As much as I do like a bit of modern day movie musicals, I prefer the old fashioned ones too or on stage. They just have refreshing quality that are still a bit resonant today.
When I took German in high school, we learned that "zeigen" is the verb "to show." But sometimes we got our vowels mixed up and said "ziegen" instead. The teacher said, "Nein, nein! 'Ziegen' means 'goats'."
THIS is why the movie is so much better than the stage musical. The song is not nearly as enjoyable without the dancing puppets. But how on earth did the marionetteers get the goat's tails to wag?
What bothered me about this song and the "do re mi" song is, all the characters in the movie supposedly speak German, yet these songs have plays on English words.
Maria's high notes are astounding, but I simply adore that sigh of amazement and astonishment Georg lets slip when he witnesses her talent. My favorite part hands down! You can just tell how taken with her he's becoming, or possibly may already be.
Anna Bouchard Somewhere between 2-05 and 2-09 right when she finishes going really high and the kids are repeating after her. He lets out a sort of phew sound as she finishes.
Only can be found once in a blue moon. But I intend to make the best of how Hollywood has changed in recent times. But art like this will live on everywhere we look.
+Purple Cat you must have your head buried in the sand to suggest that no excellent, artistic films have been made in the past 2 decades. I feel sorry for you.
One of my top favorite songs from the movie. Julie Andrews had such a spectacular voice. Those were the days when people actually had to have TALENT in order to be a famous celebrity.
As an early childhood teacher, I believe that music do bring out the best leaning ability, competency and talents of children and even adults. Music like such can really get everyone involved in and inspire them pursue excellence. Bravo! The best actress, music and movie!
I just love the sound of music. I love the kids and Julie Andrews. The movie reminds me my childhood, and the farewell part reminds me when I was thirteen and I carried a little girl. I wish I can meet Julie Andrews.
A favorite song of mine from one of the greatest movies of all times. The Sound of Music is on the top 3 of my sentimental favorites-- my other two are Mary Poppins, and The Wizard of Oz. I cant help turning up the sound and singing along with this song; its happy and makes me feel good. Julie Andrews had such a beautiful voice. Those high notes? Wow! 😃

So sweet of you to post the lyrics! I thought I knew the whole song, but just found that I had misheard a few of the lyrics. Such a wonderful song, and thank you!
Watching this when I grew up I could see why everyone feel in love with Julie Andrews as Maria, she's gorgeous and a voice to match. This is one of my favorite scenes and I love the Sound of Music. It's by far one of the biggest contributors to my love of music and my connection with music. I love it couldn't praise it more if I tried.
This movie was one of the contributors to my teen baby steps of enjoying musicals before I saw a full length performance of the equally beautiful Wicked.
My grandad new Julie Andrews, when she was about ten her parents were friends with my grandads parents and they went to see a show together, Julie's parents asked my grandad if he could take her in and get a table with her. They then because good friends and they called each other boyfriend and girlfriend. Incredible really
At the age of 7 or so her Father discovered she had a fully devloped 4 Octive range, she was born with that voice. God gave it to her and I thank him for it!
The Bil Baird puppetry in this scene will go down as classic as he set up so many puppetry masters like Jim Henson and Frank Oz.....Wonderful craftsmanship.....
Came here cuz I read a list of in facts about the movie. It said that Friedrich had a crush on Julie and u can totally tell from this scene. So I had to see for myself and was not disappointed.

I just found this again looking thru videos. It's 11:15pm and 10 hours of night shift to go😝. I'm tempted to sing along with this, but I'd wake the 96 yr. old lady I'm watching, so i'll just have to hum
