I loved this movie as a kid! I watched it so much i had it memorized as a kid. And, after watching some of your other videos about Disney, and looking back, its probably cause it has a good portrayal of a healthy family. Simba's parents both love him and when Mufasa scolds his son, he's open about how its because he loves him and didn't want to lose him. He scolds him and reaffirms his love for him without terrifying him. He doesn't terrify and traumatize him like King Tritan did with Ariel. I had enough of a terrifying parental figure at home; I think apart of me subconsciously really wanted the family portrayed in the Lion King.

Simba's parents both love him and when Mufasa scolds his son" are you sure about? are you sure you didn't stare into a void and then said that there is gold beneath it even thought it is empty? as far as I'm concerned the lion king characters are skeletons of ones. Mufasa have 1 scene for scalding his child and 1 scene when he shows any personality (the morning report) and that is it everything else is either exposition or him posing as a leader without being one. the rest are no better so whatever portrayal of a healthy family the movie is """trying""" to do it ain't working and thanks to the huge amount of fear mongering doesn't seen healthy in any way.

Yeah pretty much. If this movie were closer to nature, Simba would have left Pride Rock as an adult and established his own Pride to avoid inbreeding.
