Since finding out I have Swedish ancestry, I have been diving head first into Swedish Christmas traditions. Looks like I’ll be making rice porridge for Christmas!

I am from Germany, but I love the story about the swedish Tomte... So, I decided to cook every 23rd of December a porridge for our house gnome. (My neighbor eats it every year and enjoys this celebration very much 😉) And my sons? They are very pleased that our Tomte stays at our home...

I am really enjoying your advent series even though Christmas is gone. The videos are very interesting and sweet. I wish you would provide recipes along with your stories. Please consider doing that! It would be so fun to try the foods at home.

one suggestion, I am sure you do not know it, but I am sure after you try....you could find some similar things in Scottland or Switzerland from where I thing the roots of the product comes from; you can buy it online searching in the web and I am talking of a product that comes from from a very little country, is the "dulce de leche", a lovely sweet that goes fantastic on this porridge, I do eat it a lot of times, three tea spoons (no so little) in the plate and you will know the "paradise"...I guess if you try it you do not leave anymore and is so good for a lot of others pastries too, pancakes, pastafrola, even alone!! is magical...

Ahh that sounds interesting! I do like this plain version, with butter in the middle and some cinnamon too. But mostly I eat porridge with berries, just plain raspberries from the freezer, a little bit more healthy version than the one with sugar. :) But till super tasty!

Hello Maria, I love Swedish rice porridge, I discovered it last year because I always like to look for Scandinavian recipe and I also liked the little story with the almond that goes with the recipe ^_^ It's not Swedish at all but I like to add some cranberries compote (just cooked in a saucepan a few minutes with a little bit of water and sugar). I should make some again soon, yum!

During the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first, when sugar and spices became more available to the wealthy in Britain, a classical special porridge dish was eaten as a special dish (because of the cost of sugar etc) this was very similar to yours, its main ingreidients were porridge, cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, cream, honey and raisins, however no rice was added,. I have made this from a book called Elizabethan recipes..... very delicious indeed!

I'd love to have the recipe to compare with my mommy used to make! We call that "arroz doce" sweet rice; by the way I'm Brazilian but I'm living in Florida now! I love the way you live your life with the all simplicity 😍 ❤️😘

It's so funny when in Astrid Lindgren's "Michel" the almond breaks in two and Lina and Alfred each find one half. Poor Lina. The children always tease her so!

all things green - cram is just heated lingonberry or black currant jelly/jam and poured over rice porridge.

Please can you let us have the recipe? I've not heard of it before here in UK. We have porridge made of oats and rice pudding baked in the oven but not rice porridge!

We also say "tho' but" in North Yorkshire. It isn't correct English more dialect so it was funny (& nice) hearing you say it! There is a lot of Viking influence here!
