Well I have to say much respect! Your players wanted changes to your game; despite the complexity, time and cost involved to do that, you not only listened but also actioned it; improving the system the game over AND you want feedback to make sure you've got it right....I cannot wait for the likes of EA and Ubisoft make huge losses to genuine game developers like you +1 Much respect.

EA and Ubi don't need to listen to players. They can make more money with some shiny ads telling players what they want. If they really get worried about a developer, they'll buy them out and gut the firm rather than start putting their customers first.

I love this game but this isn't enough, the story mode is long overdue, you released only the first 2 chapters practically one year ago and in all this time we just got the moose and a new cooking system, i don't really count the new areas because when you have access to the dev creation kit the only thing you really need to create a new area is just a bit of time and imagination. In the last 2 years you guys released "big" patches just before steam sales as if you wanted to show new potential customers that the game is still in full development. Which is technically true but come on, the game has been available on steam for almost 4 years and we still don't have the story mode. 9/10 for the sandbox but please, focus more on the story.

It's not EA, but a smaller indie studio, and they really have no reason to update the game after its been out for so long. People complain about how long it takes these small studios to release substantial updates, well it takes substantial time! "better late then never" is so lame to say to them, it's such a backhanded insult imo

This is a major improvement! My biggest complaints in the old system was that you could only cook one item at a time, so you need a ton of fuel to cook not a lot of food. This looks to solve that, while also making it a bit more fun! Great update :)

Savage Source, I don't know, but I did find a recipe for making bread which was a note left by a contributor. But I think it was just general knowledge, not something that you can do in game. Either way, the note was very useful and contained info on how to make bread from scratch and how to measure the ingredients without instruments (baking soda or yeast the size of a quarter along with a quarter size of salt, mix with two parts flour to one part water. Kneed until moist but not wet. I forgot how long to cook it though (30 minutes if you have access to an oven, or something else if you have to put it on a campfire).)

Looks great! That makes nine regions now, not to mention transition zones. I wonder how big this home away from home is now, in square km? Anyway, excited to see the new cooking system in action, even though I will miss the oddly therapeutic water coming to the bubbling-rolling boil sound effect in the old snow melting menu. Thanks to all of Team Hinterland for the work put into this new update, very much looking forward to getting lost in it.

The world is now over 50 square kms. The bubbling sound is still there, along with other new cooking sounds. You'll just hear them in real-time/in-game vs. in the menu. And you can hear more than one if you're preparing multiple items at the same time.

Nice idea about the books. I'm sure plenty of interesting literature is under Creative Commons license (mostly classics). Hinterland might add such books to the game so that players could actually read them near a fireplace.

i bought this game 6 months after publishing, when I have to look back to the old inventory system, or the trappers cabbin was the only rifle place, and then an new map coms - Coastal Highway, hinterland, what you have done with that game, it is so incredible good, so realistic and beautiful, i have to really say that no other game can reach this deep survival feelings, I wish you the best for the future Dear EarlyAccessSuporter

Günter Same. I remember being so excited playing it when it came out on preview for Xbox. There was a 60 minutes trial and I just felt in love with the game. (I even got into another account and wasted another 60 minutes there). I kinda feel bad for how little I payed for it back there and how much joy it gave me so far (as opposed to many AAA games that have an absurd price and just feel dull on the inside, becoming boring after the first couple of hours). Thanks so much, Hinterland, you guys are amazing! Can't wait for the update to come out on the Xbox.

CD PROJECT RED as my fellow countryman fill me up with pride, but I don't see how to compare these two studios CDP RED is much bigger and I'm sure they get their credits . Hinterland is much smaller studio and does more outstanding job then most triple A studios, because most of them would make a cashgrab once they release release beta or not even get get out of early access and quit. Hinterland constantly updates their game with new features even when they really don't have to. Nowadays in the game business I would call that PRESTIGE lvl up every update they make, and as far they never let me down, so IMO they really deserve more fame and publicity than they have.

HZ Mike Of course they do. Hinterland made an amazing video game, not just that but they keep on releasing great additional content/great updates. I know CDPR and Hinterland cannot be trully compared since Hinterland is a much smaller studio. These are the only two studios that I entirely trust. I still like other devs like Hideo Kojima but these two are the most sincere and benevolent studios. Not trying to belittle Hinterland, quite the contrary, I'm just saying they are the most charitable devs out there.

When I saw a 1gb update for TLD qued up I got SO excited that it would be the cooking update! THANK YOU! I've been getting re-acquainted with this game for a few days hoping this update would be out soon, but I never expected it this soon! I'm so excited for this change!

The new cooking system seems really nice! I'll get back to The Long Dark to try it for sure. I got it since early-early access and there's always something new to make me go back to it :) If I had to make a suggestion, that would be to be able to hang a cooking pot over the fire (like crafting the setup with 3 branches). This would be more realistic than to put the food on nearby rocks, I think?

I could easily see that being an option when working with campfires, also maybe an option to make some sort of wilderness stew - I don't think we'll ever be harvesting any sort of winter vegetables (other than cattails), but putting some deer in with my pork and beans would be cool.

Like a very, VERY, rare NPC that you can find in a cave or town and barter with could be really cool. It would allow longer games to go on even longer because you could trade craftables and such for bulk food or something, etc; Especially for interloper this would be amazing to see if Hinterlands could figure out an amazing way to implement this.

I loved this game since it came out and seeing how you add new content makes me happy. The music tracks are very nice and fit the atmosphere as usual, the new region is a new experience as it has different elements as the older maps and I still love the auroras. They give you this eerie feeling that there are still people when actually everyone’s gone. So good luck with the development of TLD in the future, it’s one of the best (if not the best) survival games around.

This game deserves so much more attention and popularity because it is worked on so hard and the looks are stunning.I love how different it feels when you're exploring a house to when the aurora appears to a wolf barking at you, it's one of the only games I've played that actually make me feel different emotions all the time, it's amazing.Good job Hinterlands.

I had a pretty rough start to 2018 and escaping into The Long Dark pretty much kept me afloat till I got through it. The whole meditate aspect of the game is rare and mighty beautiful. Tis a truly breathtaking game and I'm so glad to see more content added. Thank you!

This should be from the start. You shouldn't have the possibility to carry too much without the sleigh but with it you could finally transfer your base in one or two goes.

That would only work if your poop was dry. You'd need to start a fire to warm the poop to dry it. also if you're on an mostly meat diet you'd not have enough fibre to make burnable poop. Maybe with deer & moose poop though.

Omg I fell in love with this game all over again!! The cooking element is amazing and so much fun. I love how even in that, there is a type of danger in over and under cooking the food. And how the water evaporates when it's over cooked. It's simply amazing. Kudos to you guys!♥️♥️ And I just have to say, this is honestly one of the most beautiful looking games I've seen. I can just gush all day about this game

Glad you guys are still so hard at work on this - I know full release wasn't TOO long ago, but the whole Early Access process before that as well, I hope that whatever you all are working on for the future is a great success.

I found this game a while ago on the PlayStation store, looked into it, bought it, and NEVER looked back. I. Love. This. Game. It is beautiful! Love too see you guys putting out quality updates! (I'm really looking forward to the implementation of basements!)

I've had this game since I got my xbox, so for a few years now. And I am so happy with how much it improves. There has not been one update I have been disappointed with. This game is beautiful and everything they add to this game contributes to its uniqueness and beauty. Keep up the amazing work

You guys rock. This game rocks. I've been playing it for over 2 years and I keep coming back to it. I know many others feel this way as well. Not many games are worth such attention, but yall at Hinterlands have done something special with The Long Dark. Keep rockin it.
