Oliver, you did such a great job on this. I actually learned things I didn't know! It was a bummer when we found out we couldn't be "The Terminator" in the Terminator game, but thankfully game licensing has improved greatly over the years. I met James Cameron may years later, and I just wish I could have talked to him before we made the game. I personally love the Terminator universe he created. One other thing, this was our first Sega Megadrive game, we literally were reading badly photocopied instructions in Japanese trying to work out how to program the console. Crazy time.

The thing about the Terminator game on PC was it was an open world 3D game long before Grand Theft Auto. The streets of L.A., you could go into stores, banks, army bases, drive cars, etc. Everyone was dropped randomly into the level. You played as the Terminator or Reese. Did it work?. Yes, but not well. Still, it was trying to be GTA before GTA. Back when Bethesda really tried to innovate. I appreciate failures more than companies who don't try at all. At least they tried.

Back in my childhood i never played Terminator 1 game based on the first movie. In fact, i never knew the first movie existed until much later, when i got my very first PC in my teenager years. Thus i started with Terminator 2 and played games only based on that movie. The one on NES, where i got stuck on bike riding levels, and the other one is a port of arcade rail shooter T2 The Arcade game, where i got stuck where you need to protect a truck, on a road to skynet, while it been attacked by terminators and hunter killers. I also had this massive book with cheat codes and guides for NES and Sega games, and it is there that i saw screenshots from another Terminator 2 game for Sega's console, based on second movie, that was a action game, and not rail shooter. And it is also there, where i saw the screenshots of the first Terminator game, based on movie. And after that i was interested to see the first movie, but i never saw it on TV, until i got my very first PC. And then one of my friends brought a disc with both Terminator movies, and we watched both movies back to back together. I was 13 years old at that point and... in comparison to the second film, with which i started first until that moment, first movie was very dark and brutal and less funny. I even got mixed feelings about it, and felt like it was too boring for me. But the second movie was a blast to see again, but not on TV but on my computer and without ads. It was fun experience. These days i think that both movies is cool, but back when i first time saw first movie, a long after i saw second movie, i thought that first movie was boring.

I also never understood why they never let you do a Kyle Reese and Terminator playthrough. It automatically gives replayability to the game and let's face it, everybody wants to play as the unstoppable cyborg in some capacity. What makes it more jarring is there were other games licensed at the time such as Jurassic Park that did let you play as Grant or an escaped Velociraptor so it's not exactly like this was some overly ambitious idea at the time.

I think the Bethesda games deserve more attention. They presented many very interesting innovations things back then. As with many Bethesda games the biggest flaw were lots of bugs. They tried to do stuff that just was too much for the available technology when the games were released. Still pretty impressive and ahead of its time. Also I'm sure those Terminator games were an essential step for developing the technology and concepts for The Elder Scrolls. So they might not be widely remembered nowadays, but they have an important place in gaming history. Greetings from Germany :)

Gary Whitta shown as 17:57 is the same one who wrote The Book of Eli (2010), co-wrote After Earth (2013) with M. Night Shyamalan, and co-developed the story for Rogue One (2016)

6:20 Upper left hand corner that image. It reminds me of a clip I just watched that showed an image that looked just like that. The clip showed a clip from Terminator Resistance for PS5

I just realized that the "CSM-101" reflected in the Terminator's sunglasses stands for "Cyberdyne Systems Model 101"

I've used Tommy Tallarico's Terminator music in my videos before, and one time he told me in a comment that it "took him back." 1:02 / 26:12 Michael Connell Biehn glancing over the name "Michael B. Connor." 10:56 Hey! Those battle duds aren't Tech-Com issue! 17:04 Those are more likely supposed to be the model 102 based on Franco Columbu, one of Arnie's bodybuilder buddies from back in the day. Or rather, they should be, to make it more authentic to the movie. You can play as the Franco/model 102 Terminator in 'Terminator: Resistance'. 18:58 Why can't Kyle climb ledges like Conrad Hart from the original Flashback? 20:39 It just occurred to me that that's also reminiscent of the ending to Another World/Out of This World.
