A few years after they released this, they put out a Lutheran edition of the apocrypha. I just purchased one and have been reading through it. Lutheran said that it was not equal to the Bible but still very useful information.

I’ve been looking into Martin Luther, Lutheranism and The Reformation and was wondering about this bible. So glad you did a review of it. Thank you!

Kennedee Hartford It is a really neat Bible. I had no idea I’d like it as much as I do, I like or so much that I bought an imitation leather regular size edition. I’ve had a lot of people tell me that it’s their favorite study Bible and this is all from people who aren’t even Lutheran and they all love this Bible. So that says a lot. I have been very impressed with it. It’s on my nightstand as we speak and I’ll be reading from it tonight. If you’re considering getting one I don’t think you’d be disappointed. It’s a keeper! Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it!

I’m not Lutheran but this looks like a pretty neat Bible. It’s cool of you to share this with people that requested it. It’s interesting enough that I’ll look into it. Your channel is a blessing sister. Great review. I’m gonna look up that Lutheran seal, that is intriguing.

yeah I found this one to be pretty interesting. I like all the prayers in it. I don't know anything about Lutheranism but I know people who are Lutheran and have viewers who are so after being asked several times I figured I'd look into one. I think the seal is pretty cool after researching it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

That is neat. I watched the documentary about him on 10/31/19 which was the 502nd anniversary of the reformation and it was interesting, I enjoyed it. This is a neat Bible and I like the prayers in it and it was interesting to look up and learn about the Lutheran seal/rose. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate you very much!

I have family members that are Lutheran and I am going to share this video with them cause I do not think that the use a Study Bible but just the same Bibles their church uses in the pews so this would be a tremendous blessing to them, I honestly had no idea this Bible even existed. Boy they have some pretty cover options too! I’m excited to show this to them. I might just buy a duo tone one for myself, that Luther Rose one is pretty. Thank you for sharing this sister 🌹

Thank you for sharing it with your family members. I hope they will like it. I know some Lutheran people and they have not heard of this Bible before either. And I also was impressed by how many cover options they have available. I listed several in the description box and there’s even more than that and they also have some nice covers for them as well which is pretty neat. I found the Lutheran Seal/Rose to be very interesting too. Now I just need to learn how to use a lectionary cause I have no idea on that part of it. I’ll have to see if there’s some videos out there that walk you through it. Thank you for watching and commenting and always being so nice. I appreciate you sister.

Yeah it really a neat Bible, I’ve been impressed with it. I’m going to have to learn how to use the lectionary so I can check that part of it out but I like the layout and the way they did the notes. It is a great one for any christian library and I’ve had people say it’s their favorite study Bible and they’re not even a Lutheran so that say a lot about it too. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate you my friend.

The Lutheran Lectionary follows the church year. As an example, this coming Sunday is the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost, so the Gospel reading is Luke 20:27-40. Hope this helps?

This is a wonderful review, and thank you for doing it! I didn't see any comments, so if it's helpful, the way the Lectionary works is that it's a daily reading program where you read the entire Bible in order of specific theological and historical themes, lessons, etc., and it's broken up so that you do it in small chunks over the course of a cycle. There should be a 1 year and a 2 year cycle in there. Anyway, thanks again, and God bless!

Off Shelf Book Reviews this is a really neat Bible. The notes layout is done very well and I like that it has a lot of prayers too. I am really enjoying this one and lately I’ve been using study Bibles more and reading all of the notes and it’s been fun to slow down and really look at everything on the page. This is a great Bible. I am impressed with it. Thank you for watching.

Hello Sister! Thank you for doing this review. I have this Bible, although I am not Lutheran. I have the regular size print in the genuine leather. The cover is a bit stiff but very sturdy and I like the grain pattern. I agree with you about the thinness of the paper and the ghosting problem, but the upside to that is I LOVE how crinkly and crunchy the paper is, and what it sounds like as I leaf through the Bible and turn the pages! That may sound silly, but it’s one of the reasons I enjoy this Bible. The other thing is the NOTES in the Bible! Oh, they are delicious notes, even if I am not a Lutheran! There are the ESV notes plus the Lutheran-specific notes about the Law, the Sacraments, the Trinity, etc., and my edition includes brief prayers right in the notes, usually just a line or two. It’s kind of funny but I love this Bible so much that it makes me wish I were Lutheran so I could utilize this Bible more! Lol. Out of my 120+ Bibles, this is one of my top 5. Great Bible and great review. I encourage everyone to purchase it, especially for the notes and prayers. My leather leather edition doesn’t have the prayers inside the covers, but it does have the additional prayers in the back. Anyway, thanks for your review. I LOVE this particular Bible!

Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate you sister.

I collect study bibles and own a genuine leather edition of the Lutheran Study Bible. Although I’m not Lutheran, it is one of my favorite bibles. The articles and notes are informative for any Protestant or evangelical Christian regardless of their specific denomination. The artwork at the start of each book is beautiful and it really gives the Lutheran Study Bible somewhat of a unique character compared to other study bibles. I would recommend it as a companion/adjunct to the Reformation Study Bible. Great to see this bible reviewed!

Great Review.I have the larger print h/c and the compact leatherette....The compact is really cool,very small and easy to carry. I am glad the Missouri Synod supervised this project as they have enormous respect for the Word of God...much more than the ELCA,imho. Anything from Concordia is solid,Augsburg,not so much (liberal).

The original study Bible used by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod was called the Concordia Self-Study Bible. It was basically the Zondervan NIV Study Bible with a few additions to the study notes from a Lutheran perspective.

The problem with paper copies is they get out of date fast. ESV is updated frequently and the last update was 2016. ESV from 2001 is pretty old and there have been several revisions to the ESV since 2001.

Pretty simple to use really (once you know how). Each Lutheran Service of the Word begins with an Old Testament Reading (followed by a sung Psalm, which is not listed,) then a New Testament reading (usually an epistle), and ends with a Gospel reading. Each Sunday service involves each of these three readings, upon which the pastor will comment. You will notice at the top of Lectionary page is a boldfaced title that reads "Three Year Lectionary - Series A." Later in the section, a similar heading will say "Series B" and "Series C." This is because the lectionary goes through a three year "cycle," so each Sunday in each of the three years is (mostly) different from the preceding year, thereby having a good percentage of the entire Bible read out over the course of the three year cycles. Each year of the "cycle" more-or-less emphasizes a different synoptic gospel. For example, we are presently in "Year B," which tends to focus on Mark. (As a sidebar, each of the three years includes a big chunk of John - usually on the big feast days - so no single year focuses on it.) In each year of the cycle, the list of readings is then keyed to "Sundays/Festivals" which are, in turn, keyed to blocks of Sundays known as "Seasons." For example, the first four Sundays before Christmas are the Advent season, so you begin at "Advent 1" on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, and so on. Same goes for Lent, Easter, etc. The "Proper" season is for Sundays that do not land in any 'special' season. The trick with using this chart is to remember that Easter changes dates from year to year, which in turn moves the seasons of Lent, Easter, and Pentecost accordingly. There is usually a short "Epiphany" season before Lent begins, and a very long "Proper" season after Pentecost. But the length, duration, and dates of the "Epiphany" and "Proper" seasons change from year to year. (For example, there were only 5 "Epiphany" sundays this year (2021), while the lectionary provides for up to eight such Sundays, depending on the year) It can be a little confusing, but once you account for the way Easter impacts the calendar, it becomes easier to use the Lectionary. The Lutheran Church puts out a calendar every year that provides the "Date" for each Sunday and Festival. (See files.lcms.org/wl/?id=Cj00DXTTIoeR2GiguHzjfWZmiUf51CH3 for the most recent one). You can scroll down to the reading for this Sunday (e.g., Pentecost) and its readings should line up with those given in the Lutheran Study Bible. As a fun fact, this lectionary, more-or-less, lines up with the readings for the Roman Catholic Church's calendar, which follows a similar three year cycle of readings. Hope this helps.

Looks very nice and good. But why publish it in the ESV version? Luther himself translated the New Testament to German based on the manuscripts collected by Erasmus of Rotterdam so it would be appropriate to stick to them and to honour Luther by publishing it in an adaption to his translation. The other alternative is KJV as chosen in the Reformation Heritage Study Bible.
@johnhouchins3156
@johnhouchins3156 Год назад
Translating the Luther Bibel into English creates room for error. Greek/Hebrew>German>English translates a translation from another translation. It's better to go from the original to the desired language. When you were a child, did you ever play the game of 'Telephone'? What started as the first whisper into an ear almost never comes out the same as what's whispered into the last. Also, we Lutherans honor and treasure Brother Martin, we don't worship him. Preserving God's Word as accurately as possible is much more important than creating shrines.

Concordia Publishing is the LCMS's publishing body. You can rely with certainty that ELCA had nothing to do with it. The LCMS is a confessional Lutheran body while ELCA is not. They are not in fellowship.

This study Bible is quite a feat. But you may want to take it with a grain of salt. It is published by the Concordia Publishing House, an arm of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. They make a claim for the Bible that the Scriptures do not make for themselves. They believe that the Bible is inerrant. To believe this they have to conflate the Word, who is Christ (see Gospel of John first chapter) who is without error with scriptures which are Inspired by God, II Timothy 3.16, 17, which tells us how they are useful but again, no claim of inerrancy. Even as a child learning how to read the Bible (KJV) , I noticed spelling errors. You can study further to realize that the Bible gives two different takes on flood during Noah's time. In one narrative, we find the popular story of animals coming in two by two but there's also a story of clean animals that came in by seven. And the Bible gives different counts of armed forces and battles. This demonstrates that those who wrote the text of the Bible knew there were different reports. This does not negate the Inspiration of God but it shows clearly that inerrancy is in error.
