To answer Imon’s question about the actor who plays Sven the one-eye: he is Ole Christoffer Ertvaag, a Norwegian. One of the producers of The Last Kingdom said that they hire only Scandinavian actors to play the Danes. Very much enjoying your reaction videos

FYI most Royal beds were actually made of goose feathers or duck feathers which were very comfortable to lay on since they piled them over 2 ft High. The wood framing is always been there but they've learned to become more comfortable in their time over time

You're not wrong that it looks like a cult, after death saints would have cults formed around them of priests and monks who would center their worship around the saint, often preserving the body and any objects the person used.

the actor who played the priest that "had had enough" is Scottish character from Outlander who played Briana's love interest; Guthred is actor who played half of crazy Norwegian couple on the side of river, when Alexander SuperTramp ("Into The Wild") comes canoeing down the river in the Grand Canyon.

the scene with Saint Cuthbert may be weird, but that is what christianity was like in most of the world for most of its history. People believed in the power of saints and their bodies to do miraculous things as much as they believed in the Bible. Shit, maybe more, since the saints had a bunch of folk history/mythology, whereas only the priests could read the Bible. The Catholic church was very decentralized prior to the high middle ages, so peoples ideas about religion were far more diverse and mixed with mystical elements.

The whole Saint’s Body worship is very strange to most people today but it was a very popular practice in pre-Protestant Reformation Christianity. They would even break off bits of the body and put them in new churches to bless them. In Europe many Catholics still venerate Saint’s Relics but it isn’t as prevalent as in the Middle Ages.

Just to make you understand, in medieval Europe saint's bones were sacred and it was a great honor to touch one or even see one. Of course in our modern point of view it seems odd but it was just past of their culture and it was harmless anyway.

Still is among us Catholics, many churchs have some sort of relic, could be as big as a body or something tiny like a thumb or strand of hair, even a brush or Bible the Saint used.

I’m so so excited for you guys to get to know gisela & the other characters introduced in the next few episodes - they’re some fan favorites. Also I watched the whole series with subtitles and it really helped with the names!! Sometimes it’s hard to tell what the actors are saying because of their accents & seeing it written out can help clarify things :)

Back in the day the bones of a saint were basically considered magical artifacts. People were a lot more sure of the almighty power of God and anyone associated with him, so they legitimately thought the bones of a saint, if you swore or wished on them, could basically give you good juju.

Spolier alert. Yeah season 1 uhtred looked like a jerk to me who didn't care for his family/wife. All he cared about was to become ealderman of bebbanburg. But second season the main character is growing on me now. United with young Ragnar in an epic fashion(where he was enslaved and Sven was just about to kill him but Ragnar saves the day), he saved his sister finally. And now he sees Bjorn (Son of the real Ragnar Lothbrok? Vikings reference) come out the grave which is just ridiculous lol. This is as far as I have seen so far and I like the second season way better than the first season. Enjoying it so far. First season I felt like quitting the show a few times. But now in the second season the plot looks solid. I like uhtreds crew and the new actors. I can see now why the show is so highly rated on IMDb and rotten tomatoes.

Uhtred and Hild (the assassin nun) never get together in the show, but in the books they are lovers. Hild is also only 19 in the books, but anyway, one of the funniest lines I've read in the books so far is where Uhtred talks about how Hild would later become a Saint and a priest is speaking about her, then there's a line something like "I wonder what he would have said if I told him I had once spread eagled Saint Hild in a field of daisies!" 😂😂😂

Man I love this show and I really like their enthusiasm and I cant wait for the e3 of s2 it is a very powerful episode. I think I might have to jump into Patreon for the first time ever just to see their reactions. Plus more Erik and Siegfried. Finan coming into the story as well and Hild of course is wonderful. All of the s2 new characters are great in particular the ones added to Uhtred's crew.

One thing I really love about this show is their sets. The villages and homes look like something you’d see back in those days where it looks like it could fall apart of the winds ever picked up. Unlike Vikings where everything looks way too modern for its time and what they are given.

The reason why they kept Saint cuthbert's body was because after 200 years it had not decayed as a body should. They took this as a sign of his holiness as he looks about 2 to 3 weeks dead at the time and that's if he wasn't in the elements. Just one of those things that ancient peoples used to see as a sign of God

The books this show is based on are very good. Probably the best battle scenes i've ever read.

You probably already know this, assuming someone has already told you. But the reason why the daughter looked so much older was cause they purposely replaced the previous actress with her since they are/were planning a timejump later. It's been at most 1-3 years at best since last season. But the writers were planning on another timejump later so they wanted to hire an actress that could play younger while simultaneously be able to look older when the time comes. So the timejump here is very short, no more than 3 years at most. But since you can tell timejumps happen in this series, then it can be assumed there will be more of them. So they hired an actress that could age appropriately with the timejumps. Just thought I'd clear any confusion with that

How the hell is the time jump 3 years when daughter Aethelfaeld looks 20 years old. They used to marry at 13-14 years old when puberty hit. So atleast 13 years old.

Aethelflaed was around 10-12 when they were in the swamps.....and now she is supposed to be 15-16. So 3 or 5 year time jump.

@24:20 an Abbot is a high ranking priest. You may be confusing that word with "adder" which IS a type of snake common to Europe. P.S. Each season has it's strengths and weaknesses but season 2 is definitely one of the strongest of the series, enjoy! :)
