AMD, Congratulations on the first vehicle review in the new shop!! I wonder if the sky high price of gas will start cooling interest in the 4X4 market as it has in the past. As for the new LX, it seems like a painful reminder of the fact we don't get the more basic versions of the Land Cruiser sold abroad.
@GwinnettLawns

Probably not because rich people buy these and they got plenty of money to buy $10 gallon gas.

I to wish they would sell the more “affordable “ LandCruiser in the states. Unfortunately most people who can afford these kind of vehicles like all the luxury and it doesn’t make sense for Toyota to sell the high volume ones from around the world here. There are many great vehicles sold around the world that we don’t get here and I think it’s because most Americans have different tastes in vehicles than elsewhere. Our roads are better and our infrastructure so we don’t need as many rugged vehicles here but we do like them fancy and expensive!

The LX should be discontinued and the Land Cruiser should be brought back with off road marketing and base trim levels. I think it would do well.
@4Runner123
@4Runner123 2 года назад
@@andybub45 absolutely right. Build quality is what we want and old school basic 4 wheel drive. I guarantee it would sell well! I’m sure 4Runner sales would suffer. I had opportunity to buy lx600, thought about gx460( cut off bottom half of grill on both, put a real off-road bumper on. Over a year wait for gx460 where I live for how many people ahead of me waiting. Ended up buying 4Runner Trd pro for reliability, half the cost of lx600, basic as can be in this day and age. I do wish it had more power, more gears etc… but I know it will last!!! Not so sure long term turbo motor issues with what’s coming out? We will see.

My wife’s new 2021 Escalade has been in the shop for three weeks for various build issues. My GX and my daughter’s rav4, not so much (by not so much, I mean never). I begged my wife to get the new LX, but she wanted the caddy because of the big screen. The caddy will be dead in five years. The GX will still be “new”. If it’s my call, we will only buy Toyota and Lexus vehicles. With car prices going up, long term reliability and resale value are critical to not going broke and helps with wealth building, too. It’s never a good idea to lose $75,000 on a car every 5 years (or 3/4 of the original cost at any more reasonable price point). Long live the LX!

@sly9263
@sly9263 2 года назад
@@kennethbryan3738 the old Lexus adage of "less things to break" is not the case now that they've moved to more modern drivetrains. Also, I agree that we don't buy a vehicle for a panoramic roof but the question becomes "where is the cost justification" aka why are you paying the same amount for the Lexus as competition that comes with a lot more modern features? The whole cost benefit of Lexus has always been that its CHEAPER than comparable luxury vehicles AND more reliable. Now the reliability margin is much more narrow with an equivalent pricepoint despite lacking features on par with the competition. The value proposition here is very flawed; this vehicle is easily overpriced by $10k or more.
@sly9263
@sly9263 2 года назад
It will still sell? Sure, but that's a vague statement. Will they sell to their expectations- I don't think so. There's 15 of these for sale within 50 miles of me. $100k vehicles don't move like hotcakes, even including when they're fresh and new. Objectively this vehicle appeals to a niche crowd vs the broad demographic of it's competition.

I think another problem is a SUV like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer also exists. It's interior is just as nice with even better space and tech. No it's not as well put together as the Lexus. No it not going to be as reliable as the Lexus, but neither are the Europeans. It will be easier to work on than the Europeans for sure. It is significantly larger than the LX, but still has the off road chops as it is still a Jeep. Let's be honest, neither of these are going the same places a Wrangler is going.

Great review...thanks. I don't see how making a vehicle more complex is going to make it more reliable. Were I in the market, my inclination would be to buy a used V-8. If one can afford a $100,000 plus vehicle, they can certainly afford to pay a little more for gas. Yes, I can understand Toyota wanting to meet the CAFE standards. Low profile tires do not belong on a TRUE SUV. It's was stupid to eliminate the bumper. Bumpers serve a valuable purpose. Lexus is getting away from an SUV and creating a boulevard cruiser that really should not be taken off road.

I'm glad that you get it. I think that even many Toyota fanboys fail to understand the LX's target market. The LX is a great vehicle because it IS a Land Cruiser, but the American audience that buys these vehicles wants tech and luxury features, and isn't going to keep the vehicle for 20 years. If the LC stayed and came poverty spec with cloth seats, that would be a better buy IMO, but Toyota has the Sequoia. Boneswise, the LX is still the LC that appeases us Toyota fans, all except the price! I think this is why the TX is coming to market to rectify the LX's shortcomings. While percentage wise, Lexus has more retail sales compared to the Germans, the majority of their sales is lease much like most of the luxury car market. Because rich people have finances, they can afford to go through more vehicles over the time than your typical Camry/Corolla owner (penny pinching 1994 Celica owner) trying to hold on to them for as long as they can.

About lack of swiveling lights - I would check what's the angle LX600's headlights illuminate at low speeds. My 2019 Mazda 6 25T S (top trim in Japan) has LEDs that don't swivel, while lower trims have swiveling lights. The reason they don't on mine is because below 40 kph they illuminate at nearly 180 degrees around front of the car, so there is nothing to gain from any swiveling on top of that. I expect this might be the case with LX600 too.

Absolutely excellent review. I have been watching many and trying to decide on what our next car would be. The one thing you said in the review is that "everything you touch is over built" and it just stayed in my mind. Ultimately we did buy the 23 LX 600 in luxury trim. I was torn between the Escalade because of its obvious initial advantages in size, technology etc. We were driving an 18 LS 500 that was magnificent and decided to stay with Lexus. Over the first 1000 miles I am very satisfied with the decision we made. The transmission in ours at first seemed a little strange from first to second gear either way. It loves about 1/3 tip in, and I feel no turbo lag. The minute you drop into drive you just know it's of very high quality. Thanks again for the great review.

What are the designers thinking when designing second row? Are they all short? Is this designed for the Middle East and not US? Looking at this I’m losing faith in the redesigned GX when it get released.

I'm curious what's hidden under the hood. It looks like the engine only takes up about 2/3 of the engine bay and then the rest (front-most) is blocked off. Is it just empty?

I was dreaming about getting this generation since 2015 set my life straight to be able to afford it. But the lexus dealer here is asking for 160k USD with no tax and excluding registration fees! Similarly specced one in the US is around 118k. That's a deal breaker for me I will get the land cruiser 300 fully spec Ed for 60k less when the market gets back to its senses.

I can see why the land cruiser vanished and why this version will probably face the same fate. Even if I don't have reclining seats in the back my 2015 Hollander Limited feel more though out in terms of luxury. I have powered sun shade over the panoramic sunroof, yet this gets standard sunroof with manual sunshade. For the price gap I'll stick with my Highlander anytime.

The thing that disappoints me most about the 2022 trucks from Toyota and Lexus is the new engine/ turbocharger replacement for the V8 engine. I got burned with getting a new engine in my 4 cylinder 2007 Camry, and as they say, once bitten twice shy. I would love to trade in my wife's 2017 4Runner on a new Lexus or Toyota SUV, but with the new engine I now intend to wait for 3 years so others take the risk. At least the 4Runner will be still an amazing vehicle by then.

I can't believe they gave us a land cruiser with the grill every offroad enthusiast hates... I do understand the Lexus thing though. It never made sense that people wanted the Toyota instead of the Lexus before lol

Good review and you sum it up so well; i have seen Toyota Initiatives on engaging customers and understanding from customers on how best to improve Toyota cars and I reckon programs such as 5 Continent Drive have been crucial in Vehicle development and improvement. What I feel lacks in these kind of initiatives is a bit more focus on luxury features and developments for high end cars against the competition. The effort and is more on road/off road performance of these cars which as you rightly put in terms of reliability no one comes close.. Once they bridge the luxury gap to match competition this Lexus model will be at the Summit..

Hello from the United Arab Emirates where this LX is very popular. It costs around 135k USD for the base model. I just can't get around the mini van looking back door. Not just yet. Nice review by the way. Thanks

It amazes me that the new Sequoia features a tailgate where the glass lifts separately but the LX and Land Cruiser have a cheap mini van rear hatch.

Great review!!! Keep them coming! I like what you said about what is the purpose of this car (Luxury/next level performance) How does the new Sequoia TRD compare to the Lexus 600/570? I really want a stripped down version of the LX (even with the Premium fuel requirement) if it is greater than the Sequoia TRD. Thanks!

For a new model refresh this is a bit disappointing, especially at this pricepoint. The tacked on infotainment screen on top of the center stack should have been actually integrated and the screen+controls below it are redundant of what should have been a single, integrated infotainment system. Piano black buttons on an $85-120k luxury vehicle is unacceptable. The 360 surround camera is a fisheye lens (still unchanged from years past) and quite possibly the worst in the industry- I'm surprised more reviewers don't point this out since its pretty bad. F-series pickups have a vastly superior 360 surround view and a much better integrated gauge cluster+LCD for at least half a decade or more. The LX gauge cluster LCD looks like a low trim option with the way it's integrated/abruptly cut molding toward the analog gauges. The LX is a luxury offroader and as such is on the smallest end of the "full size" SUV range; it's quite a few inches smaller for interior space in every dimension compared to it's similarly priced competition for all rows. Despite this, they focused on top tier trim options for things like a cooler and limo-quality 2nd row amenities as if anyone would be buying this over an Escalade or a Navigator for that purpose. It just feels like the design element of this vehicle was subject to a lot of cost cutting while the price itself remains ostensibly high. Stuff like this is tolerable when you're looking at GX level pricing for the same capability and (better) reliability but for what the ask is on the LX, this is just not competitive. I love Toyota and Lexus but I'd never buy this LX despite originally wanting to.

The new LX is so outdated the second it was unveiled. And Lexus thinks this is the next chapter of flagship luxury? 😂
