What a great story. I'll bet the old tractor felt ALIVE being able to do some work again. And I wouldn't change a thing about it . Leave it just as it is . Restoring it would ruin it and the story .I love that old man too! You can see the joy in his heart.

I would leave it as it is. True testament of it's buried history! Bloody thing still smokes less than my Landy after ten years in a fookin' bog!!

What a wonderful project. Respect to all involved. I had the great pleasure to drive a Fordson Major recently, similar to the one my grandfather would have farmed with after the war. It instantly showed me the advances in tractor engineering today but I still hanker for the FM and her cute little eyes/headlamps. She had real character. God bless from Norfolk England

No expensive garage or mechanic to do the work all DIY or get in contact with the son of yerman we bought the new bull from is the normal thing that we do if the bits can be made at home well sure that is best way and use the money for paint or whatever else

We used to start an old Fordson Major using a rope wrapped round the pulley & then pulling it to kick it into life.

Hi I like old engines First thjought was a Nuffied but that would have had studs for head bolt all unf thread nightmare David Brown prob a good shout We built an old fordson petrol tvo at collage loads of fun be mello nice one

There's an old iron wheeled tracker in a swamp south west of Seneca, Illinois, could see the stack for years Someone should dig it up.

The air filter on that David Brown looks just like the one on My Armstrong Siddeley 10 hp Diesel stationary engine. They must have been common.

I did wonder what it was. I saw David on the engine block so guessed David Brown. You have confirmed that.

course her would just alter timing a bit and set injectors up. no electrics hardly to go wrong. i like the new ones dont get me wrong but the older ones will outlive the new ones

Yes but if they keep it on firm ground and not out on those soft bog fields(whatever they're called)there's little need for duals.

The tires that were on it when it was dug up were in better shape than that. They must have put older tires back on it.

I think it's a David Brown 30C, the 880 didn't come out until 1961. The front was more square on the 880. This one is very rounded.
