We've ridden the new mild and lightweight Specialized SL 1.2 motor. This motor is used on the 2023 Specialized Levo SL and the 2024 Specialized Kenevo SL. In this video we try to describe the characteristics and behavior of the motor.

I agree with your comparisons with the TQ motor but after riding the specialised 2.1 and Trek fuel EXe I fell in love wither almost completely silent TQ motor even though the 2.1 had a touch more grunt plus the Trek is quite a bit cheaper now as its been out a year now, great review 👍

Thank you for the great review. I’ve tried this motor and also the Bosch SX and I think the bosch is by far a stronger motor, also at low cadence as 50 rpm.. if you have the chance it would be great to put the SL 1.2 and also the Bosch SX in the same comparative chart made some months ago where you have compared the power at different cadence and rider input. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Yeah, at very low cadence, the SX could be more powerful. The 2.1 SL can be quite weak down there. But the SL 2.1 will output almost all it's power at 70rpm & 70W input. Based on my brief ride, the SX won't do that. At higher cadence and rider input, the SX has a lot to offer.

Rode a full powered bosch not an sx, also have a derestricted shimano, ive test rode one of these bikes and loved it, if i was buying another e bike it be an SL, if i be honest i hated the bosch cx it just felt boring i felt no connection whatsever to it

Thanks for the great video. One point that is not clear to me is about support, or amplification . I understand support is the percentage of rider power that the motor will put back to help. So at 100% support the motor would equal the rider power at the most. However, you mention in the video a 300w response from the motor to a 70w rider input, which is way over 100%. Could you please tell what I''m getting wrong? Thanks in advance.

How does the bike ride with motor off compared to the stumpy evo and full Levo?

I can't really say. Many of the new mild/lightweight emtbs feel fine pedaling above cut-off and I do that a lot. I rarely bothered with full powered emtbs. I expect the SL bikes aren't the same as the non-assist bikes. There is a responsiveness and lightness when pedaling fast with a non-assist bike that I don't think the SLs can match. I haven't tested side-by-side though. Regardless, the SLs are getting good.

Can I swap the old motor with the new 50 nm pedal assist motor?

someone did it with the kenevo sl. they said it is not possible with the levo sl due to motor mount points being slightly different.
