The looper that tied my studio together: glou-glou Loupé

In which I demo the Looper that snuck its way into the heart of my setup, glou-glou Loupé. It bridges now the worlds of test equipment and synths, as well as enabling live remixing of whatever is on my mixing board. This guitar pedal is stereo, which makes it very useful for synthesizers, drum machines or even whole mixes. There are some odd design choices in here that curiously work for me (mostly).

For anyone wondering: the Loupé is beautifully stereo - PFL on my mixer is mono. So the L/R image gets lost due to that, and not the pedal.

This track might be my all time favorite of yours. The pitch shifting reminds me of Miles Davis' organ playing on the album Get Up With It, particularly the track Rated X, which is fitting considering the amazing demo video for the loupe using his song Lonely Fire.

Thanks for the demo. I'm a big fan of the EDP and the Loupé is clearly an advancement on that design with most of the same features, but in stereo, with effects and more. However... no midi or bluetooth (or at least USB) this day in age is a HUGE limitation. Even the EDP had midi. It's difficult to use one effectively without it. The Loupé is an awesome version one product. My hope is it evolves to include midi and modern data connectivity options. I'm all in when it does.
@reggiep75
@reggiep75 3 года назад
There needs to be an expanded of this version that would suit both floor and desktop use - more knobs, patch memory, capacity to swap out foot switches for switches more suited to hand operation and more chaos. Other than that it's pretty neat.

Is it possible to set the expression input to control the dry/wet of the FX? The sudden changes from dry to FX isn't how I loop usually and a nice fade in and out for everything is a must if I'm buying a new pedal.

Oh Wow! It figures something like this would appear after I purchased the CB blooper🤦🏻‍♂️. How would you compare the experience of the Loupèing to the Blooping?
@Hainbach
@Hainbach 3 года назад
Oh so different! Blooper is to me very much a "I don't know what is happening but it is happy surprises" and more immidiately "playable" by twisting knobs, Loupe starts out as a blank canvas for ideas that you can precisely tailor. Both are great for different things, and sound different. Blooper is both harsher and more intimate, Loupe is cleaner and more open. And mono vs. stereo.
@morningloopsbyplanalba838

Instead of PFL, use a subgroup. I do this all the time. I have two (stereo) subgroups. I use one for processing any set of signals, and the other for recording. I prefer this, in many ways, to multi-tracking. It turns me into an active "hunter/gatherer" of sound, and I don't get caught up in setting up tracks to record. I Just get it all into my audio recorder. Often a whole performance, and then if I have a lot of sounds, I just go down the line, one by one and record each one by bringing it in and out of the subgroup. I can now take my hour long session back to a daw and slice and dice it as needed. It keeps me in the flow. I find it hard to be a musician and a studio engineer/producer at the same time.
@Hainbach

Very nice looper and was really tempted to fork out the not so small sum for it. But then I noticed (user manual) that it doesn't have MIDI, and thus no chance for a future editor either. In it's price category that's a deal breaker and real shame for a machine with so much going for it.

@@Hainbach Always impressive to hear about these boutique companies being a single person. It must take a strong will to do this and much patience, next to all the crazy skills and creativity. However, I still think Olivier should have hired a designer. Émilie of Mutable is a single-person operation as well, but she hires a designer - and if you see her own early drafts of modules you know why having someone put your work into a good design matters.

@@vinylarchaeologist Aesthetics are, of course, very subjective. But, having worked with the Loupe for a while now, I have to say I've been increasingly impressed with just how well thought-out the design is, in terms of accessing functions. (This is especially noticeable when using the footswitches with one's feet.) You don't have to love the way it looks, but IMO, Olivier has done a great job of wringing maximum usability out of every square inch of this thing. :)
