I'm born and raised in Colorado and have yet to ride my state's premiere bikepacking trail...until now! The Colorado Trail is 540 miles (867km), has 72k feet (22k meters) of vertical gain, and travels from Denver to Durango. In this video, I ride the beauiful Lost Creek Wilderness Detour, and meet some awesome people on the trail.

Now THAT is a camping spot! Love your meeting with the guys. When I was finishing high school, I hiked the Appalachian Trail through Shenandoah National Park with a friend. It was my first big adventure, and more years ago than I would ever want to acknowledge. Seeing myself so many years ago in those guys with their excitement and sense of adventure was awesome and so nostalgic. I had many more adventures over the next decade or so after that, but life got in the way. I'm getting close to retirement now and trying to get back into those little adventures, albeit less challenging. I am not even close to being in the physical condition necessary to tackle anything quite so difficult as the Colorado Trail, as much as I wish I was. And perhaps at my age, I never will be again. But one doesn't need to have high elevation and massive vertical feet to have adventure. You've inspired me. So much so that, for the past few years, I have taken to riding my bike to commute to work. I'm at work now in fact... don't tell anyone! Rode 12 miles to get here. Even that little commute is a daily little adventure in itself. Rain, Sunshine, Wind, Cloudy Days, always different, and always relaxing. Moral of the story? Get out there. And it doesn't have to be the Colorado Trail or a cross country trip. It can even be a daily commute to work! Love your videos. Keep them coming!

Any bike rides I do that are over 50 miles, I reward myself with a mile swim and a 1/2 hour butt soaking in the jacuzzi. would like to post my rides on youtube but my gopro only lasts about 2 hours and the battery dies so I just take pics and post them on facebook. Love your videos of places that I won't be able to visit and makes me want to bike where I can so I do that. NO CRASHIES, NO WHAMMIES AND NO FLATTIES!!!

First of all, the Stage Stop! I owned property about 5 miles from there and lived in the area for 15 years. I could tell you stories about what all went on in that place, lol :) The Hayman fire; it was so tragic and it's a testament to how long it takes a forest to grow back. I drive down 67 fairly frequently to get in some hiking. My favorite state park so far is Mueller (haven't visited every state park yet but plan on it!). If you haven't biked or hiked there yet Ryan, I highly recommend it! Really enjoyed this episode as I'm familiar with the areas you biked thru and it brought back some good memories!

Been watching your videos for some time now and they keep getting better with your drone footage, gravel tire sounds and great interviews with the characters on the trail. How do you find the time and resources to do all this editing in post? Great work. BTW - I rode the trail 2 years ago and I got a chuckle at 19:25 when you said you were going to ride 8,000 -10,000 feet of elevation a day and get used to it. Ha ha good luck.

Great filming as always Ryan! OMG I would be so scared of those bears. I don’t think I would sleep at night. We don’t have them in England. I think your Mum was worried about you when you set off because of those bears in Colorado. At the end of your ride, please could you put a link to the device that you use to send a quick text to loved ones to let them know you are safe in remote areas where there is no signal/service. Also will be interested to hear how you got on with the backpack. Did it hurt your back after a while? What did it weigh? Look forward to the next episode.

Ryan, I have a question/suggestion. Do you ever use the drone as a tripod for ride byes? Seems like you could fly the drone ahead, have it hover and track you as you pass then have it return, saving the whole running back for the tripod thing. I've watched a lot of cycling videos and haven't seen it done, and I can't imagine why the manufactures don't have a mode for this. Thanks
@Se0what
@Se0what 3 года назад
Hey there! I'm not Ryan but recently just finished a trip along the coast and literally did just that! However this model of drone, the mini 2 (the same one I use), does not have that capability. You can kind of use their pre-built in pre sets but it's a bit tough and the holder for the phone is always rock solid. So I would fly it, ride, fly it to me. Rinse and repeat.

Loving the great hot and dry weather you are cycling in - especially after my cycling today going through heavy rain after heavy rain argh. I had a brilliant time and I wouldn’t have missed the challenge for a little rain 🤣 Only downside is getting wet sand/loam in the chain on my Koga Bike with Rohloff. Do you have that problem with the Gates belt?

What is your opinion on it as I was thinking of using this method to replace my water bottle all be it on short distances not more than 50KM. Does the water get hot in the warm weather and is it uncomfortable to wear? Maybe you can make a blog on this subject?

I have to say it's so great to see younger people actually pick up the joy of being active. Personally I've always been active, but I'm almost more active now being 40 years old, and to me it's just something I would never change for anything. Right now my bike is just dead weight because my brakes are shot, so have to wait for some new one's and so on, but I still got my legs and some shoes.

In total, 600 structures were lost (133 residences, one commercial building, and 466 outbuildings), causing more than $42 million in housing losses. A total of 5,340 people were forced to evacuate; at one time, 14,000 were told to stand by for evacuation.
