Thankyou for making use of Stereo (left and right speaker) for the Mario sound effects. It was a treat to the ear and brought a smile to my face! I was using headphones and it was just lovely.
I haven't seen this game covered much! Thank you for looking into it! I would've loved to have this come out on the CDI. I never would've played it, but it's the thought that counts!
Thanks for sharing where to play this interesting and I'm sure awesome game and yeah actually that affiliate for the discounts on the games also sounds useful can't wait for the next video!
Would be awesome if a fan project would take the game and finish it. Of course they have to program a new engine and just add in the access. It could become a cool fan project.
Absolutely wild! I've only seen still shots of this before. I had no idea there was an actual playable version. I hope fans can complete it somehow. To think the Playstation was once going to be a Nintendo system.
They messed up. Or did they? I love Nintendo. I love Mario. I also love PlayStation and Xbox.... What ended up happening.. made games better. Competition always makes the other (x) better usually. At the end, one usually prevails as king.
I wish Nintendo would make new 8bit and 16bit Mario games. They could release them as digital only for like $10 and would sell. Do something like Sonic Mania. Sonic Mania is my favorite Sonic game outside of Sonic 2.
Super mario world will always be one of the best video games ever. Prolly my favorite game of all time. Mario 3 is up there, donkey kong country, original mario of course, i like mario 2 a lot as well, mario kart, i liked yoshis island a lot as well and E.T. for atari is mad fun as well.
A pseudo-sequel, not a true sequel since Nintendo had no involvement in it's development whatsoever. It looks like it would have been the best game to come out of the whole Phillip's deal if finished and released. I totally agree that some may have actually bought a CD-I for it, although they would have needed some good marketing so that people knew it existed. Yoshi's Island was never titled SMW2 in Japan. Myself and many others believe that's because it was never made to be a sequel to SMW. I think they tagged the "SMW2" title onto it for overseas releases strictly for marketing reasons. They probably figured they could sell more copies that way. Same reason why Squaresoft titled their initial "Saga" games on the Game Boy as "Final Fantasy Legend". I really don't think that tacking on SMW2 made much difference though. Yoshi alone was more then enough to sell the game, not to mention the fantastic gameplay and absolutely gorgeous graphics that look just as good today as they did in 1995.
Pretty impressive proto for six weeks of work! I dumped the v 0.11 9/8/93 (177) SMWW Prototype back in 2002. (I also worked for Philips USA (Tennessee) from 1991-1994. I am curious which other two SMWW prototypes were dumped? This is the first I've heard of that. Are there any more levels accessible? I made quite a few old videos of which levels which playable, back in 2005 (iirc), but they were uploaded to Google Video, and then lost to them. I have been meaning to edit together a new video from all of those videos and upload it to my RU-vid channel, but I'm not even sure it's worth the trouble anymore. Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say hello. :) -MattH
@@gameoverguy7223 For Super Mario's Wacky Worlds? I've only ever seen the one - v 0.11 9/8/93 (177). This is the one that Frank Cifaldi obtained from a Philips employee, and sent to me to dump it. I'm not saying their is another prototype, but if so, I'm curious if it's different, more playable? Etc..
I think I remember this unreleased Super Mario World 2 game, I think it was called Mario's Wacky Worlds. That was on the Phillips CDi and would have been better off if the SNES CD happened.
If only Nintendo hadn't quashed this stellar title in favor of partnering with Sony on their failed PlayStation and the dismal Yoshi's Island, Phillips wouldn't have gone onto dominating the next several decades of console gaming with their iconic Gwimbly's Quest series of record smashing titles
The Nintendo playstation was a sony+nintendo project, as was the later snes cd. sony were secretly delivering prototype playstation devkits at the same time the final documentation for the snes cd was produced, the project was cancelled when news hit Nintendo. No philips project ever seemed to actually produce anything, but the agreement to allow philips to use nintendo assets remains. The cdi was kinda bad though, so dont expect any thing good sould have come out of it
Somebody didn’t watch the video before commenting lol. This is an UNFINISHED GAME THAT GOT CANCELED DURING PRODUCTION, yes it’s missing animation frames, hit boxes, and everything else that you’d see in a fully completed project.
Eh this doesn’t feel like a sequel but more like a spinoff. The CDI had a ton of Nintendo spinoffs (all of them god awful). Had this game come out? It would’ve been likely just as awful as the rest. Even from that demo/work in progress it exhibits some of the same problems as the othrr spin off games, odd graphics, and some seriously Jenkee character movement. That Sony Nintendo CD attachment though… oh boy did they not learn anything from Sega? People don’t want add-ons, they don’t want their console to have so many wires it looks like it’s on life support. They just want straight up consoles.
When they started the project, nobody knew the Mega CD would be a (relative) failure. But, honestly, I'm glad the CD add-on never saw the light of day. I enjoyed my Super Nintendo as it was
