Man, they have got some guts to be attempting this. IMO the game itself is so cinematic and incredible that I don't think a live action show can ever do it justice. Pedro is top notch though, must-see regardless!
That literally makes no sense. If the game is cinematic than it will be easier because they wont have people criticizing the gameplay interpretation. They can focus on the cinematics ... you know. You do know the cinematics were acted out by actors using a CGI suit.. right?
@@fabiencamille1012 I think he's saying he's wary of the direction they may take. Since most tv shows/movies will often leave stuff out, add stuff in or both.
@@fabiencamille1012 I'm sure they aren't recreating the game shot for shot. They will interpret it in their own way. So unless the direction, acting, cinematography is on par with the game, it will receive a lot of hate from millions of fans. Or it could just be mediocre yet inoffensive, like the uncharted movie
@@kuruptzZz They did it for the TOMB RAIDER movie, which basically made you the friend watching someone else play the game. And which is more enjoyable...watching someone else play the game...or PLAYING THE GAME?
When this game first released, I thought it was one of the most complete video games I've played in years. From the story line, to the character development, and straight down to the game play. I will be watching this show.
After playing the game, I immediately buy Pedro being cast as Joel. I can't yet picture Bella as Ellie in my mind, but I have faith in the casting and have no doubt her performance will be amazing.
@@IchbinX ya, I feel like all the story building with the main character in the first game would be thrown in a shallow grave and spit on in the sequel so some selfish agenda can check it off their list
I really hope they do this series justice. As someone that played the games I'm trying to not hope they stick super close to the game series because as we know tv often has a life of its own. But I'm geeked to see some scenes I recognize already.
Having played the original and being one of my all time favorite games ever played, I have high hopes with the show and this trailer really shows how close they are staying to the original story.
I cannot think of anyone else other than Pedro playing joel ! He has that puppy dog look to his face as if he is harmless but plays taking care of a child so well ! I love this ! I cannot wait for this to come out ! I loved the the game and I feel this will be good !
When I saw the scene in the rain with the two collapsed buildings any fears I had this would be terrible melted away lol. It looked EXACTLY like the game. I wasn’t interested at all before when they announced they were making this a show but now I’m excited to give it a chance
We don't need exact copy of the game though after all we all played it and we got a pointless remake way before we needed it, I would've preferred if the show was based between the prologue (Sarah) and chapter 1 where u first control Joel, the world going to shit etc not copy
@@shaanysully9908 it's better to stay with the original script when people used to loved it instead of making a whole new story where people will complain that it's not the same. They took the safe route. It was probably a wise choice that they did that considering the backlash that came from Last of Us Part II.
@@ajcyrilldy we don't need the exact same script cos we've all played the game enough and it's got the remake that's coming out or is out idk and was too early for a remake, what they should give us is basically the time period between the prologue where u played as Sarah to the ??? Years later where u are Joel, basically show the world going to shit and the fireflies being created, basically more lore to the world not what we already know
@@shaanysully9908 There's no point in only showing Joel without Ellie. Remember, the only reason the Last of Us is popular is because of Joel and Ellie. No one else. And that's why a lot of people hated the Last of Us Part II because Joel is dead. Also, it wouldn't make sense to show Sarah since she died at the start of the apocalypse and she's just a defenceless little girl. Not much action there.
@@shaanysully9908 you are one of the reason why francise like Resident Evil got bad. All those dick head all think they can just do something else different from the original content so they can be “creative” and think the fan would not wants the original since they have play the game too much already. EXCUSE ME!! Maybe all the fan wants from the Live adaptation is the GAME with actual HUMAN? Have you thought of that? Not speak for all fan but Im actually finally exciting for a live adaptation that goes EXACTLY like the game.
The shot of the collapsed buildings in the lighting at 0:26 is absolutely epic. I captured a similar shot in my walkthrough. Hopefully this series does the game justice😮
This was filmed in my hometown and seeing some of the places that were featured in this trailer that I’ve been to in real life is so cool, this is definitely a show I will be tuning into!
Might be a flashback. Would almost rather them find a unique way to tie it in rather than following the game script but yuh- I thought about that opening scene too 😏
Yep.. it's gonna be a tear jerker just like the game!!! Being a Dad with 2 daughters myself, I did cry a little on that opening scene when the daughter passed. One of the few times I felt sad during a video gaming experience.
@@SuperRobertoClemente Its a game that is getting adapted into a tv show, I would recommend watching a lets play of the game or if you play games grab it for the experience
The game is a masterpiece, so those are big shoes to fill. There's a long history of games going live action that are trash. Matter of fact, can we think of any that have done well?
You may regret saying that. Being exposed to a wider audience may mean that they completely water down the storyline and stray away from the source material. I hope this isn’t the case, I have high hopes for this. I was actually on site watching them film most of the winter scenes in Alberta Canada this last winter!
One of the most iconic things in this game was the abandoned cities and vegetation, this mark is very present in here, they paid attention to every single detail, that's a good sign, and so many hours that I spent playing the survival online of this game, this is gonna be insane!
@@ruthpirz9184 ur son must be very talented then, cause this game was made with a lot of passion and great artists(the art of this game was a before and after for game industry), and for what I see they recreated it perfectly
I can tell that the production team has people that put hundreds of hours into the game as some of us super fans have. The set looks beautiful, i’ve played this game so much I can identify the part of story ever scene in this trailer is from, it looks like they’re going to have both the epilogue and prologue dlcs part of the show as well. So we’re gonna see Ellie before meeting joe and her backstory as well Ellie a bit older a few years before the events of the last of us 2. I just hope, based off the visuals, that the writing team has as many fans of the game as production.
I was able to be on site to watch them film a bunch of scenes. They did a lot of filming in Alberta, Canada. I can say that the opening scene from the first game will be in this show, as well as the lakeside resort chapter from the first game. Lemme tell you they’re going all out as far as production is concerned. I just hope they have a good writing team and stick close to the source material.
On my 1st playthrough of this game, there were 3 cutscenes where I cried. This game took me by complete surprise. I was not ready for the feels this game gave me. Word of advice: Play this game at leasr 3x and each time focus more on the story and all the little details.
@@everythingyousayiscorrect i feel like walking dead was broadcasted to more viewers and it wore out this genre. Better hope people still want to get into something like this. Im a game play not a show watcher so i know i could be wrong
@@everythingyousayiscorrect well nothing really compares to walking dead bc that’s already the best zombie show but it’s gunna be it’s own amazing thing
@@goonmonkeykingofmonkeysgmk5447 no there are a few zombie survival shows that are some either still on air some are not.. there is plenty to compare it to.
@@everythingyousayiscorrect you can compare it to walking dead but doesn’t mean it is as good as walking dead, that show lasted ten seasons for a reason bc it was amazing
Almost this entire show was shot on one street/alleyway near my house, its crazy how familiar all of this is like all the tunnels and shit we’re just in an alleyway next to the street all the exterior shots were done
Amazing! I loved the game story so I hope this lives up to it. It will be challenging to create the same feelings and storyline the game did, yet i wish them the best!
Cannot wait. I’m hoping they are able to distinguish the codryceps infection as an unexplored concept for the wider audience so they don’t see this as just another zombie production. This is a truly moving story and one that I hope gets the viewership of game of thrones.
that's backwards thinking, ngl. films and shows are limited in storytelling potential compared to games. it should be that people are thinking of ways to adapt books, films, and tv shows into videogame format.
I was playing the scene again from part one last night when Ellie hops on the sinking bus to try and save Joel and they both go in the water. I was remarking at how good they nailed the relationship between Joel and Ellie. I’ve never been so genuinely invested in two characters both making it lol this looks so promising and if they can get even half of the chemistry from these two characters that they got in the game I think it will be a huge success. Really hoping it does well
That becomes the problem with part 2, they make us love Ellie and Joel too much. So when part 2 talk about different perspective, they saying all those 'side character' do have a name, family, and life. And when some of them eventually comes around to take what Joel took from them, it's real, it's fair. Problem was we loved Joel too much.
That line up of main cast is going to make this even better, and it seems like they didn't hold anything back. They do go all out on HBO too. Gonna see some gruesome truths of the outlaw world of an apocalypse like event.
The first game was incredible. I dont even like video games but the storyline was so good that I would just watch my brother play so I can see what happens next. Definitely excited for this one ❤
I feel like video games, as a medium, do a better job of telling stories than TV shows or movies. Making The Walking Dead into a TV show from a comic book is fine since the medium is limited in how it can tell a story. The Last of Us was a fantastic story, and playing it made the experience that much more intimate and dynamic. I’m not sure it would be better in a different medium. That being said, I love Pedro so I’ve got my fingers crossed. 🤞
I disagree. I feel the problem nowadays is the most talented writers are working in video games while a bunch of glorified fan fiction writers are getting way better gigs than they should in Hollywood.
The medium of film and tv has been compromised by CGI and profits, that's all. The visual storytellers lack craft and imagination. No risks are taken, and CGI makes everything boring because the audience's imaginations aren't engaged. (For example, an off-screen death with great sound effects and perhaps just a suddenly limp hand was often more impactful than a gory on-screen one shown in detail). A lot of movies and tv shows these days have very similar visual and editing styles, and they don't even rely on visuals to necessarily tell the story -- they just film dialogue and action to convey what the characters are thinking and feeling, which defeats the purpose of "moving pictures" which should be able to convey a ton of information with framing, lighting, color, balance, movement, etc...a lot of that is ignored. It's cool that you like video games more. Thats probably because you grew up when the technology was better than when I was younger. The issue I have with videogames these days is they aren't really games; they're just big stories you can interact with. That doesn't mean they can't have great game elements designed into them such as puzzles and platforming and fighting strategy. But they don't really function as games anymore imho; they're more like an alternate reality, which is not a "game". Like, a game is an engagement by a player with rules that guide action and choice. Different games create unique experiences such as the difference between football and baseball or poker and chess or darts and pool. Story videogames with detailed graphics are, again, less games than, like, an interactive theater production or theme park. I'm not saying that makes it better or worse, but it just seems like a waste of resources to me.
@@kilgoretrout321 you sound like you haven’t played these games tbh. They have gameplay and mechanics that cannot be replicated on cinema. Which separates them from being a “movie” I feel you are influenced by articles and you haven’t played these games for yourself.
man, TWD on tv sucked compared to the comic books. It's all about how well it's written and executed, doesn't matter how good or bad the source material is.
Seeing all these characters in this trailer, and knowing their fate, makes it like looking at a fire that is going to engulf everything and knowing that nothing can be done.
Does anyone else recognize the song in this trailer? It's the song that's playing on the radio when Joel & ellie are first driving through Pittsburgh & get ambushed
Same. Let me guess, you too watched this game being played by ...the hero of Chernarus. The slayer of trolls...Basher of Bandits. The amazing ...FrankieOnPC, amiright?
Watching this was so interesting because I was there while they were filming. I'm not part of the cast or anything I just happened to be there while they filmed this and so I got to watch some of it in person!
I wanted Josh Brolin from No Country For Old Men to play Joel but I’m happy with this… I’m happy that they’re really making this so all my family n friends who didn’t play this game can experience this wonderful story.
I really hope this show actually goes into more details about the events that happened before the game obviously it's going to follow the game's story to a certain degree
I'm not normally for games turned into movies but this looks like it's gonna be amazing! And it's on HBO so they will spare no expense to make this be amazing!
As one who submersed himself into both games as they were reality and have Ellie's tattoo to cover up an old wound 😝 (just like Ellie) I think this show will be amazing. Remember when you're lost in the dark.. always look for the light 🕯️
Looks decent, only concern is Ellie I'm having a hard time getting past her looks almost seems like they went out there way to cast somebody that looks nothing like the character.
I wouldn’t count on them not deviating a bit and making a few changes but as long as they keep the same spirit and foundational attributes that made these 2 characters beloved in the video games while not leaving out other major players it’ll be good. Everything looks accurate so far and the LOU creators gave their seal of approval. The creator of the show did Chernobyl which was very good so my expectations are pretty high as well as my confidence.
Hugh Jackman would of been the perfect choice in my opinion for Joel especially after watching Logan. He fits the uptight, brutal, quiet sincere and heartwarming character that Joel was in the game. We’ll see how Pedro does, high hopes and looks very good
Funny thing is Hugh Jackman from the movie Prisoner served as the inspiration for Joel, while Jake Gyllenhaal from Prisoner served as the inspiration for Rafe in Uncharted 4 (look up their designs)
The only thing I was concerned was the sound design for the creatures and seems like they kept it like the games... I'm glad. Can't wait to watch the show when it comes out.
After many many years not finding a good game , I played the original the last of us and the story kept getting better and better . Hopefully this will be a good adaption
I hope they go a different route than the game, the chemistry joel and ellie bring was what got me hooked on the game to keep playing. Keep that chemistry but write something new yet faithful to the games logic etc.
