Anxiously awaiting August. My 63 birthday and the story mode in Long Dark! I have mentioned this at times around the RU-vid comments but never directly to the Developers. The graphics in this game are innovative and beautiful. At a time when nearly everyone is striving for photo realistic textures and scenery the water color-like illustration style makes this game a work of art that can stand on that fact alone. The lighting and atmospheric effects that have evolved since the early releases make the world of Long Dark completely believable and totally immersive. I often find myself drawing myself up - "hunkering down" against the cold of a raging blizzard. I can feel the cold cutting to my bones even though it's summer and 97 outside and my air conditioner can barely keep up. If this was a real place it would be a cinematographer's dream come true. Literally every screen shot you take could be printed out and hung on the wall. As someone who went to college for graphic arts, photography, cinematography and animation back in the '70s I appreciate the Long Work ;) that went into making this game. Cheers!

I've got to say I really REALLY love how much you guys appreciate and listen to your community, very rarely do I see developers listen to the community after they make a well functioning game with a good level of content. Ever since this games release on September of 2014 I knew that with something as unique as this game this was bound to go somewhere. Sure, there are survival games but, very rarely are survival games focused on survival difficulty as this one. So, thank you Hinterland for the hours and hours of gameplay and fun. I look forward to playing this update and playing the Story mode in about 2 months but also whatever else is to come as well.

I don't care about the save games, we'll forgive. This game has come a long way and when I see the ideas you guys and the players have I even get more excited. The only thing bothers me sometimes is that when you make a fire, you'll have throw in a lot of wood to get some warmth out of it. But besides that I'm convinced that this game is going to be perfect.

Depends on the kind of wood you use. When in the colder regions, focus more on fir and cedar wood and less on sticks and repurposed wood if you can help it.

Fir is a pretty bad option for firewood as it will burn quickly, spark and cracks alot and wont give a lasting ember. Birch is a way better firewood as it will give lasting embers, it won't spark and crack and you can even burn it fresh when cut in winter time!

Although you can use fir that have fallen and been laying there for a while, punk wood. It won't burn with a flame, but it will smolder for a while, good for putting it on the fire before you go to bed and you will have embers in the morning after.

Ajesseal Welp, i started playing 2 days ago and when i was having a good surviving, boom, update and erased my save, i didn't like the hud too much, id prefer the infos when i press start rather than having to see then in the menu, and if i didn't knew they just did this 1 time in 3 years i would be pissed off

Quartering deers and stunning rabbits with stones? Interloper just got a lot easier. And making maps with charcoal is a really cool feature. They only thing that I can come up with as a extra feature is more realistic animal behavior like wolfpacks instead of having wolfs just walk all acrosse the map and more types of animals. Oh and a sanity meter where you have to do really human things like reading a book or eating good food to make sure you don't go insane with a hallucination feature. Absolutly love you guys and keep up the good work.

If they've implemented all features they mentioned in the Kickstarter there will be a willpower state which needs to be maintained, but I think they'll keep this for storymode.

They actually have a road map for things they wish to add in the future and it includes both of those things, including season changes, horses, canoes, AI in sandbox mode, etc. Link: hinterlandgames.com/the-long-dark/roadmap/

Remember what was said, hauling quarters will make you more noticeable to carnivores, and it looks like it will be a big carry-weight gain. I wouldn't call it easier just yet.

More realistic animal behaviour would be wolves not so haphazardly going after humans, but it's good for the game challenge though.

From the very beginning back when the game had that simple interface where all you could access was your backpack and journal The Long Dark has been not only a beautiful experience but a fun one as well. Every time I started the game up and looked at the start menu I longed for the day that we could experience the story mode as I started up the sandbox. Each update never failed to add awesome new features, especially the challenge modes, as well as stuff we just plain needed for the gameplay. I cannot wait till the 1st to finally be able to click on Story mode and see just what we are in for.

Oh my glorious God... I've put 109 hours into TLD. This has been one of my favourite games I've ever played. I just want to say a most sincere THANK YOU from the depths of my heart. I think I actually shed a tear when you stopped talking and all was left was the music at the end. I can't wait to try the Faithful Cartographer update! Thank you for keeping the game true to it's roots!!!

The only reason I think a few different common weapons would be interesting would be because of the ammo variety. That way then everyone in the world doesn't have the exact same ammo, so when you do find ammo, it isn't always guaranteed to work in the gun you have. I'd love to see like an over-under 12 gauge, or other forms of hunting guns, and maybe a little pellet gun or slingshot for small game.

I've never had the ability to play your game, my computer just couldn't do it. But I just purchased your game on steam in the summer sale. While I've never been able to play it myself I have watched people play it for years. After finally playing myself I have to say it is an amazing and atmospheric game that's quiet beauty is something I have never experienced. It is also my first survival game and it is awesome and really fun! Great work you guys!

One thing that i am missing in TLD is some kind of conserving the meat from spoiling. Smoking would be nice, reducing the amount of calories it gives, but lasting longer

I love how much is changing in this game. I don't play the game that much, around 20 hourse for a few days, then coming back after a few months to play another 20 hours and so on and each time, it feels like a completely new experience. I also got my father into the game. He's not into video games at all, but he likes the canadian wilderness and we played The Long Dark a couple times together now. He's enjoying it so much that he even watched a lot of Let's Plays on RU-vid (another thing he normally never does). So thank you for creating a game even he can enjoy :3

This actually brought me to crying... I've been with this game since it first came out, and since day one I loved it. Over the past two years I was feeling doubtful about its full release, it was an early access games after all. But watching this really reminds me of the beauty of the game, the dedication of its creators, and the amazing things early access can achieve. This devs, they are what early access needs. Lots of love for all of you at Hinterland and a big thank you back for allowing all of us participating in the Early Release access to be an influence in the development of the The Long Dark. When you factor in the setting of The Long Dark, the recent changes and the ambient / weather sounds, it is as if you are seeing through your own eyes rather than those of a survivor. Just scrolling thru old hinterland and TLD vids - This game is so FUCKING amazing. I don't apologize for the language because this game is honestly that good! If you have never played this it is worth investing hours and even days into this game! - I get lost in it's vast exploration and pure beauty! I am so grateful for Hinterland creating this game. I wish I wasn't poor or else I would personally fund the developers to do whatever they would like with this game! I love this game and it has changed my life in ways only so many could understand.... This game helped me kick a wicked 15 year opioid and drug addiction and I can now say I am 2 and half years sober.... The Long Dark kept me busy as 'idle hands are the devils playground' couldn't be more true. Now, whenever I am down or even have some spare time from my job and family, I spend it playing The Long Dark. I hope one day, someone else could benefit as emotionally as i did, from this game. Thank you to Hinterland and anyone involved in backing or creating this game!

Honestly this game holds a special place in my heart just because I know how hard these devs have worked. I’m 45 days into survival and I’ve been using spray paint to map. I thought charcoal was for something else entirely. I’ve been doing my best to avoid outside help, but I guess I’m glad I discovered this. There’s probably no way I’ll get the ‘faithful cartographer’ achievement anyway. Haven’t even left Mystery Lake. But at least I’ll be able to map the crap out of this area now.

Mates, im from germany so dont laugh about my grammar ^^ U did one of the best, for me THE best, survival game in the last years!! So much love and how its grows in ur hands with the community is the best i have ever seen in an early acess game! I love to struggle with the cold and the animals around me! The Cartographer update is very nice too, i loved it without map but with the charcoal option u did it just in the right way. Keep on goin and i hope u can do more games like these!!! Rock and Roll!!!!
