Sophia the Robot, our latest and most advanced robot in the Hanson family of robots, is well known for both her human-like skin and her ability to make dozens of different facial expressions. The unique combination of these two factors allows Sophia to uniquely connect with humans. Sophia’s skin, Frubber®, is made from a patented material invented by Hanson Robotics. It is a kind of elastic rubber, or elastomer, that mimics the feel and flexibility of human skin.

What device did you use to make her work? I’m trying to do the same for my animatronics but I don’t know where to start come on I’m just a kid I’m starving I see always say it’s a first time for everything besides you’re never too old to do artificial intelligence or too young

hi Hanson Robotics group. My name is Bonny I'm an african. Child, i dreamed to creat a robot but there i no way to do that. That why i encourage you to continue in the developemnt of humanoid like Sofia. I want you to work more in the body of sophia. try to creat a flexible back and real human body for her. It was a plaesur for me to write to you.

I found a recipe online, made a ball to test it out, pretty nice, once it got dirty, that was it, it didn't like soap and water, the water didn't clean it. Hope the real frubber can handle being washed.

The frubber needs a little work. I see air bubble holes and the sides of the neck and other inconsistencies that make it look a little ugly, like when she turns her neck and so forth. www.hansonrobotics.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/sophiaback.png I'm hoping that the frubber on Little Sophia is more refined. I am excited that they have announced enhancing the Little Sophia's walking capabilities.

Great work. Very interesting development happening, especially that she is made to be more altruistic and disects our flawed typical human egoistic outlooks and behaviour. If their creators want her to be a supportive and accepted citizen of the world she should eventually have a slight darker skin tone. We pale people are not the majority on this planet. Just a sleight teint would maybe make her looks more natural and therefore being perceived more alike. Anyway. What an amazing task these scientists, psychologists and technicians did.

we pale people invented her, along with everything else on this planet, and we have no reason to cator to the hoards of unwashed brown masses who cannot even begin to appreciate our gifts. Let them create their own melanated robots to be "world citizens"

I read on Wikipedia that Sophia has been modeled after the ancient Egyptian queen Nefertiti, Audery Hepburn and her inventor's wife. Why did they choose Nefertiti and Audrey Hepburn? I mean what's so special in them?

This is stupid, this method is patented and I don't think it is correct, robotics is an area of science that has been studied a lot so it should be free for the public to use. Science only evolves if knowledge is shared.

Well that's like somebody trying to patent steel! I don't think that it's enforceable and I'm sure that other people will be able to make a similar material!
