No.... It was called Holy Roman Empire ( Of United Nations - because AS YOU SURELY KNOW Germany consisted of hundreds of little states before Prussia united them ) because the POPE in ROME gave his blessing to the emperor, therefore making him Kaiser.... So basically Holy Roman Empire as in Empire blessed by the Holy Roman Catholic Churches God
People love to discuss one of the worst defeats in the Roman army history and how the Germanic tribes joined together and massacred over 20k Roman Legionairs forcing thier leader to commit suicide a d took a Roman eagle as a prize of war completing Roman's humiliation But......... What most historians dobt bother to mention was the revenge campaign they waged against tose same Germanic tribes afterwards that was truly horrific even by the standards of that period which were truely unimaginably horrible essentially the Roman's invaded Germania and left no man women or child they found alive. The Roman's literally put 10s of thousands of Germanic tribes people to the sword. Essentially rendering the the Germanias victory in the Teutoburg Forest to the status of a Pyrrhic Victory at best
@arthurdirindinjr1792 Friend, This Betrayal And Massacre Of The Germans Was A Propaganda Campaign Of The National Socialists Of The 19th Century And The National Socialists Of The 20th Century, Putting The Romans As Inferior Before The Barbarian Germans But The National Socialists Do Not Say And Omit Vengeance And Humiliating Defeat That Julius Caesar Germanicus Given Him And Another Thing Due To The Fault Of Tiberius For The Jealousy And Envy He Had Of Germanicus He Didn't Put An End To That Threat Once And For All And Not To Mention That Marcus Aurelius Wanted To Continue With His Legacy, Kulio Caesar Germanicus asked the bastard Tiberius for one last campaign to put an end to the remaining threat and Tiberius said that he was not sure that if Rome had conquered, incorporated and Romanized Germany, he was sure that the empire would have lasted much longer and would have even been a good region to put an end to. The Huns and then conquered all of Slavia and another part of Germany called Scandinavia. Don't worry that the Roman Empire would not have collapsed, but rest assured that the European political context would have been very different and English would not have been the official language. In its place, everyone would have spoken English. Latin Furthermore, I do not rule out that Rome, with the conquest of this region, was strong and unified and Christianity would not have been the official religion and would have taken so much power and the Romanians would have solved their intrinsic problems and would have remained strong and united and with the mentality of fighting. Against A Common Enemy Rome Was At The Head Of The World Today And As A Civilization We Were Very, Very Advanced And Be Sure That All Of Europe Was Like The Rest Of The West And The World Was A Much Better Place Than It Is Now With The Roman Empire At The Head.
in the battle of Tapae 87 ... the Romanians lost 2 legions to the Dacians ... 20 years later, the Romanians destroyed Dacia ... it was not good to upset the Romanians
Hermann der Cherusker as Arminius is known in Germany and his colossal statue can be seen in the near of the city of Detmold symbolizing the unity of the Germanic tribes.
Read the book of Ben Kane: the hunt for the eagle. It was constantly raining for a week during the battle. The Roman's Armour had become heavy by the rain, so they had really problems moving. Also the constant german attacks exhaused them. Virus made a big mistake by going through this forest and not listening to its officers....
It's a shame that the Germans lived like primitives in the forests and the Romans had running water and roads and civilization, they would have had everything to gain also because Rome was quite tolerant on all fronts, what level of illiteracy and stupid propaganda do you have to have in your brain for a such a STUPID comment, STUDY THAT IS EVEN GOOD FOR OLD PEOPLE!!!!
@@AdituLaudisMMXXI it's really good bro. I mean the variety of camera angles that put you in a skirmish. Or on the ground from possibly the final viewpoint of a dying man. Any chance you could throw a narrator in without hurting your budget? But, either way my man, you do awesome work
Just 3 notes: 1. Didn’t know the Germans wore plaid pants. 2. Didn’t know there are Stonehenge formations in the Teutoberg forest. 3. Germanicus was the grandson of Marc Antony.
There were no ancient autobahns cutting through the forest. A jungle of ashes, beeches and oaks covered the hills. The birds don't chirp and sing in autumn. Wind and rain made the music according to the lore. Wet humus ground doesn't make marching sound. A peat bog can't be crossed by armoured formations. The Alps aren't visible on the horizon.
@@ottosaxo I know that forest well, yes, there are birds in autumn. As for the inaccuracies of visual representation. Marching order is wrong. Attacks wd be directly out of the "Unterholz". Germanics would've had few swords, mostly armed with framae, smaller shields. The show-down, where most Romans died was carefully prepared (Kalkriese), with sand walls on either side; the Germanics exactly didn't storm against a well-formed Roman defensive line, as Arminius knew only too well, how ineffective that was.
Wrong … Germanicus was the actual Germanic brother of Arminius (Hermann) that totally sided with Rome after he and his brother were taken to Rome as tribute from their Cheruski tribe to broker a peace !!!
It is possible that Arminius sent a fake message to Varus with the story that "there was an uprising of a couple of tribes, he was surrounded and under siege, and needed "help" from Varus. This would explain why Varus left the safety of the river Lipper , and was in such a rush to divert towards the north. Pressing deeper into the forest despite warnings from other officers. According to Arminius' letter, it was a "small uprising, but he needed urgent help."
As my Germanic warriors came down upon the Roman’s, I listened to the spectacle of the Roman marching. Total wars marching sounds for highly organized men like omans are so imposing, however the Roman’s always had a weakness. That was being ambushed.
Imagine abandoning your men to lead themselves because you failed. One of the worst officers I’ve ever seen. Much credit to whoever took over the army after the general abandoned them.
No, No, no. Roman legions marched in a column, not deployed in battle formation. This was one of the several reasons the legionaries were so vulnerable to attack in the confined forest.
@garrystone561....absolutely! the fact they marched through the forest in a long thin line meant the Germans could attack at any point and have an numerical advantage and did this until the Romans were virtually outnumbered at every point of contact!!!
they fought for days, in no world is an army of 21,000 trained professionals just going to allow themselves to be butchered by people who they considered backwards and unsophisticated.
The Romans were annihilated with many factors planned for by Armenius. The rain was torrential, mud was a factor. Many were struck with spears and arrows without the attackers exposing themselves. If not mistaken, the Romans were four across, nothing like formation at all. Quite funny that the Germanics would often just run away during battle....and for good reasons. No, Teutoburg was very one sided, probably a few hundred to 34000. Only about one thousand Romans made it back. And I will stick with what I said.... Romans fought well in one direction....look what Hannibal did to great results. A little bushwhacking goes a long way.
It reminded me the napoleonic battles in Russia where the russians were harassing them in various mini battles during the winter to not allow them to obtain supplies and this way force them to retire while losing the weakest.
This is under the reign of Augustus, when Roman republican armor was still commonly used. Infact for the first few emperors republican armor was used, after Augustus died it obviously faded out more and more but during teutoburg it was still used
@@RomanumChristum Well, the Empire started in -27, the battle of Teutoburg in 9. At the beginning of the Empire ok maybe... But after 36 years the Lorica segmentata was much more used than the republican uniforms 😃It appeared at the beginning of the first century in the Rhineland regions, and then spread throughout the empire
@@andremesot5144 Yes, however generally speaking Lorica segmentata was NEVER the main armor of Roman soldiers, Infact it was the least worn throughout its history.
Soldiers are overall accurate. Sure, there is lack of segmentata, but it NEVER was more common than other armors. This are augustan era legionaries, they are depicted as an 8.5/10 in this video, the maniples look very uniformed, all of them using the same helmet model and such.
How to make high quality battle? It seems to be made by two players.(1player rome, 2player german) Multiplay battle replay? or program? Tool? I'm curious.... and Always i admire you
German player here, I don’t know how Aditu edits HOWEVER I do know that yea battles like these require coordination between multiple parties, as you can’t replicate this with AI
Great video, amazing quality and your hard work is paying dividends my friend. Arminius will always be a coward in my eyes but I loved this piece of work. Great job and keep it up!!!!
Armenius was a masterful leader. It was the Romans who were cowards taking on tribespeople with armored legions. Germany is considered the best country in Europe. Proof there that no one needed to be Romanized.
A coward?? Arminius was extremely brave, fighting in the forefront himself. Besides, at age 26 uniting warring Germanic tribes, outsmarting the Roman governor and out maneuvering the Roman invaders' militarily was pure genius like it or not. No-one else in Europe achieved anything like it. Not the Gauls nor the Britons. Why even take a Roman point of view beats me.
How wide was the path? How wide was the marching formation? 6 abreast? 8? Unable to form the tripl line battle formation the Roman's in marching formation were highly at risk.
This epic battle lasted three days and it is known that more than twice as many civilians accompanied the Roman legions, about 50,000, including slaves, servants, wives and children. In fact, this long and slow column of about 15 kilometers even included a mobile prostitute.
The one big flaw, is you're presenting Roman Legions marching through a dense forest ,what ,10,15 abrest. When the reality is that because of the dense forest they mainly marched in at least 2 abreast. If I'm wrong ,correct me. Still loved the vid.
If you are going to have birds on your soundtrack please ensure they are relevant to the continent in question … Carolina Wren and Eastern Towhee are North American species that do not occur in the forests of ‘Germania’. 😂
Im sure the germans regretted the massacre when the revenge campaigns hit them. They lost way more than they killed of romans, several germanic tribes were almost exterminated in the process.
Jim Walls....This is a documented one sided affair. They did not march as you see here.... it was a narrow trail with the Romans stretched out 12 miles. It was a classic ambush. Silva Latana was another good one.
I know little of history but where's the forest? Is all the open space a real representation of the land as it was? Is there artistic licence in this presentation.I was led to believe that it was a claustrophobic environment.
In the battle in the Teutoburg Forest, it was not the Germans who fought, but the Slavs, specifically Poles. The German narud began to emerge around the 7th century. At that time, on the present lands of Germany, Poland and Russia, there was a great empire of the Slavs called Lechistan or Great Sarmatia. It stretched from the Ural Mountains in the east to the Rhine in the west. From the Baltic Sea in the north to the Kalkaz Mountains in the south.
Aesop's fables Krylovs fables the wisdom of the tales from different mythologies and Sun tzu summing up the defeat of arrogance and those too arrogant for guidance fromm the true boss the supreme being the general who serves human beings and Nature wins
My problem with a lot of digital re-eanactments of the TBwald is how dry and wide the roads are. I guess for gameplay purposes this has to be the case. However, the actual battle by all accounts, was essentially a clever series of ambuscades, a gradual whittling away of Roman strength. While the results were spectacular, I'd wager, were we able to watch the real thing, up until the Romans final attempts to break out, TBW unlike Hannibals famous Trebia ambush, would likely be one of the more boring engagements. Nevertheless, it'd be essential viewing for any arm chair general.
A roman marching column was set up differently and looks differently. People were carrying a lots of stuff, the shields are in a cover on the back, and nowhere there was enough space for 10 or twenty soldiers next to each other. Tactics on a march was one of the basic things the romans followed. The video might look nice, but is utter nonsense.
It is a big mistake to believe that the attack and battle against Varus' army b e g a n on a march. "prima Vari castra" ... rapiuntur! The translation is not good/correct if the words "prima castra" are translated as "the first camp". It was the summer camp 9 a.D. where he sat in court and it was the front camp - das vorderste Lager - of the Romans (viewed from the Rhine).
arminius was a traitor who used his chief of scouts position to drag the Romans in an ambush. There is nothing honorable in it and Germanicus putted him in his place until other German gaved him a taste of his own medicine.Hannibal,on the contrary, got all my respect.
