To me the saddest fact about post chamber of secret Lockhart was he had no visitors in the hospital. Not even his mom who loved him so much as a kid? No one?
@@MrHarrystank some people are just kind and sympathetic, just because someone is an a*hole does not mean I need to reduce to his level and become an a*hole.
I always thought Lockhart was a fun character. Yeah, he was a fraud, obnoxiously insufferable and you want to see him knocked down but I still thought he was fun.
There are brave hufflepuffs tonks There are twisted gryffindors peter pettigrew There are nice slytherins professor slughorn There are dumb ravenclaws *Lockhart*
Well in a way he was quite smart. He actually came up with the easiest ways to get decent grades and be successful in life which in itself is an achievement. It just depends on how you look at things really.
If he had only gotten permission from the original people and just written fiction novels, he would have been remembered as one if not the best wizarding author. We don't hear much of other novels like that
My thoughts exactly! There's nothing anywhere about him hiring an author, so I suppose he wrote them himself. And from the way the novels are described, seems they must have been captivating. Shame he didn't have the patience to find out what he's actually good at (writing), and didn't go with that. But he wanted too much too fast :-(
They couldn't have picked a better actor than Kenneth Brannagh. He is such a good actor! I have seen many of his movies, ranging from comedy, to suspence, romance, and drama. He is quite versatile!
Did everyone remember that his favorite color is lilac? As much as I hate Lockhart, I can't deny that he is my favorite part of The Chamber of Secrets when I re-read the books and Kenneth Branagh is a perfect Lockhart in the movies.
@@kingarthur7276 she thought he was dreamy just like all the girls at school. The boys on the other hand thought he was an idiot and were laughing their asses off when Snape shot him across the room
See, even I do that sometimes it is as it is that most of the spells are from Latin they just find the word or phrase . Then they just fix the appropriate wand movement as what may be something for one and something else for another. Then they may also test it . Actually, I do that quite often😊

Someone in Hermione’s bloodline could have technically been a squib because J.K Rowling said in an interview that a muggle-born most likely have had parents or someone in their bloodline be a squib
@gargi chaudhari he probably said “famous Granger” because Hermionie was known for being the best witch in her class. Dumbledore probably told Slughorn that.
@@uscman molly never really liked gilderoy she wasn’t the kind who cared much about handsomeness she cared about goodness and if they had gud personality
The actor who played Lockhart really managed to bring this character to life. I just finished re-reading Chamber of Secrets, there are some scenes that I wish made it into the movie, but I am happy with how well Lockhart was portrayed by the actor.
It was definitely an extreme punishment. If it was only temporary and not permanent it would have been better; giving him a taste of his own medicine without making him a lifelong resident of St. Mungo’s.
I think it would have been interesting if he actually recovered his memories, but the 'from the outside' perspective he gained while being an amnesiac, combined with a new outlook from spending so much time as a simple and innocent person while befuddled for so long, would have caused him to basically have an epiphany and change of heart and actually re-learn the magical skills he had forgotten so long ago, becoming a courageous protector of innocents and battler of Monsters and Villains to make up for his past crimes. If asked why he has changed, he could answer "to be a Hero like Harry Potter." which I think would make a good full-circle moment.
I thought that the reason why his memory didn't came back was because he was actively denying his past. Like, he knew he was Lockhart at that time and readed his own books and propably believed he actually did these things. So, maybe his inner self fought against realisation that he was actually a fraud.
19:39 "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once. I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." --Bruce Lee Being very good, arguably the best, at memory spells must be good for something.
Under the right circumstances such as helping a severely traumatized person to heal from the aftermath of such an event. Still, memory charms should always be treated with the greatest care.
Dumbledore was extremely smart to expose Lockhart by making him teach a class with Harry Potter, an offer he couldn't refuse. Even though fans hate Lockhart as a character, you have to admit Kenneth Branagh did a great job starring as him
Yes he did. An apt job of resembling that pompous peacock, just as apt as Imelda Staunton did playing Umbitch, and the late Alan Rickman did playing Severus Snape.
Dumbledore was extremely stupid to allow a wizard he knew wasn’t qualified to take up the post as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and it almost resulted in said teacher wiping the memories of both Harry and Ron. Not to mention that year especially they NEEDED a competent DADA teacher. But Dumbledore gives them Lockhart who all but advises they flash a smile at the bad guy. Smfh.
@@Yvanehtnioj2000to be fair, it was to expose him. Also this is Hogwarts. Harry and Ron get into danger just by breathing. Really didn’t need help there. You could also make the argument that Dumbledore redeemed himself by getting Remus Lupin. I know he was a werewolf but he had it under control thanks to the wolfsbane potion.
“Gilderoy Lockhart,” “Order of Merlin,” “Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League.” “Professor Dumbledore has granted permission to start this little dueling club,” “To train you all up,” “In case you ever need, to defend yourselves,” “Like I myself has done on countless occasions.”
I'm gonna be real, that's kinda sad gilderoy lost all his memory. Yeah he did try to erase Harry and Ron's memory and having to be treated like a two-year-old. This is quite stupid though.
Lockhart is actually one of my favorite Harry Potter characters. As I read the second book, his personality intrigued me. It was obvious his accomplishments were false, and I was looking forward to learning his backstory of why this is. I was a bit dissapointed that he was simply Obliviated and his character wasn't explored much more. Despite this, I still enjoy his character a lot.
That is actually a very interesting view on Lockhart. I wish they had done more with him in the books. It would have been cool to see other things done with the character. I did however enjoy that they had a brief return to his character in one of the later books.
👍🏽 👊🏽 👏🏽 Great vid! Here’s a game for other viewers: The last digit is the Harry Potter professor you are most like: 1. Albus Dumbledore 2. Severus Snape 3. Minerva McGonagall 4. Gilderoy Lockhart 5. Professer Sprout (I don’t know her full name) 6. Horace Slughorn 7. Remus Lupin 8. Mad-eye Moody 9. Dolores Umbridge k. Your choice!
Such a shame since it was a cherry wood wand with a dragon heartstring core that got thrown out of the window. Cherry wood wands with dragon heartstring cores also require their Wizards and Witches to have exceptional self-control and focus and are also prized among the Students and Faculty of Japan's Mahoutokoro School of Magic.
The extra details about his background are really interesting! Many posters are commenting that if Lockhart had simply decided to write biographies of the amazing wizards who saved villages from werewolves, etc, instead of claiming their accomplishments for himself, Lockhart could have become a successful nonfiction writer. I never thought of that before.
@Mr Pool I felt that way too, until I remembered that 1) he did that to himself and 2) he did that same things to so many great and innocent wizards beforehand, we just connect with Lockhart cause we didn't meet the other wizards
I always thought it would have been cool if after losing his memories, someone let him read his own books and since he didn't know that he wasn't the one who actually did all of that stuff, he basically tricked himself into becoming the great wizard everyone thought he was
This reminds me of the old chamber of secrets GBC rpg game. There was a section where you were accompanied by Lockhart and even though he technically had access to all spells at this point he would always throw signed photos at his opponents no matter which spell one chose😂
Imagine a wizard seeing suspicious clouds and they become terrified and run outside. The wizard braces for an attack by death eaters and brutal torture and the menacing skull dark mark in the sky *and it is just Lockheart's face*
@@zara2820 I understand that and, as much as I loved Dumbledore, it's just a bit difficult to disregard that, sometimes, it appeared as though he was trying to satisfy his curiosity. Especially when you consider that, at some point, Dumbledore had all three of the Deathly Hallows and was (theoretically at least) the most powerful wizard. He could probably have gone further with defeating Voldemort.
Just shows why dumbledore has a dark past, he’s not above manipulating people, or using people, for the greater good. Dumbledore could very easily have become a villain, we see him as this old kind wise man, but really there’s a morally ambiguous guy who just so happens to turn to the light while grindlwald turn to the dark
Hey, I am franch, and I started reading HP in English, for the moment i’m reading HP 2, so the fact that you make a video on Gilderoy comes right on time !! Discovered your vids 2 years ago, and you’re still improving !! I really love your Work, keep it that way, one day you’ll have the fame you deserve (starting in France, maybe ! =D )
I think my favorite moment with him was in St Mungo’s when he said a fan from the second book wrote him everyone we and he said, “I wish I knew why. I suspect because of my good looks.”
these videos are awesome! I love the way you put so much detail in your "The Life Of ______" o you theory videos. I learn so much by just reading captions, and hearing your voice! keep up the good work!
JK Rowling said after Voldemort died dearh eaters fixed his memory a lot and he know thinks he is gildery Lockhart and people called him the dark lord for his memory charm
i feel like his personality traits fit slytherin better. slytherins are ambitious, cunning, and clever in getting what they want. ppl say he was put in ravenclaw bc he was skillfull enough to find a way for him to be noticed with all the fame and etc, but tbh with all the shady stuff he's done just to stand out and get his dreams fulfilled of ppl paying attention to him, he seems more slytherin-like to me
Not to mention he’s got a really nice voice, there are other people who do explaining videos like this and honestly their voices are a tad annoying. MovieFlames voice is strong and you really feel his personal connection he has towards the stories and backgrounds. It’s made me go back and reread and rewatch some of the series he talks about. 😊
