I remember when I had my lunchboxes! It was cool! having the thermos an the box with my favorite characters. This was an excellent video. I had no idea of the history of these metal "wonders." :)
My Kindergarten lunchbox was Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers in 1990. Mother gave it away by the time I was 10, but somehow, someway, I found it again at a local flea market two years ago. It was the exact same one I carried back then because it still had the Highlights Magazine dinosaur sticker inside of it that I put there.
My first lunch box was the Fall Guy lunch box shown at 2:22. I still have it (despite being rusted on one side really bad) complete with thermos and it is on display in my man cave to this very date. It was the only metal lunchbox I ever had. After that I got a blue plastic GIJoe lunchbox which didn't compare in quality to the metal one. A friend of ours gave me the metal E.T. lunchbox in excellent condition and it sits right along side my Fall Guy one. Memories how they linger!!!
I'm Spaniard, and here the lunchbox thing is an unknown phenomenon (in fact, I discovered this word through the eponymous song by Marilyn Manson). Thanks for the documentary!
I had the metal GI Joe, one. It sat in the upper shelf of our kitchen cupboard for ages until I was probably in highschool or my dad ended up using it for something else because it was a metal box. In my mind's eye I can still see it sitting on that shelf.
My Mom did the exact same thing. In a small kitchen cupboard over the sink. Tucked to one side was my grey "Roger Rabbit" lunchbox, next to the tupperware!

Nice little episode! My first one was The Incredible Hulk TV show. Wish I still had it but I remember they didn't hold up too well and would rust out pretty easily.
lol at that Aladdin ad. "The new idea people, thermos-wise" - what a specific thing to "brag" about. Don't ask us about any _other_ ideas; we're only focused on thermos'. What liars too, considering they made lunchboxes :P Man, I can't even remember my old plastic lunchboxes from the'90s. I remember that, by high school, I had insulated lunch _bags_ by companies like Igloo, but that's no fun. Also I just had money to buy lunch at that point. Really wish I could recall what lunchboxes I had as a little kid now... I just remember one of them being blue. Maybe it was Spider-Man? I mean, the Fox Kids cartoon was on around then, that lines up. I feel pretty good about that as a guess.
My first lunch box I had when I was in kindergarten was light blue and had the Care Bears on it. My friend had a metal Transformers one I was so jealous of. I later traded in my Care bears for metal one that had Gizmo from Gremlins.
The Dragon's Lair lunchbox looks cool with a display I haven't seen before for the characters. Cool! Some very nice boxes, thanks! I had a Pac-Man style lunch box as a kid. But then switched to paper bags too. Less to carry back home as the main advantage. But these could be good collectibles. $13,000+ for the Superman box, that's great.
I don't get a chance to comment on every video but I do hit the thumbs up on every video and recommend you I really really enjoy your videos especially the way you present them thank you so much for all your hard work and great editing, I look forward to each and everyone that comes out see you on the next one
The only Metal Lunch Box I ever had is the "Fallout" themed one, from the Fallout 3 Lunch Box Edition. Still have it sitting on display, with the Vault Boy Bobblehead and some Nuka Cola Caps next to it.
My first and only tin one was Land of the Lost, then a plastic E.T. and a plastic M.A.S.K. box. The thermos is still stained with spaghetti Os. I think it still smells like them, but I'm pretty sure all I smell is memories.
I only vaguely remember my first licensed character lunchbox. I think it was either Masters of the Universe (before the Satanic Panic) or Transformers.
1978, mom unsupervised, got me a bee gees lunch box, i pleaded my case against this, to deaf ears. she would not budge, would not return it, and not let me use paper bags instead... mom proclaimed but the cool kids like the bee gees.... ..i did not believe her, that lunch pail got squished, smacked, crunched, i would bowl with it, anything to end its life early..... to this day she says, if you ask her "why mom ...why?" all you get is..."i would never do that to you, i don't remember that..." i really miss my space 1999, Evel Knievel, scooby doo, lunch pails.. ...... the bee gees, oh hell no.
I might get one as an adult now. when I was a kind in the 1980s in NYC my family was too poor to afford one. (and also I was getting free school lunch so really no point in bring in a lunch box) but all the other kids have one except me :(
