I had my son read a lot of Steinbeck for his homeschooling. At one point he said "Geez, would it kill him to write a story with a happy ending?"

"Nobel Prize?" "Yeah, it's a prize given in Sweden -- never MIND!" I love Bobby.

He didn’t really hide much from him though. He straight up told him the mice was dead and that the people in weed thought he assulted that girl. He even told him that he keeps doing bad things

My English teacher junior year had a rule that you had to read the last chapter of the book in class. So we all get there, expecting a nice happy ending, and then we read through the chapter. Even some of the boys started to cry. It was just a classroom of crying teenagers (myself included) and us barraging the teacher with the question, “Why did we have to read this?!” I cried a lot when I read that.

I'm currently a sophomore in high school and we JUST finished reading the book and watching the movie. This skit made me really happy for some reason xD

The book has such a sad ending, it's a classic sure. But fair warning if you haven't read most of the classic books then you're in for alot of crying.

Here's a connection: James Franco starred in this sketch in 2008. 8 years later he would play Jake Epping in the TV-series adaptation of Stephen King's 11/22/63. In the book, Jake Epping as a English teacher has his drama class star in "Of Mice and Men".

Haven't read this in a while, but in the actual story he doesn't really lie to Lenny that much. The ranch he's gonna raise the rabbits on is a real ambition, George's faith that they will actually make that happen, fluctuates. Pretty sure Lenny knows he killed that mouse and those people.

James Franco fits George perfectly.

When we were learning and reading Of Mice and Men, my junior year of highschool English, our teacher let us watch and talk about this sketch right after it cameout, for half a period and we were clowning for the rest of the class and talked about a play about, I was the most baked I've ever been that day, haha it was chill, shout-out to Mrs. Plummer

I remember watching this when it first aired and my roommate and I were cracking up. I'm 99% it was the first sketch that Bobby Moynihan was in, it was the last sketch of the episode, and it was the first episode of the season.

I’ve been watching a lot of these new episodes, I can’t get over how noticeable it is that they’re looking at cue cards.

Fun fact: I read this in my 10th grade class and we were tasked with writing one final chapter that concludes the events of the book. So I decided to turn the story into a survival horror story. We learn that the real reason that George killed Lennie was because Curly paid him handsomely. But the task wasn't over, for as we learn... George was paid to kill everyone. Soon, more bodies fall. First Carlson. Then Whit. Then Candy's new dog. Not believing the rumors, the boss confronts Curly...only to be doubled up on with George, and soon his own suffering was over. Crooks dies next, but not before putting up a fight that superficially injures George. Candy sacrifices himself by blowing himself and Curly up. Finally, with no where else to turn and facing imminent death from George, Slim is able to read from the Necronomicon. Out of nowhere, hundreds of spirits of dead rabbits congregate to George and swirl around him, tearing his flesh and ending his life. The day is won...but for how long? My teacher was less than impressed. I was given a C+.

It was nice to hear James Franco say "nobel prize" again.
