The Little Things Killer Explained (Denzel Washington, Jared Leto) 

Whilst denzel washington was "extremely" suspicious for most part of the movie, there is a glaring hole in the whole theory. He could not have been responsible for the murder of the first girl in the kitchen as he literally just arrived in LA that same night....where as the murder was suppose to have taken place 24/48hrs prior to that. Also let's not forget denzel never volunteered to go to LA in the first place, but reluctantly agreed his CO's orders. Not to mention, if he were the real killer, he could've planted so much evidence in Sparma's house to incriminate him, as he was alone in his apartment for a good few minutes....

It's definitely Deke. Also, how did he know what the barrette looked like? The parents just said it was a red one, yet he bought the exact one.

Do people not see the license plate at the very start ? That same license plate is at the police station when Denzel enters his old place of work first scene, the killer is a cop but not Denzel. It’s Rodgers

Deke also changed cars very easily in the movie ! I think Albert has been obsessed with Deke all theses years !! I think Sparma Knew that Deke was the killer , Deke also caused that other guy to kill himself ! Deke is a master at covering up the scene ! Joe Deacon covered everything up

Interesting based on this . Sparma probably followed Deacon throughout the murders and got turned on by watching ,shaving ,feeding them and biting the victims and Deacon realized this when he went to the observatory and realized someone has been watching him .

Denzel shot the girl who could identify him as the killer of the other girls.

Spoilers! My two cents: Deke is not a serial killer; he is a guy who is depressed, who lost everything; because of a mistake he made. Deke is a man who killed a woman by accident, and got work-time friends to lie for him, and lost everything because of it. If he were a serial killer; there is no way he would feel bad about shooting and killing a girl. He became obsessive over a case; and sees the same thing/failure in Jim Baxter a young LASD detective; the two set out to get an Albert Sparma, a repair man. There is a ton of circumstantial evidence that points to Sparma being the serial killer; but there is no hard evidence. In the end... the two of them do some very questionable things, but neither of them are to blame for any murder... especially ones where someone threatens a man's family. Deke is haunted not turned on! Baxter is angry and haunted; not gleeful! The film leads you to a certain point, and then changes direction.

Upon the many videos watched, I think you're much more closer to what I'm really looking for. You brought out some clues that were not even noticed. I think there could be a sequel!

Ya you’re the first video that makes a good case for deke being the killer frim that first killing. Like that girl also saw the killer in the hall maybe that’s y deke attacked sparma during questioning. so that she couldn’t be used in court because he recognized her in the hall and now she cannot testifying because she saw the detectives fighting and her testimony is now useless. Also I agree now those pics were his trophies. That was weird. And he knew how to clean the sparma crime scene perfectly. Also when he threw the chest in the fire deke took out all the murder newspaper clips. The chest was empty. He kept his trophies.

Awesome breakdown ! I’m going to reference SAW because there is one similarity I would like to point out. Det. Tapp while in his apartment has photos of articles, victims, maps etc. He was in a red lighting room the color red signifies a number of qualities like rage , revenge , love etc. while Deke is in his apartment in green lighting which can signify envy , lust and sickness. IMO Deke is the killer

I noticed how when the music turned on in that girl apartment deacon was the only person who didn’t seem startled like as if he was there already 🤷🏾‍♂️ plus he pretty much taints the crime scene notice he spit his gum out near the crime scene by the bridge just in case his dna does pop up

It's about 'cop-cover-up-for-cop' thing. Sparma is just a director's decoy. He's not the guy in the beginning or the one who stalking a running girl. Deke has to 'implant' some evidences in order to help Jimmy.

I could not convince my wife it was deke, but I was definitely seeing what you were.

I think there is an equal number of each in the script. I can make an argument either way. I mean, he does say, ‘I've got to work tomorrow, come on let's go,’ which is a hint that nothing's going to happen out there. If he was taking him out there to go and find a body, then he certainly wouldn't be going to work the next day. Or is he lying?”

Out of 3 main characters if I had to choose who was the killer then I would go with Deacon. If you look at the possibilities you will find more evidence against him being the killer. He had all the photographs of the victims in his room which was meant to be personal for him(including the picture of the victim he actually killed with the other victims). He was the one who firstly figured out about the place in front of the apartment from where the murder was being observed and it was no one other than Albert. Deacon wanted to find out who was the observer from the window and then he starts doing his own investigation to know about the person so he could figure out what else does he know about the murders. I think all the murders were performed by Deacon but some of the bodies were transported by Albert. It was Deacons quest to know who that person was. We also see Deacon becoming obsessed with Albert just to know what else he knows about previous murders. I guess Albert was the one who was also quite obsessed with the murders(he was doing his own research) and he somehow knew that Deacon was the killer. Deacon also murdered the escaped victim(not by mistake but he did it on purpose) who might have observed his face and knew it was him. Also at last he gives the red barrette to Baxter exactly likes Ronda's (he knew what exactly it looks like ) and lastly burns all the evidence from Albert's room. He saves Baxter just because he was also save by his team mates at the time when he was in trouble murdering a victim. But the biggest question , why was he doing it ? I think Deacon was a disturbed person. He not only ruined his carrier but also his relationship.

Joe was hunted by the one girl he accidentally killed because he thought she was the killer, the movie didn’t explained or show any reasoning behind the other deaths besides the other women being prostitutes. This movie mostly focused on Joe’s past, and actually that was the most interesting part of this movie. They focus on too many things and never explained things to their audience; introducing a new character without actually letting the audience get to the other character made this movie disjointed in its plot. It’s an interesting movie at best but, not telling much and wanting the audience to figure out what was going on, was the down fall of this movie. Cops covering cops, wrong people being accused without enough evidence and a very questionable ENDING. at most all this movie does is make you think outside the box and make you come to your own conclusion. What really piss me off about this movie is that the “KILLER” was never known or explained.

Not among them is the killer, never found it yet, why? There is a possibility for a sequel, there is a new detective in the last few minutes in the movie

I thought it was Deke the whole time. You guys forgot about when his boss told him the suspect had fancy boots with nice stitching. One of the last scenes was Dekes boots on the bed with fancy stitching on them

There are two killers in the movie. Deacon was the original killer that killed 3 womens (1 shot by him) and another killer was a team of two (Sparma and another mystery guy who drove the car when Deacon watching Sparma’s apartment). Sparma like to watch but he didn’t kill the girl in the apartment. He watched her from the other apartment and he might be the one move the body). Deacon wanted to stay in LA because he was curious that someone copying him and he was turn on again and kill Rhonda (he know exactly the red barrette and clean up all the evidence)

There were two killers for sure....the new killer was a copycat of the old case killer....I got my eyes on Denzel. The visions he was getting after he got a hotel room was a brain scratcher. A girl he killed was massaging his foot in his creepy vision....WHY?!!!! Denzel was SHOCKED when he realized that the second killer did just like he did.

Deacon accidentally killed the surviving witness and his co-workers covered for him. But he was not the serial killer in the case he was investigating, or the one he was assisting Remi Martin on.

I think the killer was the finger print guy.

Plus it all explains why he killed that girl by “accident”. Because she could have identified him.... damn

I just finished watching this movie and I liked your approach but unfortunately your off by a mile. I'm surprised so many people think its deke. It wasn't. Let me explain. I'm gonna address some of your points you made in this video and then explain the message the movie was trying to get across to the audience and the ending that I'm surprised people don't understand. It kinda goes over there head. 03:28 When you mentioned what deke told Jimmy ''Its the little things that get you caught''. He is not saying that because he is a serial killer. He's saying that because Deke IS a killer!. Remember he killed Mary Roberts by accident and the killer got away. That's what ended up destroying Deke and ruined his life mentally, physically and his marriage was ruined over the guilt of letting the killer get away ,and killing an innocent girl he was supposed to protect. And so when he says Its the little things that get you caught he is saying it to warn jimmy to never slip up or he will be found out to be a killer as well, as he had essentially murdered Sparma with the shovel. 03:57 He slowly drives in an old car so he maybe the Rothburn Kidnapper. And the other two victims were further away. Why?. Because Deke knows who killed Marry. He did. Her ghost is literally latched on to him, LITARALLY LATCHED TO HIS FOOT in that scene. Forever!. ''Its never over'' means he can run to another county away from where everything happened but ''its never over'' not until he finds the killer. And the two other victims are further away because he doesn't know who killed them but there ghost still linger due too his mere guilt. Now people tend to find this scene creepy but I never see people pointing out the way Deke hallucinated the way the victims were dressed. Remember the real killer would cover the victims head and strip them naked because he got off on seeing there naked dead bodies not there face. But when Deke hallucinates there covered by blankets because he wants to give them the dignity that they were robbed of in there final moments, (And yes Deke is controlling weather or not the bodies are covered or not in that scene because it is of course in his head),and there faces are uncovered. If Deke where the killer you see it would make much more sense for him to picture them with bags on the head and naked and get off on it by himself in his motel room. But he didn't. Because he doesn't get off on that. all he saw was the three innocent faces of the girls he couldn't protect. 06:27 you said ''He ain't even show any emotion after she got bodied'' my brother with all due respect...did you watch the movie. lmao. It was a good movie, but it's not cool when you don't have a real conclusion. You get headache trying to break it down. I watched Momento so many times I just gave up....

This takes place in 1990 so the car isn’t as old in the movie as you think

I think people are saying the forensics guy in beginning has same tape near him that was in the trunk of car in beginning and he has same tag numbers as a Mercedes in the police station that was in car in beginning. I have to see the clips to verify. But I also think deke is the killer. Because I dk I just think he was. Because sparma would of been to easy and since I ruled him out and Baxter a family man I know he was clean.

He did not try to abduct Margaret Roberts because the timeline would not match he have to go home get dressed as a cop then come back with the other cops by that time she would have been long gone and not lingering at the scene

Good points but no, Deke wasn’t the killer. The FBI agent described what the killer would look like. 2, why would deke health deteriorate to the point he has a heart attack if he was the killer. And why would he care if the other detective was going to be ok about kill Letos character. Because he know the pain of accidentally killing someone and didn’t want him to have the burden on him, so he gave him the red Ribbon thing.

only one big problem...at minute 3 and 40 seconds of the movie you can briefly, but clearly see the killer is Jimmy when you pause it...There are lots of little things to support that throughout the movie...going along with what you're saying, it was kind of creepy of Deke to be wearing the boots he picked up from the crime lab while working the case.

You were doing good but the flashlight on the victim's is just an obsessed Detective just like in True Detective with Matthew McConaughey's character however this movie is so horrible you shouldn't even say this in the same breath with True Detective

I just started rewatching it and the guy chasing this girl is def Caucasian. His hands it’s . Like they show him lifting trunk and putting on gloves. White hands. It could be that because his plate said fan etc he was trying to catch a girl but didn’t. All the other crimes actually happened. Hmmmm maybe just to throw u off initially

The movie was weak. I know it was compared to Seven and all that but, I thought Seven was better. Of course, I’ve only seen the movie once and I could eventually see the beauty in it and change my mind.
