Unique 360 video footage of a 63 year-old's solo thru-hike experience of The Lycian Way (Turkey) in October 2023. No running monologue with the camera here- just the stunning scenery, experiences, and sounds along the way that speak for themselves.

This is fantastic footage, thank you very much. From what I remember, you give a fair representation of both the immense beauty and the indisputable challenges, both physically and mentally, due to the exposed nature of much of the route. I need to mention that the dogs you met seemed much more approachable than some of the dogs I met :).

Thank you very much. I had good luck with dogs, for the most part. I feel that I have a pretty good sense of their intentions and most are just giving warning. However, the worst dog encounter I had was in Kalkan, in the heart of the city, when I was surrounded by three dogs. One was very aggressive and I thought I'd have to poke him with my trekking poles. They we fine with other tourists, but apparently didn't like my hat, pack, and poles and, more than likely, my scent after days on the trail ;-).

I liked your video very much, I will walk the Lycian Way in September. Which track of the Lycian Way did you walk? Thank you for sharing.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate your comment. Please check into the expected temperatures in September. I started the trek in early October and it was still pretty darn hot at the start. Most of the time there is little shade while you're hiking. Great question about which "track." Like many/most people I was unaware of the variations until I was actually on the trek- I never saw mention of this fact. For the most part I followed the recommended path using the TrekRight Lycain Way app, although I found the AllTrails app better at showing a more precise and directional location. Navigating is often challenging on this trek and definitely a part of the overall experience. Bring a portable battery so that you can keep your phone charged between villages. You will have a great experience- enjoy!

Thank you! I highly recommend that you do. Of course the weather from year to year is unpredictable, but based on my experience I'd suggest starting in early October. Even then, it was pretty hot early on in the trek. ~ Blake

Congratulations on your hike and well put together video capturing your adventure. I’m looking at doing this in the beginning of November, what are your thoughts on number of days to complete? Thanks in advance for your advice

Keeping in mind that I started in Olendeniz and finished in Hisacandir (the original finish). I also skipped two sections that involved walking along a busy highway with miles and miles of greenhouses- not worth it! I spent about three weeks on the trek, but with several days in towns refueling- showering, soft bed, and cold beer. I could have gone faster, but I wasn't on a tight schedule or looking for any bragging rights. Of course, we're all different in our ability and what we want from the experience. Give yourself a little extra time in case you want to hang out somewhere for a few days. I will say that I noticed things starting to shut down in the smaller towns/villages because I was approaching the "off-season." I finished October 31st. You're likely to run into this even more. Just make sure you have adequate water, food, and shelter - do not rely on reports from others who have passed through an area earlier in the season. Hope this is helpful....

@@mtccphotography1281 Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate the feedback. I agree no rush on the hike and just want to enjoy and embrace the experience, as you mentioned a few days “say every 3 to 5 days I’ll take a town break to eat and drink a beer and recharge power bank and cell phone etc…I did part of this hike a few years back as a trail run a 35 mile section and really enjoyed the views and atmosphere. It sparked the interest of doing the through hike of the Lycian Way, and looking over some feedback from other hikers I agree the highway section after Finke I’ll take a taxi and skip that section, and as you mentioned the Greenhouse section seems a bit monotonous at best. Well take care and thanks again for your help, hopefully I will be able to do the PCT in 2026 thus the preparation leading up to it starting this summer. Take care hope you have a great week ahead
