@gummiphone The narrative's not really amazing, but it doesn't have to be. It has a lot of power, a lot of emotion to it, with still real-like characters that immerses you into the story it's trying to tell. So it's fine. That said, the very story it's trying to tell is a generic revenge plot that almost devalues the themes of the first game, but oh well. Somehow I still like the 2nd game more anyways.
You're right. This upgrade feels more like a Game Of The Year Edition than a remaster. Besides, the game is fairly recent so it looks more like a cash grab.

The whole reason it's called that is related to the case of the first game. Both games were released at the end of the console's lifespans, so both versions get "Remasters" moving into the next gen. And by the way, a director's cut would actually imply changes to the game's story and presentation itself. Which clearly isn't the case, not even minimally.
I personally never played The last of us part 1 or 2 when they released on PS4 so these PS5 remasters has been my introduction to the series so I’m thankful they did it. Some of the best games I’ve played.
First time playing. Part 1 was amazing. Beat it on ps3 loved the online, beat it on ps4 and stopped playing games for years. Now I’m playing part 2 and I have to stop after the Joel scene. I hate it because he was so well developed, from family man to cold hearted back to loving. I want to finish it but I don’t now 😢
Regarding the VRR which was mentioned briefly in this video - In (120hz) VRR modes you get 75-100 fps in Performance mode at 1440p and 40-60fps in Quality mode at native 2160p (4K). Other visuals improvements are a bit of increased foliage density and almost no LOD pop-in.
I really like when games give you a pure gameplay option, or something similar, on NG+. It can really add some replay value to not have to do the same busy work or story beat just to try and git gud at parts of a game you barely stumbled through the first time.
As a new PS5 slim owner im LOVING experiencing this titles for the first time on the PS5..... i dropped my series X after years of waiting for better titles and ive just finishing TLOU part 1 remaster, GOW, GOT.... i cant express the levels of awesomeness ive experienced gaming truly does feel next gen with my PS. This one is next on the list after i jump into GOW Ragnarök.
Us Die-hard Souls fans have been asking for a 4k 60fps Bloodborne upgrade since Dark Souls 3 was upgraded in 60fps on PS4 Pro. This was at least several years ago.

im up for a remaster but not at such a barely noticable improvement. not even if it was free. This feels like a cash in after they lost money after cancelation of the online project.
Bloodborne would need a complete remake to make it 60fps. It was released early on in the PS4 cycle which means the entire code is based entirely on the PS4’s limitations. ie. 30fps.
@@bdgrey Infamous Second Son was released earlier and has a 60fps patch on PS5. My best guess is to make an upgraded version of Bloodborne (in whatever way) commercially available would require FromSoft's involvement in some way and they're just not going along with it for whatever reason. There is also the issue of fans thinking it's more popular than it actually is. Yes I know it sold well for a Soulslike but good lord, social media would have you believe for every Spiderman costume you see IRL, you'll see 2 of the Bloodborne hunter. 🙄
Looking forward to this being my first experience with Part 2. I understand why people say this is a waste, but as someone who hasn’t played it before, I’d rather play this directors cut than the original.
Similar, I was about 8 hours in to it when this got announced so decided to wait for it. Haptics and better loading times make all the difference for me.

TLOU2 has the best engine/looking game on the PS4, and now has the best game on PS5. 10 Dollars is a steal if you already own this title and want more from it.
All things aside, I don't understand people who call the Last of Us gameplay nothing special or standard. I still think it's one of the best stealth action gameplay out there. It's fantastic how enemies will only know your last location as opposed to having X ray vision the moment you've been spotted. And the mix between stealth, guns blazing and going back to hiding and just improvising is very well done and unique in my opinion. Uncharted 4 is similar with more over the top verticality and more ammo.
I mean AC unity did it better like 8 years ago. It really doesnt hold up if the story wasnt so good (I am talking about part 1). The world building is also helping a lot
I totally agree. I think this is one of the rare games where I actually enjoy to play on survival difficulty. And that is totally on the gameplay's nature. I dunno, besides the amazing story (both first and second part), the gameplay just sticked to me really really well.
Yeah, I really, really enjoy the stealth in this game. Every time I get caught I always feel like I messed up rather than the game being cheap. Some great, tense moments.
TLOU central point is Joel's choice at the end of Part I, so Part III could be about Ellie being on a mission to get a special young boy from point A to point B. It would be a redemption story for her, being put in Joel's shoes. What choice would she take?
Ooooh and then Part 4 could be about Ellie getting her head smashed by a Baseball bat. It would be a redemption story for her, being put in Joel's shoes. Plus it could be an homage to Glenn from the walking dead. What consequences would take place after that? Very very intriguing..... you see the stupidity and repetitiveness of both ideas...... rehash and repeat? Hell no.
@@Protantagonist I get your point. Even though I still like this concept, it wouldn't make the engaging story if people would know it's heading into the similar direction as TLOU1. Ellie trying to find a doc to create a vaccine seems like much better premise.
With how vivid the story still is in my mind, It's crazy to think that the last time I played it was in 2020. All I was hoping for here was a solid excuse to replay the game with maybe a few minor improvements. For the slight upgrade charge, I will gladly do so. No return looks fun too.
I'm usually a one and done girl when it comes to video games, so it's a rare occurrence that I'll replay a game. I think the only games I've ever gone back to are the Resident Evil remasters. When I heard this game was being upgraded to ps5, I thought it was pretty lame, but then I heard about cut levels being put back into the game, so yes, I'll be playing this. Naughty Dog is just on another level with story writing and makes it worth replaying
The cut levels are just walk through episodes with developer discussion. Interesting, but a one-off that you walkthrough once. They aren't actually put into the game. But No Return mode is worth the $10 by itself. And yes the game warrants a replay on a new game +. You can finish upgrading your character and guns and replay the game on a slightly harder level, but starting with whatever equipment and abilities you reached in your first play through (and will quickly gather enough supplies to finish all the upgrades).
I have zero interest in replaying this game. It's a work of art. It's beautiful. The animations and performances are incredible. It's incredibly immersive. And it's a miserable slog that i didn't have any fun actually playing.
Me too. The reasons bought this because it was on sale for like 7$ retail. I picked this up in late 2022 when i got my PS5 and i wanted to experience the PS5 patch that was implemented on 2021. I hated the story and the other reason i bought was for the gameplay and graphics that still hold up on a base PS4.
@@Rapllez “immersive” implies a sense of suspension of disbelief. The world feels like a real, breathing, living place. When you sneak up behind someone and slit their throats, it’s visceral and brutal. It’s very immersive. I also did not enjoy being immersed in that world. Realism and immersion isn’t the same thing as fun. The most fun parts of the game to me are the claustrophobic horror sequences like the rat king fight. I love horror. That was exhilarating. But most of the game is just trudging through big empty spaces doing simple environmental puzzles and brutally and immersively murdering random named NPCs and their pet German shepherds. If anything, it’s too immersive. Especially in the depressing year 2020 when I played it, I just wasn’t having any fun dragging myself through 30 hours of that kind of gameplay only to be rewarded with a miserable, depressing story that turned likable complex characters into miserable psychopathic assholes. The story about the cycles of revenge and violence made sense for the narrative, it was immersive. It was also gross and depressing, and it often felt like torture porn. It was not fun to play.
It shows a guy looking like he got kidnapped and nothing more. People always get kidnapped in this type of game. I think anyone complaining about this being a spoiler needs medical help.
The only complaint I have about this is that No Return isn't coop. Other than that it's a $10 DLC for NR and a few other small changes. Im looking forward to it. This is far from the most egregious cash grab I have seen labeled as a Remaster or 'Definitive'.
it has a comic mini series, 2 tabeltop games and a 3rd video game on the way... and that is all within 1 set of canon, then you have the tv series. it is a franchise
$10 for the update that includes a new rougelite mode, way faster loading, ps5 haptic support, and some extra commentary, is very acceptable to me. Excited to go back and play it again. Also dragging my friend in with me that has only watched the first season of the HBO show.
This is a really interesting mode. It absolutely forces you to rethink your play style and experiment with every part of the combat. You will not survive on stealth alone. Traps, bombs, bricks, and bats become a requirement to survive, while things like silencers are just a waste of resources.
I agree that the story is flawed imo but theres no way TLOU as a franchise is dead by a long shot lol. Thats just dumb. It's a hit award winning tv series as of last year. And for all your bitching and moaning, you will play a 3rd one if they release it.
I dunno Jake I can totally tell a big difference in graphics. It’s not huge but you can see everything is cleaned up and if you have a newer Oled all the highlights light up and game looks a lot better then the grainy ps4 version! Also the framerate mode makes the game really smooth too!
New costumes are cool, that new mode looks fun (gameplay was always TLOU2's best feature) and faster loading is nice. $10 isn't that bad either. It's kinda like a "sure why not" kind of purchase. Kinda wish they didn't try to make that standalone Factions game and just focused on bringing the multiplayer back with new maps, modes and cosmetics. How cool would it be if there was a horde mode. Man can only dream...
For ten bucks I can’t really complain. I just want Uncharted remakes, I replayed the trilogy a few days ago and while they’re still pretty fun they are definitely showing their age. Especially Uncharted one, it definitely still feels like a game from 2006. If Naughty Dog can treat tlou like this then I’d like to see some modernization of the Uncharted games too.
@@victor_734 Yeah but the Nathan Drake collection was essentially a remaster for PS4, there’s currently nothing Uncharted for PS5. But the original Last of Us has been remastered for PS4 and PS5. And both were PS3 titles
I absolutely love the Uncharted games, some of my favourites ever. I’ve completed the first one a few times, to me it’s actually part of its charm that it feels very much of its time, a real nostalgia trip.

I thought that when TLOU Part 1 remake came out and they were charging full game price (even for those who already bought it) that they did us dirty. However, with this one coming out as a $10 upgrade they have redeemed themselves.
It's been amusing seeing all the chatter around people not wanting to spend 10 bucks on this. If "No Return" were all we were getting, that still would've been worth a measly 10 bucks for me. Games with this much heart, creativity and technical excellence are extremely rare, and I'll support this franchise every chance I get.

This game seriously didn’t need remastered. 😭 it came out 4 years ago damn, it already looks absolutely stunning. It seems like Naughty dog only remakes their old games instead of making new ones anymore. Lmaoo they redid the last of us 1, twice.
With their engine/ physics ND should make a splinter cell style stealth game. Sneaking through, silenced heashot.. and the Sniper mission is still my standout in TLOU2
Wish they would make a Manhunt game based off this engine. Imagine how creepy that would be sneaky around low life's, thugs, and serial killers in Carcer City. Having to use real time shadows that change over time so you can't just stay in one spot and hide.
Good game. Im just for the story. I dont need to play the rogue-like edition or guitar. Would of been cool if it added some more story or a side quest like the first game as a dlc.

Do you think that Naughty Dog will follow the same road map as Part 1? Example: Release a game at the tail end of the life of the initial console, then re-release the game some time later as a "Remaster" on the next gen console, then a few years later re-release the title in a native next/current gen game?
I played The Last of Us Part I a few months ago and fell in love with the gameplay bells and whistles tailored specifically for the PS5 coming from the original, so as someone who adored TLoU Part II back when it came out, I was sad to be missing those gameplay differences when I popped over to the PS4 version after finishing the remake. That said, I'm honestly really excited to revisit the game with dualsense support, increased fidelity, and overall just a more tuned experience.
I got a PS5 for xmas.. and I have the PS4 edition, never played this game until last year when it came to PC.. I want to continue the story and for 10 bucks pretty worth it
At this point the amount of remasters they keep doing for part 1 and 2 stops me from playing either of the games. Wake me up when Naughty Dogs get tired and decide to remaster Jak and Daxter
Naughty Dog has only put out one original game in the last 6 years. That’s pretty lousy for a supposed top tier developer with multiple development teams and over 800 employees.
I bought the PS4 version of this game shortly after I beat the PS5 remake of the first one, but I haven't played it yet. I'll probably just end up getting the $10 upgrade before I start it.

I can recall picking up the original Pt2 from the store: the people behind the counter were applauding (no joke) because I had the longest pre-order in their history. I pre-order the same day as the announcement (watched the Playstation Experience showcase thingy, got off my couch and went to the store) and picked it up on the day it launched. The weirdest thing about all this is that I still have it wrapped in its original cellophane and haven't played it.. Was waiting on the opportunity to play Pt1 and Pt2 back-to-back, but then kids happened. Also still really bummed about the cancelled standalone multiplayer, was hoping to experience that universe with a friend

i definitely appreciate and respect the ambitious nature of the story telling in TLOU2, but like you I do agree it dragged on too long. The entire final act felt very tacked on. its not a perfect game, and its certainly not as good as the first game, but the first game is also... i mean... a masterpiece so... overall its still a great game in my opinion. having said that, dont know if wanna play it again. lol. the rat king still gives me nightmares.
Leave it to TLOU fans to complain about an optional upgrade with new modes and content for only $10. The original game got a remaster at full price with less new content just a few months after the original ps3 release. This has been 3.5 years and people act like they’re being swindled.
10$ for a couple new modes, a couple new levels, and a slight graphical improvement is a pretty good deal. I ain’t mad at but I just want The Last Of Us Part 3 already bro. 😭
HBO building hype for the franchise, coupled with it driving interest from people who will try the game looking for season two spoilers, or just general interest due to the show. That's my guess anyway. I'm not a huge fan of remasters in general tho, I think they're more often than not lazy cashgrabs.

Absolutely love both games, they’re my favourite. I’m excited as hell for the upgrade, lost levels and new mode. Am addicted to GOW Valhalla atm so looking forward to similar style gameplay. Great video.
I just played through the PS4 version a month ago and it was already a stunning looking game. Idk if I want to spend the $10 but the game is great. (Story stuff aside) The factions mode alone would've been worth a decent price.
@@tashacunningham7244 Factions, Uncharted Multiplayer, AC3 Multiplayer. The days when AAA games just threw in a multiplayer mode in their games, and they ended up being a really fun and original feeling experience. Well, Tomb Raider's was kinda ass though.

Definitely going to check this out on release. Mainly for the No Return and free guitar mode. I agree with you Jake. Story was alright and had some flaws, but the gameplay and combat can be so badass and satisfying.
