Sometimes such mistakes simply happen, don't worry too much. Great the way you dealt with it and absolutely prefessional to reupload a corrected Cornbrook 4!

Got the engine out and repaired the road in proper fashion, sharp contrast too today, where after all the paperwork is filled out and environmental impact studies done, a long time, the job gets done.

Cracked me up when James was loading the plate for Roy and he said ‘don’t take the piss’ 😆 It’s great that the accuracy of the history is so important to you guys that corrections need to be made to put it right. Thats one reason I love this channel. 👍

Ya may have gotten one wrong, but that's not bad odds considering how much everything has changed there over the years, all the Victorian streets & housing long gone, it's like another world there now. You've done some proper detective work matching old maps & photos with how places are today, keep up the fantastic work, and thanks for the nutty.😜

I think the Gartsides in question was the brewers, later to become Bents Gatrsides. IIRC Bass later got hold of them and closed them down maybe late 60'- early 70's? There is still some low relief branding on a pub in Old st, AUL at the lights near the theatre. (Forresters Call?).

The description in the newspaper article says that the funnel of the engine was only just showing above the level of the road. This does not tally with the photograph - where far less of the vehicle has fallen through. (Or perhaps the engine dropped down further after the picture was taken, or the journalist was using a bit of poetic license?) The newspaper article and the photograph could relate to different incidents? Maybe this happened all the time and was an occupational hazard for the dear old engine drivers - not surprising given that a traction engine weighed around 20 tons!
