@Agedplatto aw man really? Wow blockland is even more nostalgic i havent heard of that in years. But that map is definitely the roblox map it even has the R on all the studs
As a F2P vet starting in 2012, one of my biggest regrets is not playing Wacky Races while it was popular. The fact you're not even mentioning it is a testament to how long ago this was... Today, there's only one map running it in the entire server browser and this map is perpetually empty. I agree with the conclusion, enjoy what you have until it's gone! _♬ GIMME SOME JUNKIES TO EAT ♬_
I think Slender Fortress is quite good actually, in a different way though. I find it incredibly impressive for someone to make a survival horror game inside TF2, and it does work. You have to be cracked at Source engine coding to pull it off.
You gotta be cracked at slender fortress. Their is a method. I have survived many times. Theres just nothing out there in the quanity that slender fortress brings. And hey. You can spectate or chill out with the boys in the amazingly comfortable lobbys.
Hey, this is the person who commissioned the Passtime_Probowl map. I really appreciate you showing it off. I honestly thought that it would be forgotten to the Steam Workshop as a whole, but I'm happy that you and others actually enjoy it. Some fun facts I will let you know about it though, the sound effects for the ambient cheering are sounds recorded from Tecmo Super Bowl 3, and the touchdown/field goal sound bytes are from Tecmo Super Bowl 1 on the Super Nintendo. Genuinely good games that I felt would befit the football aesthetic of the arena.
OH MY GOD SO AWESOME! Your map is so simple yet so effective i wish more servers where running it 😭 😭 I have like 10 minutes worth of clips of me and my friends screaming over insane touchdowns
5:15 i learned that this server actually counts kills that the train has gotten and treats it like a strange weapon. at the time of writing this comment it has 2024 kills and has the rage-inducing rank, i want people to get this train to hale's own by the end of the year
I actually heard of TF2 from a Slender Fortress video. I downloaded the game and joined a server, and was very confused when I found a FPS game, but I still loved it and still play years later
*Not Lost. Just Fade Away. seniors & Veteran players from the past know well. So on behalf of the veteran, I want to say to everyone: don't forget the maps and gamemodes from the past. Because there really is such a thing as humor. And Masterpieces.*
I used to play on one called "balloon race," two zeppelins went around the map and the first one back to the start won. Haven't seen a non-empty server in years.
One game mode I really miss is multi-rocket dodgeball. The only dodgeball servers left these days only have a single rocket, and you inevitably spend 90% of each game sitting around waiting for the two sweatiest tryhards on each team to screw up. Everyone got something to do in multi-rocket dodgeball, and it was actually FUN. God I miss it.
A niche game mode I end up playing a lot is called Boss vs Boss. To my knowledge only one server has it, but just imagine a bunch of FF2 bosses fighting each other, with an occasional entire server versus one super boss. Really hectic, not for everyone, but definitely unique. Plus constant reworks, updates from a dedicated team to it in a discord.
3:29 I wasn't expecting FortWars to show up, let alone on my server and a map I made for it. FW is an old game mode from late 2010 that ran its course until Meet-Your-Match killed community servers. There were dozens of servers running it until then, and most of the time you would have to wait until a slot opened. IIRC Skial had 3 different FW servers at one point, same with GamersHell. Unfortunately, its one of the game modes were it gets more fun the more people join yet its rare to get more than 3 people on at a time.
I remember a memory of a game where i was a MVM robot against a normal merc team. I do not remember much but it was the time when the choose gamemode/maps were on paper (paper and there were sketches on it like the rocket map)
I remember the delivery, I had some fun but it was horribly balanced, also in tower defense we got to level 65, it's actually kinda easy, get aoe engineer as early as possible, also the island map is way easier since its small and open so this also probably helped
"Fort wars is a new gamemode" Fort wars has existed for *years* though, hasn't it? I remember playing it a ton back in 2014 & 2015, it was a ton of fun building forts and invading each other's while defending your own; slowly everything would fall apart as people blast each other's creations to pieces but it was wonderful And for Underground war, you probably could've guessed from the graphics but it was originally a really popular Roblox map
You forgot Robot Destruction which was a gamemode that only 1 map had which was called Asteroid. Added in 2014. Removed in 2016, and now we can only play it on private servers and community servers.
Man I remember a time when it was pretty easy to just hop into a full Fortwars server. Spent hours just dicking around making fun forts and all. It dying down so much is one of the big reasons why I stopped playing TF2 as much as I used to.
"Lost Gamemodes"? I think "Hidden Gamemodes" or "Hidden Gem-modes" would be more appropriate. Great job highlighting these servers and community game modes!
Thanks for mentioning zombies escape since its one of the game modes I'm most familiar with. I will say tho, the worst maps are the ones with bosses on them, which is pretty clear on your end
I just recently found out about this channel and holy shit are you a breath of fresh air. I haven't laughed this much from a tf2ber since STAR and Jerma. Thanks for some enjoyable content you British bastard.
The background music choices here are impressively chad like of you Party Pug, keep this up and I might subscribe! EDIT: I won’t subscribe until you go over Uber Upgrades, but make sure it’s a HappyLand server, OR any other server that isn’t max money/orange tower map lol, those other two suck. If you want the fucking time of your LIFE (and are playing with other people, which is a must) Uber Upgrades is a need to do off the bucket list!
Best TF2 gamemode is Murder in the Manor, hands down Small community who plays, usually just regulars but I've been playing it for years and still love it
the death grips earned you a sub this video brings me back to 2016 where id play tf2 on my shitty laptop I remember playing most of these at least once
I remember back in 2016 the community game mode I used to play the most was Parkour Fortress or smth like that. No idea if it's still alive, haven't checked. It probably is since it wasn't in the video but I wanted to mention it just in case, great times
I remember once playing TD with a friend. After 5 attempts we got the synergy and made it pretty far together. He had to hop off and I held on till wave 58. We were so close to wave 65 (the last one). It’s on of my favorite game modes , just difficult to get into servers. Half of them don’t work anymore.
Zombie Escape is actually pretty fun sometimes. ZE has a been a long-running gamemode among source games, primarily Counter Strike: Source, and skial (among a couple others) adapted it for TF2 to put an interesting twist on it. It changes up the whole zombie holdout concept in interesting ways instead of you just trying to cheese some spot to holdout till zombies eventually break through, and some of the map designs and boss fights are really fun. Man, though, I really miss when it was easy to find a populated TF2ware server, and I also really miss both Wacky Races and Balloon Race :(
Hey! I remember playing Blackwonder's take on hidden, it was amazing back then since it had quite a few people playing and there was soo much to learn about playing as and against hidden.
Underground war. My god. Do you have any idea how long it's been since some people have seen that place? That's an oldschool roblox map you know. The time when the delete tool made an explosion noise, that's how old.
Wow, I've never even heard of some Team Fortress 2 community mods in the video. In general, the most played; Saxton Hale, Zombie Escape, Class Wars and Dead Run.
I played two excellent community gamemodes the first one is zombies escape which is completely different, a group of players turns infected while the rest tries to get to the finish whether it is a boat or a helicopter and the other one is a mvm story starting in the red spawn and eventually killing the whoever is responsible.
Shame that most of those servers are dead expect for the tower defence which is always full ( 4/4 capacity) and when u finally got in then it restarts after 5 minutes of playing and is again full.
Fun fact: the map used for the gamemode is actually from a roblox game and that is called The Underground War as you can expect and its made by a some group named zGames
Pass_Probowl was made by a friend of mine. Small world. Speaking of lost gamemodes, though, have you heard of Pipeball? It was a custom gamemode from around 2009-2010, with a few simple maps, completely designed by one guy. The gamemode is exactly what it says on the tin-- a massive ball comes out of a pipe in the center of the map, and your team needs to push it into the enemy goal. He was working on a massive final map that got stuck in development hell for nearly a decade (from 2014-ish to 2022), during which the gamemode was basically forgotten by the community. I stumbled upon it a few years back and made by own Pipeball map, Canyon, for an April Fools mapping contest. It was received really well, so much so that it inspired Pipeball's original creator to finally finish his ultimate Pipeball map, Ultra! When Ultra was first released, almost everyone who playtested it HATED it, and told him to look at my map to see Pipeball "done right". Nutso-levels of disrespectful, but it was pretty funny to hear.
