' for Led Zeppelin live at Seattle 7-17-73. Hahaha. The following night, 7-18-73 Vancouver, Robert was dosed backstage with LSD by someone,(supposedly in a cup of cappuccino)and after STH ended at 1hr:25min the concert was stopped, and the MC announced he was being rushed to the hospital, asking that fans wait a few before leaving so they could have a clear shot of heading out of there. Too much.
Jeff Beck is the man, far better than Jimmy! Have you heard of Ritchie Blackmore of deep Purple, Steve Howe of yes, Mark Knopfler or Rory Gallagher to name a few? All of them far better than page, especially live. But to each his own…Cheers.
@Stargazer-px7fw yeah, heard and seen them all live. Rory was damn good, Jeff was good but he never did anything for me, boring after about 30 min., the rest you mention were hacks and really couldn't do live what they did in the studio, especially Howe. Knopfler? What a joke. But.......to each his own. I didn't go to 176 LZ concerts to hear what Page did on albums, but to hear his improvs that were different each show. Just one of the many reasons Page ruled the roost in that Era. 55 yr. Guitar player here. Want to talk about modern day Guitarists? Marty Friedman blows them all away, including Page. Now go debate it with someone else. My Les Paul is calling me back home. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹
@@williamhiles7404 LOL: You really wrote Beck was boring, Blackmore & Howe couldn’t do it live and latest was a hack and Knopfler’s a joke? But the sloppiest guitarist on stage is your number one? And you play guitar? Well, at least I agree with you on Friedman! Keep rockin‘!
You deleted my response to the knopfler whiner, huh? Later. No more watch, like or subscribe. People that weren't there to see Zeppelin live like I did.... don't know Bo Diddley anyway. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 1992. Inductees - The Yardbirds. I love Jeff's speech, so Jazz Fusion of him. Thank you for Watching, stay tuned for Episode 5!
Fate very good. Not one I get tired of - a lot of twists and turns. At the same time not one I come back to much in terms of listening all the way through. Maybe just it was the CD era - 70 or 80 minutes fatigued even the most diehard fans. And I will go now to check it out again but the sequencing of it kind of drags?
The CD Fatigue thing was real, Genesis' We Can't Dance suffers from this very same thing. Artists felt they had to fill the new technology, i can understand it but the listener paid the price...literally.
As for the meaning behind "Fate of Nations", I think it's supposed to be a play on words or a pun of "Favored Nations" clauses found in contracts like recording contracts. Also this theme that we're destined for doom that was popular during the Gulf Wars with songs like Robert Plant's song "Network News" and the Coverdale Page song "Whisper a Prayer For the Dying".
War themes continue also with a song like "29 Palms" which is the name of a US military base used for Desert War exercises. The song "If I were a Carpenter" could loosely be interpreted as a love song from Jesus to Mary Magdalene. Also like a song about a soldier going off to War dreaming of what life might be if not for these unseeing bonds of social responsibility.
You have very interesting perspectives on these songs. I thank you for sharing your thoughts here as it makes for a dynamic conversation as a collective energy. The problem with Fate of Nations is that if Plant had all these "hidden meanings" what was he fearing? Criticism over Social commentary? Wasn't he a hippie back in the 60s holding a Legalize Pot sign? I deeply respect Social commentary but the things he was "aiming at" could be identified. Now the problem with this concept you mention is songs like I Believe nor the Greatest Gift fit the record at all. I understand you like the album, but let's look at it with an outsider pespective too. Thank you very much for watching, stay tuned for Episode 5!
"Calling to You" could also be interpreted as another War song. "Out in the blue now, just waiting to feed, A little breath of selflessness adrift in all the greed"... "Long before the mountains cry for Adam and Eve, oh, All the world we knew was fire and still was the seed".
"Adam and Eve"... War has existed before time began, but fight to protect the seed. Plant's not really pro-War, but "Calling to You" is about being seduced into War.
Hahah yeah, even Crazy Little Thing sounds a bit winged right? Innuendo was such a disaster, poor Queen fans, bet they hated us Zeppelin fans that day! Hope you enjoy the rest of the Zeppelin Saga of the 90s here at JCM LED ZEPPELIN STORIES!
This album was where Plant’s music got less interesting, for me, at least. I liked Manic Nirvana a lot. As well as Now and Zen… but yeah this one… I bought it on CD when it came out it, but always had a hard time getting through it. 29 Palms is good though. Like Big Log - Part 2 Cover art and theme are weird. I agree.
Glad you share a similar opinion on Fate of Nations. The album seems like that girl you date and she seems "perfect" but her narrative is just not there. The storytelling aspect of an album is very important not to feel disjointed. 29 Palms, Calling To You and I Believe are FANTASTIC but it makes me angry they were thrown in with the others, almost as if Robert wanted to say "look at me the songwriter with a personnel of 25 musicians". You can cheat your way into a classic record hehe. Thank you very much for watching! Stay Tuned for Episode 5 going back to 1993
16:40 Synchronicity! The last album I played before watching this video was the first Detective album after exchanging some messages with Michael on Instagram (which had prompted me to pull it out) Synchronicity is heavy and often in these end times. 😂
