I've noticed where I live latinx (latino, latina? ) also use the word a lot , even if they look kinda white, and the black people around them don't say anything, so I guess it's okay as long as you aren't white. I mean i don't mind, I'm not gonna use it , but I just thought it was weird.
She should have just used another racial slur or for the ultimate move just use alternating slurs for gay people, different races and political stances.
Am I the only one who sometimes gives albums I'm only so-so on a second chance if melon praises them, and then usually end up liking it? Do I just like it because funny meme critic reinforced it in my brain as a good thing? Or would I have reached the same conclusion either way, and melon just gave me the motivation to give it another shot? Should I be giving all my music more chances under the assumption I'll enjoy them more on the fifth or sixth playthough? What kind of tunes am I missing out on because I hear an album two or three times and decide it's not for me?
pretty easy 1: pause the beat 2: she asks what's up 3: say "you forgot to mute one word" 4: she realizes and apologizes 5: kendrick Lamar says "stop booing guys" 6: start up the beat and continue to have a nice fan interaction
Or he could’ve just let it go because he knowingly pulled on her stage, got her to rap along to his song that he knows contains the word, and then when she said it (repeating his lyrics), it’s made awkward.
@@Gino565 I feel like there should be a general understand amongst non-black people that that’s not ok to say, but still I think Kendrick didn’t have to do that to her
@@mavisevelyn618 Well it’s not. Because it’s in a song. He knowingly invited a white person on stage to sing one of HIS songs that he knows contains the word. Honestly, as a black person I don’t see a problem with a white person saying it in this context. They’re literally repeating his words. If he was gonna get so funny about it, like Fantano said he should’ve just whispered to her beforehand “hey just don’t say the n word okay” and it would be fine. But honestly I don’t think a big deal should’ve been made out of it anyway. They paid to see you, they like your songs, don’t humiliate in front of thousands of people just because they literally sang along to a song YOU wrote.
Glorious I don't see why people value his opinion on so many things that aren't music. Some of his views are ridiculous, he thinks going vegan helps the environment 😂😂
Mew [Jacob] Because it does. Beef has a huge carbon footprint. I prefer the Mediterranean diet myself. It is almost aa good as going vegan when it comes to reducing our carbon footprint. There are other reasons to avoid or reduce beef besides the enviroment. Cows also take up a lot of land and consume a lot of grain and water that could all be used to help people instead.
There was no reason to read the entirety of the 1942 Hitler’s speech during the video to “prove your point”, I thought you were better than this Fantano
HalaMadridGoals2 The fader made a hit-piece on Anthony accusing him of being racist, essentially. As a result he took down his old 2nd channel, thatistheplan.
www.spin.com/2018/03/anthony-fantano-needle-drop-fader-settlement/ It got removed but it basically labelled Fantano as a sort of alt-right type memer guy causing his tour to get cancelled and his vids to get demonetised. I guess the memes are just to wind up the melon because it's funny.

SIEG CAL! Fantano, addressing the Reichstag, after he has eliminated The Fader with his private Army of Alt-Right Meme-Lords.
If anything, he should've told her to bleep it PRIOR to singing the song, rather than after she says it. Kendrick is at fault here. Sensitive topic, yes but it was his song and he knew full well that word would be used
@@useyournogos6845 No he's not. The series name is "with". In every episode of the "cringing with" series, the person in the title is being cringed at. So there's no need for "correcting" it to at.
Biblical Adrian and I am sure most of them have said it in private when rapping along to Kendrick's songs, but they jumped on a bandwagon the moment Kendrick made it a huge issue and intentionally embarassed her
AnyThingWorx Archived u see white pol did more than just throw us under the buss they oppressed us for years so when she said that word, a word that only belonged to us, it kinda brings that oppression back. But u gotta be open minded and idk maybe actually smart to understand that lmaoo. I’m not even rey listen to u cus u not even black 😂.
@@maryanne.898 Congratulations, you're living in the past. We are no longer oppressing you, we are not responsible for our ancestors' wrong doings, and we do not owe you shit. So stop being racists and judging people by the color of their skin, thanks.
Mark K you said that like she’s a professional performer. She’s literally just some girl in the audience that was called up onstage for probably the first time in her life.
I mean...when you ask someone to perform your song....and your song has the N-word in it....it's kind of your responsibility as the artist to give your fan you invite up there a heads up. Especially considering they are probably hyped up and aren't used to meeting this celebrity and being on-stage. It seems she's confused in the video as to why he stopped the song. Because...if you're a fan and Kendrick asks you to sing on-stage (while recognizing you're white, to sing a song with the N-word) is your first thought when he stops you.., "oh he's probably stopping me because of my skin color and that word"? My guess is she was hyped, he stopped her and she thought she messed up or did something wrong. Hence, "what, I'm not cool enough?" I lay this at Kendrick's feet. Set your fans up for success. This girl did nothing wrong. She was given no direction and was pulled up in a moment of excitement and said something uncouth. Let's be adults maybe?
Cody Be an adult and realise WTF you're saying. Delaney big Patricia Star built ass didn't say it at first. You're not slick and you're not cool. Period.
Also when youre performing a song, as a normal person, in front of a GIGANTIC crowd, you might just forget to consciously censor yourself if youre reciting lyrics from a song you know. Just like how it's hard when you've had the wrong lyrics for a song all this time, then you read the right ones but you're still used to the wrong ones. She reacted with "Oh, did I say it?" Like she was clearly just absorbed in the song, probably nervous af, and didnt notice the slip up.
Badmon Basquiat that woman heard that song a million times without a single grain of censorship because that's how Kendrick intended it. If he doesn't want people saying it he should stop writing it into his music. Get the hell out of here with that bs.
if you vibe hard with a song that has this word mutiple times in it you may forget to censor yourself like i'm not doing when being allone listening to some music lol
samua prazeres nah, no excuse, I love Kendrick to death, but that shit was lame, acting like all the white kids don't be saying the shit when they not around him anyway lmao
bomberbang how fucking DARE you say the M-word?! Do you not realize that melons has been eaten by humans for i dont know have many years, and here you are calling him the M-word.. Disgusting
Exactly. The whole come on bro was just her joking around before she knew what the issue was. Once she knew what the issue was, she apologized profusely.
Unrelated to the topic, but DAMN, Anthony. You lookin' good. That's not a Kendrick joke. You look really fit and you're rocking the pink shirt. Just wanted to say that.
Macent This particular concert took place at Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, AL. Therefore, there were quite a few more artists there and this particular audience was more of a collective of common people rather than the majority containing those who are a part of the Kendrick Lamar fanbase. This is abundantly clear in how the audience responds during and after the incident, first rolling with it and then outright booing her. Furthermore, keep in mind that this festival took place in the deep South where this particular word carries more weight in terms of negativity and racial roots. In all I do wholeheartedly wish that Kendrick would have handled the situation better, though I do also feel that this girl could have gauged the way that this word would be interpreted given her location better as well.
Do you guys remember that scene in Lord of The Rings when they're trying to get into the mines of Moria and they need to find the Elvish word for "Friend"? It's Melon. lol
It can matter, but looking at the themes Kendrick deals with you have to be a complete dipshit to go to his show and scream it, even in lyrics. I don't even do that shit when I am singing it in my car. I can see Anthony's point about how it was handled, but she's a moron for hopping on stage and doing that.
bokunotraplord yeah I understand what you mean with the themes but in that part of the song, there wasn’t any heavy content that Kendrick usually deals with so I don’t know if that point applies. Honestly, there was no harm done, and there usually isn’t with that word. Unless directed at a black persons in a derogatory way then I’d say it’s when it comes an issue.
Double digit IQ... When the hype around him started and when everyone was praising him like he was baby Jesus, savior of modern music I got interested and got really disappointed right away... The dude said in the interview that he didn't know what was jazz but he liked samples lol , real artist right there...
@@vulekv93 yeah I remember that time too. My friends who were white kept telling me to listen and I did and I heard nothing special. Really. But what I did think was weird was that most of the people who spend money on this guy's music is white and he knows that. He is trolling his audience because he doesn't like that they are all white. All these stupid rappers say they same thing "I got into the game to make a difference in my community, the black community, but I got jilted when I looked out into the audience and just saw a bunch of white kids saying 'nigga'" s.s.d.d
Honestly came into this video expecting a much more cut-and-dry opinion on this, but you really articulated a lot of different viewpoints into this and acknowledged the nuance to the situation; you're a treasure, melon.
He just sat on the fence, knowing well that Kendrick having a feminine tantrum about whitey saying the same word he says in the song is the standard 85 IQ Afro-Latino power trip
Wow, I can't believe Fantano would go as far as to have a respectful take on the matter and see both sides of a situation that he openly admits isn't affected by but takes that into account when talking about it.
@@davidreuters8509 Don't want a white girl to sing the n word? Then don't bring her up on stage to sing a song you put the n word in 21 times. It's not her fault, it's Kendrick's. It's that simple.
Even schoolboy q said on tv that his fans should say the n word if it’s in a song. You can’t just get furious at people if you haven’t specified the rules. Particularly if others (even in your own clique) day the polar opposite.
Silvio Porto.....goofy idiots like you are hilarious. You talking a bunch of bullshit on the internet but come in front of a black person and cal yourself dropping that word and SEE what happens! Then you’ll be worried for the REST of your life that a black person will go off on you for saying it. People don’t learn
Called her up to sing the song with him. Then she sings the song with him and he gets m.A.A.d about it. ... yeah no. He is the idiot in this situation.
Or you could just respect the history and realize that The group of people that were put down by the word are using it in spite of the people who would call them that word And just not say it if you’re not a part of that group of people how hard is that
Jedd Gangman But you can say that with any slur... ffs, black people always use the word faggot in rap & that has been used to demean gays for generations so what’s the difference?
@@mayaw.4013 And black people who have their heads screwed on, myself included, don't agree with that. I actively stopped listening to songs that have that word in it from non-queer artists. The word is still used to this day to demean LGBT+ people so straight people shouldn't be saying it. Hope this helps.
Sebastian G. What does that have to do with anything I said? I made a point stating that black people that are so offended by white people saying the n-word, are the same people that are fine with saying the word faggot. Also, it’s really not a big deal. If you can’t handle someone calling you a slur, you’re a bitch-baby.
context also matters: Kendrick raps about black liberation, pan-africanism, and things like the the black panther party a lot. Why would a white “fan” of Kendrick’s possibly think he would be okay with her saying the n-word?
@@horriblelifechoices5780 Why would you invite a white person on stage for a track that uses the word at the end of every line in the chorus? Especially with as much emphasis it has on it when you hear it.
@@peluchefuzzit's simple. Don't say the fucking word dude, or replace it with another word, it is fucking easy. I don't understand what's everyone's copes about how ohh the black rapper has n word in his song!!! that means we (non black people) could say it!!! Just don't say the word, if it's an accidents and slips out, fine, whatever, but when you're in a stage in front of many black people, especially in front of a black ARTIST, you should, idk MAYBE considering being more careful, just me doe
'Are we cool bro', she ain't a performer, she is just a fan out of the crowd. I think her response was really good for someone who probably never stands in front of an audience of thousands.
You know the entire crowd was singing the lyrics, what difference does it make that she happens to be on stage? Generally I don't care if others use the word (although I don't use it myself), but if it's in a song, people are going to say it. Music shouldn't have racial or cultural gatekeeping. If I were a black artist, I'd be THRILLED to have people, of any race, singing along to my song.
I find it especially predatory to call her out for saying it, even though the black community can't even agree on the appropriateness of its usage. Either everyone should be allowed to say it, or no one should.
Lmfao he just used this as an opportunity to look like a hero but it was corny. Doesn’t he realize most his fans are white now especially since his last pop album he’d have to be naive to think they don’t recite all of his lyrics
I really respect how levelheaded you were when addressing this! It's easy to take a very polarized position on this issue. So thanks for taking a moment to really try and understand the different perspectives melon! 😁
I know it's kind of "hur dur" to paint things as a cut and dry but look. You know this lady wasnt being racist You know the kids that rap along to it arent saying it to be racist So when she gets up there and says it (despite how goofy she sounds), she says it because it's part of the song. That's it. *Whats the big deal folks*
TheWoWClown what do you mean? It's a double standard and if I'm correct, in the US we can say whatever we want to. Just because someone isn't okay with it doesn't mean we have to stop saying it completely. I don't care if their feelings are hurt. I'll say it if I want to.
That's fine bro. But you have to be willing to deal with the social consequences. No one is suggesting a governmental policy where anyone who says the n-word is gonna be sent to the gulag. However, if you are going to ignore other people's feelings, they're allowed to ignore yours. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.
From a european perspective, this whole "N Word" problem in america is so backwards. Like why would you use the word in your lyrics if you don't want people to use the word ? Are they forbidden to sing your lyrics ? Isn't this kind of word only being a racist sign when the context validates it ? Theres a good solution if you don't want a word to be used, you don't use it yourself. Keeping it "only allowed to my community" is validating racist people thinking the society should be divided.
Europeans talking about how backwards we are when it comes to the n-word and racism? Dude, wear do you think America got our racist tendencies? “Pot calling the kettle black” much?
Silver Hedgehog because of the long history of racism in America it’s not as cut and dry as “the context” It’s been historically used in a derogatory sense and it’s become a slur that has been reclaimed by the black community, much in the same way “faggot” has been reclaimed by people in the LGBTQA community It’s okay when the community uses it, not when others do Doesn’t matter the context, if you’re a white person in America, it shouldn’t come out of your mouth- once it gets into songs a lot of people have different views- Schoolboy Q makes white people say it at his concerts and ONLY at his concerts Just trying to shed some light from someone who lives here :)
@@TheseusPro that completely goes against free speech. Contest matters.. always. History is history. Yes we must acknowledge it but also move on from it. The sins of the father do not transfer to the child
Kevin Beteta Since when does context matter? It didn't matter when the girl was just saying the words from his song, so why should anyone look into the meaning of the N word in Kendrick's music?
That was 100% Kendrick's fault, this whole situation was so corny and awkward but it was not her fault not even a little bit Kendrick should have known better, a lot better
Donald Trump Ok stfu up now. I agree Kendrick should have known better and is in the wrong, but he is still the greatest artist of this generations. You are looking at Kendrick’s music at face value and not understanding his message. He isn’t saying white people are bad, he isn’t saying he is a victim of anyone.
Why did he have a white person come on stage and sing that particular song then? He could have selected something else to avoid this issue. I mean, this song uses the n-word so many times. It would have been awkward to have just been silent during those moments. Not only that, but Kendrick uses the word 'bitch' quite liberally in his lyrics and he brought a woman up on stage ffs - that isn't exactly his word to appropriate. If Kendrick wants to be PC about words, then maybe he should censor himself.
yournamehere Are you comparing the b word to the n word?. Everyone of yall sounds so fucking ignorant it makes my goddamn skin crawl Jesus.. No! He doesn't have to censor himself. White people should just know not to say the n word !! It's not yalls anymore, its unacceptable, period. How hard is that if you know the fucking lyrics? If its that difficult, then yeah. Excuse yourself, shut the fuck up !!
I agree that white people shouldn't use the N word. But I don't think men should be calling women bitches either - there's a history of oppression among race, and women, and both of these issues intersect as well. My point here is that you can't just care about one issue, such as race, and not care about other issues such as sexism because they intertwine. I think it was a pretty boneheaded move to get a white person to rap a song that uses the N-word in every single line. Omitting the N-word in that song specifically would have taken away from the emphasis and flow. Kendrick could have done a better job in choosing the song or the person to come on stage.
i live nearby gulf shores so a bunch of my friends were there in the audience and they said it was the worst second-hand embarrassment they've ever felt
she looks goofy af saying the word, but if it's a part of the song, a quotation, she should be able to say it. if the artist himself thinks the piece needs multiple n-words, it propably won't be the same or have the same message without. why he even asked her to perform the song in the first place?
This situation is so stupid. There are other songs he could have picked that don't contain that word. He knew which song he was doing and intentionally picked a white girl to come up to rap it. How is there any argument?
Shes young and on stage in front of SO MANY people and with presumably an idol. I dont think she should have any blame, she was under so much pressure and mustve been so nervous
I think in 10 or 20 yrs that word will be as meaningless as bro or dude.. and everyone will use it.. It already seems like allot of young non black kids say it all the time..
I kind of think so too; already where I live other races that are not white regularly use the word, but I think it's still not something people feel comfortable with white people saying..Maybe if the white person hangs with a lot of non white people they will let them use it among them? I'm not sure.
Glittch_ i could be wrong but i think it just seems that way because media blows up stories like this.. I you watch allot of RU-vid videos (skating mostly)from all over and the kids in them don't seem to care at all.. That's the generation that i think will change this.. Like that xxx video, he has a white girl lip singing his song and she clearly says the N word..
