One thing to bear in mind with Yari wall is being in it WILL tire your troops out. if you're not expecting the enemy to make a push, I'd save the troops energy and not be in it. when you see em coming, switch into it.

Compared to other total wars, is Shogun 2 more heavy-handed with the effects of stamina on troop performance? Cause it really seems like it
@thebladeofchaos
@thebladeofchaos 5 месяцев назад
@@MrAdamArcenot 100% on how it affects troop performance, but in this game it's a lot less stern by virtue of being out before Atilla, where the entire system got a rework and units would get worn out by a stiff breeze. it DOES affect their actual stats. I just don't know how right now. I know in M2 it would actually slow their attack rate as well.
@Rupertssons
@Rupertssons 5 месяцев назад
There's a noticable effect on troop speed and performance when they get tired. However, you can actually rest up your troops if they can rest or walk for a while instead of sprinting everywhere.

My favorite way to fight siege defense in Shogun 2 is to have my ranged units on the wall, and my melee units outside right at the base of the walls. Ranged units getting clear line of sight into all the melees are able to output so much damage with very little friendly fire.

As a follow up to my previous post I thought I would next do Shingen's most famous rival The Dragon of Echigo Uesugi Kenshin. The man who would become known as Kenshin Uesugi was born under the name Kagetora Nagao in May of 1530. He wasn't born into the Uesugi but into the Nagao clan which was one of the branch clans. He was the third son of Tamekage Nagao but disaster struck in 1536 when Tamekage was killed in battle while going against the Ikko-Ikki who were on the rise in the area. Tamekage's eldest son Harukage seized control and Kagetora was sent to a monastary where he remained until he was 14. Some of his father's retainers urged him to take control of the clan but Kagetora was initially reluctant to move against his own brother. However, the Uesugi put him in charge of Tochio castle where Kagetora was able to successfully repel a rebel attack. In 1548 Kagetora managed to gain control of the clan from his brother when he was 19 years old. 3 years after gaining control of the Nagao clan an opportunity arose when the head of the Uesugi was forced to seek shelter with him when he was decisively defeated by Ujiyasu Hojo. Kagetora approved on the condition that he was named heir of the Uesugi clan. With control of the Uesugi now under control he moved to secure his immediate area but was stopped when two lords from Shinano province asked for his aid against the rising Takeda clan. Kagetora would have a number of battles against his most famous rival Shingen which included the famous battles at Kawanakajima. It was also during this time that Kagetora became a buddhist monk and adopted the name Kenshin. While his battle against Shingen were ongoing Kenshin also had a renewed rivalry with the Hojo. Kenshin managed to push to Odawara castle in 1561 but was repelled but much like Shingen would do later he burned the town surrounding the castle. This was followed up by both the Takeda and Hojo taking numerous castles in 1563 and 1565 but Kenshin managed to take Minowa castle from Shingen in 1571. It was two years later that Kenshin would begin to move against Nobunaga after the Oda warlord removed the current shogun Yoshiaki Ashikaga. Kenshin started by besieging and taking Nanao castle after sparking unrest in the surrounding area. This put him into direct threat with Nobunaga who sent two of his chief retainers in Katsuie Shibata and Toshiie Maeda to deal with Kenshin. This culminated in the Battle of Tedorigawa in 1577 which was an Uesugi victory despite being outnumbered by almost 20,000 men. Kenshin wanted to follow up his victory at Tedorigawa and allied with Katsuyori Takeda to do so. However, Kenshin would end up passing away in April of 1578. Most believe he died of cancer but there is a famous theory that Kenshin was actually assassinated by a ninja who was hidden in the bottom a bathroom stall. In the wake of his death Kenshin left behind a succession crisis due to having no children of his own. Praised for his leadership and battlefield prowess Kenshin was a devout follower of the Buddist god Bishamonten. This along with his social and economic decrees led to the rise of the standard of living in his home province of Echigo.

Another interesting theory about kagetora is that he might have actually been a she . mostly due to letters addressing him as "aunt" being depicted during his/her time as traditionally female as well as refusing to march certain times of the month . Kenshin´s death also took place during this time witch sparked the theory that "he" might have bled out due to uterine cancer ,When the Uesugi were forced to relocate, they repeatedly took Kenshin’s remains with them, and refused to tell even the shogun where he was interred. Kenshin was the only man allowed by the shogun to wander among his harem. Kenshin never married and never had children at least not directly /adoption. Is it likely? maybe not but its just one of those random historical facts i love

You were talking epic battles on the Napoleon playthrough and I had one weaaaayyyyyy back in Total War Warlord edition. Province was in west central area of the main island, I had 6 of the 12 man warrior monks, 6 of the 12 man battlefield ninjas and 6 of the 1 man kensi. I was attacked 4 times buy 3 different factions over the course of 2 turns. The smallest army was on the second day and it was over 800 men strong and I held by hiding from the archers in the forest and making them come into the woods after me. Those 150 men killed close to 3000, that's the killed not counting how many ran away!! Glorious!

Love the battles in Shogun 2, they seem to require more genuine tactics somehow rather than just mushing units together

Try to disband your yari sam, they are costing you A LOT of upkeep during the early part of the campaign. Ashigaru units will save you a fortune until you can afford samurai units, later in the campaign. High ranked yari ashigaru can beat almost anything in a fight in yari wall, even when they get the upgrades from things like an armory or blacksmith.

Nice wins Lionheart. Friendly reminder, while watching your fight using your general, you will want to stop or have your archers fire some other unit when your general is engaged because you can actually kill (friendly fire) him. As for your units in the castle I usually leave them in loose formation so enemy archers can't hurt them as bad till you need to use spear formation when melee units climb through your walls. Even still great wins :)

Shogun . Research economics early game especially takeda. Their economy sucks. Research military police to get metsukes who can hunt agents and also handle corruption in provinces. Monks from temples for happiness. The sake dens give us ninjas and happiness. The special units of cavalry are not really useful early on . Hojo territories are necessary for a navy eventually so look for the opportunity to take them. Kiso is necessary for building material. But if I remember correctly u need to go east to get rice .

For offensive sieges, they are costly, best way if you fight them is to use your bows to snipe their best troops from safe angles while keeping their bows busy with units just away from their range. When threatened, they usually won't move even if your own bows are shooting them in the back. You just have to mindful of your ammunition, don't waste arrows and use inspire. You should aim for one of your bow units to take one of their valuable units. Also research heaven and earth ASAP!

I just started a campaign of the Anegakoji clan using the all 46 clans playable classic and I decimated Shingen and his troops the other less well known clans have interesting history as well here's a small biography of the head of Anegakoji: Anegakoji Yoritsuna (姉小路頼綱) Yoritsuna ANEGAKOJI (1540 - 1587) was a Japanese military commander and feudal lord who lived from the Sengoku period (period of Warring States [in Japan]) to the Azuchi Momoyama period. He was the first son of Yoshiyori ANEGAKOJI. His wife was a daughter of Dosan SAITO. Another name of his was Koretsuna MITSUGI. Also: Mitsuyori and Koreyori. He was the family head of the Anegakoji clan in Hida Province. He held positions such as Saemon no suke (assistant captain of the Left Division of Outer Palace Guards), Jiju (chamberlain), Dazai daini (senior assistant governor-general of Government Headquarters in Kyushu), Sakyo no daibu (master of the Eastern Capital Offices), Yamato no kami (the governor of Yamato Province) and Dainagon (chief councilor of state) (self-designation). Summary In 1559, Yoritsuna was handed the reins of the Anegakoji family by his father, starting to serve as provincial governor. In 1572, he departed for battle to Ecchu Province in compliance with Kenshin UESUGI, but in its aftermath, he inherited the reins of the family because of his father Yoshiyori's death. In 1578, when Kenshin died, Yoritsuna joined with Nobunaga ODA and moved his headquarters to Matsukura-jo Castle in Hida. Many powerful local lords under his umbrella opposed him, switching their allegiance from the Uesugi clan to the Oda clan, but Yoritsuna managed to attack and destroy every one of them. Because of that, the more territories the head family of the Anegakoji clan took over, the lesser their support, and the Anegakoji clan's power weakened as a result. Also, in 1579, Yoritsuna began to suspect that his first son, Nobutsuna Anegakoji, would launch a rebellion, and so killed him (some people say it happened in 1583). Under ODA's umbrella, he cooperated with Narimasa SASSA in his Ecchu invasion. In 1582, when Nobunaga died at the Honnoji Incident, he attacked his enemies Terumori EMA and the Kojima clan, as well as his real younger brother Akitsuna NABEYAMA, conquering Hida thoroughly. After that, he came into conflict with Hideyoshi TOYOTOMI, taking sides with Katsuie SHIBATA and Narimasa SASSA. A consequence of this was that he provoked an invasion by Nagachika KANAMORI, under the order from Hideyoshi; Takado-jo Castle in Hida, in which he had taken refuge, was attacked, and he surrendered (the Battle of Toyama). As a result, the Anegakoji clan as a Japanese territorial lord in the Sengoku period went to ruin thoroughly. Many of his family including his son, Hidetsuna ANEGAKOJI, killed themselves, but Yoritsuna survived, was confined in Kyoto, and died there in 1587. Apparently his last son, Chikatsuna MITSUGI, became hatamoto (direct retainer of the bakufu, which is a form of Japanese feudal government headed by a shogun) of the Tokugawa clan.

The shock cav are only good for the initial charge. They will break down If you let them stay too long. So after they make contact ( preferably when you see a lot of the infantry are out of position due to the cav charge) immediately pull them back. I usually have a pair of them together at all times to do a charge rotation.

Hello, im new around here, but i want to give some advice, you playin shogun 2, so the First thing you should be aware, is that every single ai of the game is oportunist, the negociation and war, are all balanced by how well or shit you are, and by that, you should catch why your fall in a triple way war, yours enemy are everyone including yours allies, because the game is made to not help you, explain futher, you a moderate guy, you engage a another guy, and that one call his allies, that sucks, but in middle of chaos, uesugi a bigger guy, rush in war with you, even if him was friendly with you before, so what to say, you make youself the pray. So in the future, considere if anyone will make a move if you start a war, saying about total war, is somewhat easy go on with everyone targeting you, but in my opnion, is very exaustive, so i personally don't recommend keep prolongued multi-wars in this game.
