Tinting assasin, lol, Literally using scrap from the 4 doors and hittin the line with it instead of buying a new roll for back window, saved me money with your genius.

I did this when I started, early 90s. No information was out there to help people learn. It was the beginning of me being able to do 1 piece rear windows.

I think my tint jobs done this way turn out better than the one piece jobs I do. Lol! I believe it has to do with the time frame we started tinting in. You’re right though, that’s the only way ya got this look back In the 90’sit looks better than the small roll stripped that’s for sure. Thanks for the confirmation of it’s still an option today to tint this way, Old School. Love your videos Ralph… 👍🏽

Actually the right way to make a seemed window look seemless is to cut the seem when it is inside of glass right along the bottom side of the defroster line from left to right.Pro installers with steady hands only need to try this method

Great video, very informative, especially in a market where you can only buy 50cm width rolls. I love your videos, but from now on I will be skipping the last few seconds. I cant stand how after all that effort you simply strip it away.

You make everything look so easy, and i know it's not. I'm about to give tinting a try on my 98 trans am with a sold rear tint precut. 😬 Back in the day i had a shop tint a rear window on a 95 firebird i had. I see now That guy obviously used this technic with decent results. just a hair of light about 1" long came through near a egde about midway up (along a defost line). Thing is he gave me the option to have it done in 1 or 2 pieces i choose 1 and was charged extra $$ for 1 piece film. Now after all these years i realize i got squeezed! 😂

Last time I did this was in 1990. Thanks for bringing us back. 83 LeBaron and no money to pay for a screw-up. I remember even sticking the fake cell phone antenna right in the middle top. This was back when you’d tell these idiots to not use the defroster for a few days. Tint was shit back then. Especially Secret Zone!

Maybe a silly question, but what's the difference between automotive glass tint film and home windows glass tint film?
@dirrtyfurby
@dirrtyfurby 2 года назад
Heat absorption vs a dual reflective film for home and commercial. Using auto tint on certain commercial and residential windows can crack the glass holding in heat

Reason the film is not the same exact shade on both sides is due to the setup that the operator has chosen to run the machine, raw film is rolled off by a series of pressure nips that keep the film pulled tight through the whole machine, this is called the web. so as the film runs through the weeb it is pulled through a hot dye bath and then multiple water boxes to wash excess dye from the film, then is goes through a series of gas ovens and then it is rolled back into a roll at end of machine. now at those nips throughout the machine they all have been set to different pressures to keep the film running straight and so it doesnt back up or crease while being processed, the nip pressure most often are at different pressures on both end which makes one side of the film slightly darker than thee other, this also is same reason that the film shrinks as it does on films. there is alot more to it but thats a quick run down for you on why both edges are not same

Wouldnt it be easier to splice on the inside- then your two pieces will exactly be aligned ?
@FlexFilmPlus
@FlexFilmPlus 6 лет назад
PhD05 Possibly but if you factor in that I am old and fat... Not really. You can get it to match perfectly either way and you will not risk cutting the defrost line.
@dizzidecalz
@dizzidecalz 6 лет назад
Ralph Van Pelt - that’s a good point :) I too am on the fluffy side - and I actually am pretty interested in your technique here. I’ve often contemplated doing two piece installs for curvy windows which I seem to always crease the film on the edges
@DekGT5mad
@DekGT5mad 4 года назад
Alot of the current films leave a line in the adhesive where the film overlaps if you splice on the inside that looks like you scored the glass
@dannymartinez8314
@dannymartinez8314 5 лет назад
I don't really get why you would splice window tint, other then you working with what you got, a lot of people keep saying, why not splice it from the inside, well if you did from the inside, you risk the chance of cutting into the rear defroster, then your rear defroster would not work anymore.

Ralph, you're showing outdated obsolete techniques long lost to dark side. They should remain there.
@dannymartinez8314
@dannymartinez8314 5 лет назад
Mark Porter not so, sometimes you might come to a situation which that technique is required even though it's outdated put it in your repertoire for safekeeping when it's needed, don't dog the techniques that bring the techniques you use now, its better to be wise than ignorant,not that are, but something I always heard elders say.
