Gabriel Larena You have to train Trico to trust you and listen, just like you train a new puppy :I If you do that by endgame you'll be a well oiled machine having a bunch of fun with a new pet.
Omnislash GG And? After hearing that, would you expect it to be 100% perfect? lol In that case it's your fault if you're dissapointed over something so minor and got your hopes up for that. xD
I'd just like to call everyone's attention to the comment that started this thread and point out how it was a joke and not actually a serious remark at all.
I watched this after the Portal 2 video, where Dunky does everything he can to sabotage his co-op buddy, and its great to see Trico do the same to him.
My two dogs are a thousand times more responsive than this and I never trained them. I'd say its more like a cat, doing its own thing, not giving a shit about its owner :P
@@boat1280 this is like when people put FMVs in games and it made the gameplay glorified DvD bonus games, but people went "at least the graphics look good tho"
Trico behaves differently depending on how you interact with him. I didn't see Trico get pet once and the first thing Dunk does is throw a barrel in his face. I'd be an asshole too if I was Trico
No he doesn’t, I pet him all the time and he sucked when I played acted exactly how he did with dunkey. It took his stupid AI four tries to catch me on the falling part.
@@CalebCrew0 Trico has to SEE you pointing, and you can’t issue too many commands. So If you were ever standing ontop of him or were out of sight or issued constant commands, he won’t listen
Coming back to this video after finally playing it myself. Part of everyone's problem was not knowing that he HAS TO SEE YOU pointing toward the direction you are wanting. I quickly figured this out while playing and it's a shame many didn't learn this
@@XxDigitalDaftPunkxX how the fuck is the cat supposed to know where you're pointing if he doens't fucking see you? It's a ps4 game guys, it's supposed to be "realistic"
ingeniousclown Gaming Trico was made to learn from your commands, each Trico is unique, people didnt see that he’s a pet and will learn like a normal cat or a dog, its one of those one in a lifetime games, never again a game like the last guardian will be made!
Cloudburst thats sad to not get games like ico, shadow of the colossus and the last guardian, really sad reality of how today’s industry is uncreative.
@@livinginred4607 who are you referring to, anyway? most people in this thread (except you) are speaking perfectly fine. thanks for the karma on r/boneappletea!
@@yohanbosu well he isnt gonna understand you just by listening to you. Can you understand chinese if you are from america if you dont look at the person talking to you. He has to explain it to with his hands/body
@@stickyy_fingaas Well if someone was speaking in Mandarin, or "Chinese", I'm pretty sure if they frantically pointed the left you would understand you probably needed to go in that direction.
The game has some moment but it's not as frustrating as dunkey made it seem. Once you finish the game you will mesmerized by the journey you just took the bond with the beast is very real it's something I wish everyone would play.
I mean, he briefly mentioned it in his Best Games video, though that was probably a joke as well. As far as I'm concerned, I bought the game for my girlfriend and plan on playing it myself. I've probably played games with worser controls.
man I had a complete different experience. this game worked so well for me, trico always listened to what I told it to do and I actually bonded with this virtual ai bird dog thing. the ending had me tearing up and shit.
No, when you spam directions constantly at him it fucks with his AI. Tell him to go somewhere and then let him do his thing. If you keep pointing and telling him to go a direction 15 times he's going to start moving, reset because he received another order and keep doing that.
Not really. But it does act like an actual animal, meaning you gotta try to treat it like one (not spam commands, be patient, reward it and pay attention to its cues). Also I think there are a few bugs here and there which sometimes borks it
I'm on the fence whether it's terrible or good. It's possibly the least responsive game ever created, but it's also really unique and has some incredible moments. The visuals are amazing but the PS4 can barely run it. I think people who have the patience for it, who are fans of Team Ico's other stuff will love it. On the other hand, large segments of the game are built on these really unreliable mechanics or mechanics that are just flat out boring.
Dunkey obviously exaggerated his experiences with the AI, but yeah it's weird that so many reviewers are saying the AI doesn't work. I played the entire game and never had any huge issues with it. Worst case scenario, Trico might have taken like 20 seconds to figure out what to do. It makes me wonder if Trico's responsiveness depends on how you treat him, because I would always pet him after he obeyed my commands or helped me.
Me too. After everything he did right, I would pet him and try to find all the barrels for him to eat. So I guess it has something to do with him listening to the point where later in the game he would respond very quickly to the commands.
Jonathan Guzman its supposed to be like raising a dog. It takes patience, and it also proves it isn't just q robot or an AI, its supposed to be cared for as a companion or pet.
Reviewers are retarded and do shit like riding and giving out orders from his head most of the time, and that supposedly really confuses AI, also many people don't get the mechanics and the experience of interacting and teaching shit to a living animal. Also, everyone calls Trico a dog, like what?
omg dude im sorry for your pain but i have not laughed so hard in a long time you got an instant sub from me and a like i hope the rest of your stuff is just as good.
I find it interesting how Dunkey samples the Pokemon Battle Revolution Neon Colosseum music at 5:35 like anyone even remembers that game. Even the captioners who get every single song couldn't caption that music. Dunkey says he's not a Pokemon fan but he samples a song from a game only hardcore Pokemon fans played?
I just wanna say... I just finished the game, and God damn... I'm so disappointed I waited 7 years for that. The platforming controls are totally broken, trico's commands controls are totally broken too... It just feels so frustrating. Having amazing art, animation, and lore doesn't make a game. Having a really, really cute companion doesn't make a game. What makes a game is the gameplay. The last guardian isn't even close to SotC in terms of either gameplay or art. Now I just have to erase it from my memory.
"trico's commands controls are totally broken too" I'd like to mention that no matter how much you try to sort of teach this fucking idea that this creature you have to teach to communicate with, it takes time, it takes patience, it takes mistakes, and if you have the temperament of a call of duty player this game probably shouldn't be for you.
Tanked Thomas Tanked Thomas The AI doesn't suck though. It's actually made really well. Feed him, pet him, clean him, and take any spears out of him, and he'll be more obedient. Do none of those things and he'll ignore you more often. Trico isn't broken. Spamming his commands breaks him. His AI revolves entirely around how you, as the player treats and interacts with him. It's almost as if he was designed that way.
+Frautcres first of all please don't refer to me as a "call of duty player ", just cause I didn't ADORE an artsy game. I'll let you know that my favorite games of all times are Journey, Ico, the first Thief and the first Zeldas. It's just too easy to say that if i don't think TLG is a masterpiece, then I'm an ignorant. As I said, I liked this game. Didn't adore it. But it could've been fucking *great* with better controls. And for all people saying that it is supposed to be that way... Just... Don't. It does work sometimes and you're like : "oh, trico, listen to me you silly goose!" and you have fun cause you feel like you're creating a bond with him. But half the time, it's just broken ass and he won't listen cause his AI isn't able to understand what I'm wanting him to do.
@@echelon1014 it's true. this game just proved how many people have love and patience for a big fluffy cutie. the rest blamed the game. Sean did great. The Dev team straight up said "you dumbasses are just confusing the poor dog with constant commands like a real pet."
rdk750 to be fair it was a small group of people working on it, also sony close the company behind it (ico team I believe) because they dint make enough money.
It's kinda sad to see people actually decide not to buy this game, just because of this video. Dunkey purposely spammed commands, confusing the AI for humorous purposes. Go watch someone else "normally" play this game before talking shit about it.
Yes, I'm going to play a game "normally". Because you cannot play a game in any way other than perfectly aligned with how the devs wanted it. Concerning the argument of "it's meant to be realistic", anyone who's paid attention to the progression of AI over the years would easily be able to recognise that what Team Ico were trying to do here was miles ahead of simply being ambitious. This is a game that unless played within the very small confines of what is considered to be the "right" way, will not be fun for anyone. This isn't a game that you can play, this is a construct of wet paper that falls apart with the smallest amount of input.
Raijin Wolf I've completed the game twice. Trico worked perfectly fine during both playthroughs. Honestly just treat him like an animal (feed him, pet him, clean the blood off of him, pull spears out of him) and he learns to trust you. Its great
It's a 10/10 game in my opinion. The dogggo doesn't listen to at the starting 2.5 or 3 hrs but after that it gets better and the bond u make with this dog is something I have never felt before in any game
Except it does, let me put this into perspective, you're trying to communicate with this creature, have you ever tried to communicate with a dog? It takes teaching, and I'm more than fucking sure that this was a intention, there is progression. You go into this game expecting every command to work, and when it doesn't you call it a terrible game, if it was intentional or not.
Duke Nukem Forever was amazing. Best part was that it immediately went into the dollar bin because nobody liked it. Still pirated it though so it was worth every penny.
Metronaut I've never played this game, but I've seen hell allot of overlooking, just as much as in any other games, thanks toxicity. You also fail to put any argument in place against my argument.
