Thank you :) That is an interesting thought. I think being from Germany definitely helps with speaking elvish, because it is actually quite similar, when it comes to the pronunciation rules. Ofc the rolled "r" is not part of today's standard German anymore and only a dialect thing right now and we don't have the "th" sounds, which is always a bit difficult for Germans. That is a nice idea for a video. I put it on the list. I'm already in production of the next one, I also have at least one other lore topic on my list, that I want to do too. So it could take some time :D I think if you look at Old English (Rohan's language is actually Old English), you notice the germanic influences on the English language. E.g. It would be epic and like 10 movies. Alone Beren's and Lúthien's story. I just imagine the part were Beren "travels" over the Ered Gorgoroth with all its horros. Or the part where he fights against Morgoth's forces as one of his father's companions until the betrayal of Gorlim. It would be massive.

it would be a CGI shitshow like The Hobbit. iwould love to see it adapted well but The Hobbit trilogy made me lose faith in Peter Jackson.

i enjoyed the hobbit series even if they should have just left it broken into 2 movies and i didnt find most of the cgi to be of poor quality but it wasnt perfect but in my opinion it didnt detract from the hobbit movies

@aaronsdavis The book was a children's book with hardly enough content. The battle of 5 armies is just a chapter in the book and bilbo sleeps through all of it. I am really glad that Peter Jackson showed the Dwarves in an epic light, just like the Elves and made the hobbit seem like a part of the same universe as LOTR. The book Hobbit does not even compare to the LOTR novels.

Yes, I will try doing more LotR videos. A little problem is, that they are often a lot of work and need tons of research. So I have to find a balance, because I enjoy making other gaming related content too. But there will be more. Maybe if new details about Shadow of War will be released, I find a new topic. No problem :) Yes some details can easily get lost. E.g. I learned quite a bit, by editing my videos and marking the events on the map, so I got a really good understanding where things happened. Same with lineages. I hope that i can transport that in my videos too. haha yes I know. Several people hinted me that it's "built" :D Interestingly someone also wrote, that originally the past form was "builded", but it changed over time to "built". Still thanks for the hint. Sometimes I don't notice little mistakes like this, because I'm too focused on other things ^^

No problem. In one of your videos you mention Glorfindel as reincarnated from Gondolin. I totally agree. I also have also reckoned that Legolas is reincarnated from "Legolas Greenleaf of the House of the Tree" who died in the retreat from Gondolin (think he killed a balrog, don't remember). Gandalf calls Legolas "Legolas Greenleaf" which is what makes me think this. You have any thoughts on that? I'd be interested to see what you think.

I think Glorfindel was originally planned to take the role of Legolas, but Tolkien invented Legolas instead. I don't know if there was a connection planned, but Glorfindel also fought in Gondolin. From the perspective of published version they can't be related or the same person, because Thranduil (Legolas' father) was born at the end of the First Age or even in the Second Age. He is quite "young" so to say. It's extremely likely, that his son Legolas from Lord of the Rings was born in the Second Age or even in the Third Age, so it would not fit. However in theory it is possible, since to my knowledge there are only indicators and theories, but no given birth dates of Thranduil and Legolas, but as said it seems unlikely.

Yeah, I only thought they might be the same in a reincarnation sense. Pure speculation on my part but as you say, very unlikely. Thanks for replying. BTW I didn't know that Glorfindel was supposed to be Legolas. that's pretty interesting. I always felt that Glorfindel was a bit underused in the books but now I see why, and Legolas is a brilliant character.

Only one comment on one of the SoM/SoW videos. I agree Celebrimbor should be in HoM. There is one case in Silmarillion when Beren's companions are killed in a terrible way, and one of them appears to Beren as a wraith before he travels south to find Luthien. It would seem that men very rarely are not able to pass beyond the world in some extremely rare and fell cases. This would leave a possibility for Talion to be wraith while, but not for Celebrimbor to be called back from HoM by the servants of Sauron

Oh yes, Barahir's (and Beren's) companion Gorlim. I mention the story in my new "Who is Sauron?" video and I think in Shadow of Mordor you can find a skull, that references him. This would in deed be a possibility. But I think you could still argue, that Gorlim betrayed Barahir knowingly to Sauron ( and with this helping him), while Talion and Celebrimbor are actively opposing Sauron. Gorlim tried to warn Beren out of regret. Maybe he did not go to the Halls of Mandos, because of his regret and trying to warn Beren. It's definitely a strange and grim story, that is also very interesting. Good point!

I agree with you, John. I've read the books numerous times, just for the pleasure of the story, not getting too much into the rest. However, over the years I've, of course, had a few questions about various aspects ;-), just a few, which are getting answered in these amazing, in-depth videos of true-blue LotR scholarly fans! I had a very hard time with The Silmarillion back when it was first available and haven't attempted it again, but I will soon, as well as the other books on Middle Earth from the Tolkeins. I'm almost embarrassed and ashamed to say I haven't read those yet because I Love the stories sooo much from the very first reading of The Hobbit in 1971! Loved the movies, but I was annoyed with some of the changes that were made that were totally unnecessary, even for the sake of drama, but the films were amazing and well-done on so many levels. Just watched all of The Hobbit movies this past week for the first time, too. Wish I'd seen them in the theater (hopefully, they'll have another run some day). A lot of what went on were not in the books, and at least the story of Azog being hot for Thorin's head actually did add a dramatic twist though it wasn't in the book. The little love story between Kili and Tauriel, though, could've been left out, I think, though it's nice to have a little romance in a movie, but Not Here. Tolkein did not write romances, and Peter Jackson took too much liberty with that part, I think. Arwen and Aragorn were one thing, we knew they Loved each other so was fitting to elaborate on that. But Kili and Tauriel's romance is too much (there was no Tauriel in The Hobbit at all, if I remember right, so where did she come from? PJ's mind, apparently). Just MHO. Also the Azog twist worked well in the films in my opinion too (at least I can understand the change). I have my problems with the Hobbit trilogy, but I must say the Extended Edition adds some nice things and fill some wholes. The Simarillion is tough to read, even though it's really interesting and has some amazing stories in it, so I fully understand you ^^ Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I play all kinds of games, but never was into MMO RPGs. Not my genre. I played LotR Online for an hour or so, but could never really get into it. Thank you, glad my video was helpful ^^ I can recommend checking out some of my newer lore videos, as the quality went up over time in my opinion. no problem. This was one of my first lore videos I made 4 years ago; time moves fast 😅 Happy you liked it. I have neglected the Nazgûl a bit on my channel. I briefly talk about them in my very detailed book analysis (also book and film differences) series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qe-4l74B8mw.html You maybe have to look out for Nazgûl in the title (episodes work mostly as stand alones I think). To answer your question briefly: We don't know exactly who the Witchking is. Sauron (after he got most the Rings of Power back) gave 9 Rings to lords of Men (from Númenor and maybe one was a King of the Easterlings, but definitely an Easterling), and they got power through the rings too. Over time though they were slowly transformed into Wraith (Ringwraith -> Nazgûl) under the will of Sauron and the One Ring (int his form they are 100% under Sauron's will; they are undead ghosts you could say, that mostly exist in the Unseen). We know only the name of one of them Khamûl (also "the Black Easterling"). He must have been an Easterling (maybe a king). The others (three according to the Silamrillion) were likely Númenoreans that resided at Númenorean settlements on Middle-earth (Númenor is an Island where the Dúnedain lived once; they were pretty advanced and it can be compared to Atlantis). They first appeared Second Age 2251 (according to Appendix B in The Lord of the Rings; so roughly 3200 years before the events of LotR). As mentioned only 3 were Númenoreans + at least one Easterling. The remaining 5 could be other lords of Men maybe from the South (Haradrim) or even North (Northmen) or more Easterlings. We don't know. Khamûl was among the Ringwraiths 2nd in command. 1st was the Witchking. Who he was we don't know, but most likely a Númenorean from one of the mentioned settlements. The Númenoreans were later separated into 2 factions you could say: The King's Men and the Faithful. The Faithful were as the name suggests faithful to Eru (God) and his High Powers in Aman (Valar) (also friends of the Elves). The King's Men were on the side of the Númenoeran Kings, which over time more and more opposed Eru, the Valar and the Elves, because they were jealous of their immortality (and other things), though traditionally (at the beginning of Númenor's history) Númenor was devoted to Eru and the Valar and close friends with Elves, which helped them develop. (as explained in this video). It's now likely that the Witchking and the other who could have been Númenoran lords were Kings' Men too. We don't know. Later when Sauron was defeated at the End of the Second Age (through the Last Alliances) and fled into the far East, the Witchking became active at one point and took himself a realm North of Arnor (which split into 3 separate Kingdoms), which was called Angmar. Angmar assimilated one of them (Rhudaur you can find it on maps) and it basically became part of Angmar too if you want. In the end Arnor was destroyed, but Angmar too. And from this time the Witchking becme the Witchking of Angmar. His name and deeds suggests, that he had some powers (through the Ring of power and Sauron). E.g. he summoned the Barrow wights (weird evil spirits) to infest the Barrow downs, where some of the remainign Lords of Cardolan (once Arnor) hid and with this destroyed Cardolan completely. He appears of here and there again. he later conquers Minas Ithil for Sauron, which ten became Minas Morgul and he most likely killed the last King of Gondor Eärnur (challenged him to a duel and the King was never seen again). Ofc he was active during The Lord of the Rings too, etc. But that is all we know. I don't have a good theory who he might have been. He was definitely not a name we know from the lore in my opinion. Some lord maybe from Umbar (far to the south of Gondor).

I binge watch the Hobbit and LODR last weekend again, and I have a chat of my co workers who's a fan also and told me that there are many branch of the back story of that franchise so I started to research and saw your channel. Sadly most of his books weren't finish because it was not that famous in his time...

Yes at some point I red most of them. Some I read more often than others though and because it's so much I also forget details quite often again. Yes I can imagine. The later books (by Tolkien's son Christopher, who published his father drafts and notes in them) are not that well known and can be tough to read, if you don't know the main books (Hobbit, LotR + Appendices and The Silmarillion). The Silmarillion (LotR backstory the book) was also published posthumously by Christopher Tolkien, who basically composed it out of his fathers works too and finalized it. It should be available in all kinds of languages (I assume third most popular book). How canon it is, is often debated under Tolkien fans. Same goes for all the published notes. But with all of it, there is a ton of backstory. Translations of the 12 (13) History of Middle-earth books, Unfinished Tales, Letters, Great Tales etc are probably far more limited. I think only two of the 12 History of Middle-earth books even have e.g. a German translation. I have a lot of stuff on my channel, but the information density can be very high (e.g. the Who is Sauron or the History of the Elves videos; those cover basically all ages a a lot of lore in case you are interested).

Definitely watch all your videos(already subscribed:) ) whenever I have a time and started to search where I can buy Tolkiens books. So basically it is better to start to read The hobbit or can I jump to LOTR instantly? Kindly recommend me the chronological order of the books.:) Definitely wanted to know the story of Luthein and Beren. That would be interesting. ;) Tolkiens universe were amazing.yup. it really took a lot of time just to put it piece by piece..Thank God there's no technology in that time and they have more time to explore their imagination :)... The Silmarillion can be tough to read, it's a bit like the bible, but you need to know LotR to really understand the Silmarillion. The backstory of it gives LotR a lot more depth. After That I would say Unfinished Tales (and maybe the Great Tales), Letters of Tolkien, maybe Tolkien's LotR related poetry and the History of Middle-earth books last.
