Sonics rivals are one of the best part of the series characters like Knuckles,Shadow, and Blaze are mostly known everywhere and talked about as their favorite characters
Finally someone knows their Mecha and Metal lore. Mecha sonic Mk 1 is the same entity as mk2. Metal sonic is a different entity. Something Smbz got wrong for Mechas back story. Also fun fact for anyone reading: In sonic adventure 1 we see a mecha mk3 in a pod. As for Metal sonic, he makes an appearance as neo metal sonic as his new upgrade in heroes.
The way i see it, Mecha mark 1 was made to test a possible sonic bot, then metal sonic, then after metal sonic he went back and refined Mecha into mark 2.
The way I see it Silver Sonic from Sonic 2 8bit is the first prototype, with Mecha Sonic mark 1 from Sonic 2 16 bit is the second prototype. With Metal Sonic as the finish product.

Most fans either know Mecha Sonic from s3k or smbz, official or not it still introduced many sonic fans to the character, who might i add only has an appearance in 1 mainline game, a Lego spinoff, and a comic book. I also don't really understand what the issue is with my mention of smbz, i never claimed it to be official media in the video.

@@clasherinotheone5249 I more or less mean that their personalities and their motives clash a lot. Also, to be fair you aren’t wrong about Sonic and Knuckles, but they have fought so many times in the past that you kind of have to say that he is a rival to Sonic, or at least used to be. Not Sonic and Shadow is another story, as yes they don’t fight as much anymore, but it they have a disagreement, they are just as likely to fight it out as they would to just talk about it. Also, the idea that Shadow is more interesting as his own character, which I do agree with in games such as Sonic 06, doesn’t really mean anything in the case you are describing. The main thing to know about Shadow is that while he may look like Sonic in some ways, but is considered the Yang to Sonic’s Yin, as while they are both heroes, they both have their own styles to doing things. Not saying that’s all their is to Shadow’s character, as their is so much more to him than that, but that is what I mean by saying that he is still Sonic’s rival.
I really really really wish the great old times continued majorly. Sorry if no one here knows, but I would ask the world if I could what happened. Sonic and his friends had such great stories with their rivals in 3D action, gameplay, cutscenes, and stuff. For example in my opinion, Jet, Wave, and Storm were interesting characters as racing rivals of Sonic and his friends. Oh come on, please, it has been so, so long.

All Sonic Rivals are good in their own way (except Surge) but Metal Sonic is still the best, because he is literally an evil sonic, unlike Shadow, who are just from their appearance
Surge is still good as a character. Not only that but at one point surge was trying to rival sonic. That’s not the case anymore but a lot of Sonic’s rivals don’t really rival sonic anymore

0:31 I know that CD came out after 2, and I _also_ think it would make more sense (from an escalation/development sense) if Metal Sonic came later, but Somic Team's official stance is that CD happened before 2 in the timeline.

I would like to point out that The Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games isn't really Canon for reason that'll be a mouthful to explain Edit: Megaman should also count as a Rival to Sonic in the Archie comics, if you read the entire thing or watch the dub version on RU-vid, you can see what I mean
Mehpiles is one of the best villains in the franchise, even if 06 is a steaming piece of shit. His confident yet sinister voice, the demonic aura that seems to follow him, the feeling of uneasiness, fear even. And that theme of his, a piano spiraling down into madness as if Mephiles is being driven to insanity. Scourge is hot garbage though.
I think i need to explain something for people (EVERYONE) who get this wrong BLAZE IS NOT a COUNTERPART OF SONIC FROM THE SOL DIMENSION Blaze is FROM THE FUTURE and ended UP in the sol dimension The sequence of events goes Blaze in sonic 06 gets sent to the sol dimension after absorbing iblis (She literally states that shes going to seal herself into a different dimension because silver wouldnt kill her) Crossing dimensions through abstract means probably causes amnesia because sonic gets amnesia when he gets to the sol dimension in the IDW comics. Blaze likely suffered amnesia because she doesnt know who sonic is and her place in rush would be the first time they met. Eggman nega is FROM THE FUTURE as stated in sonic rivals Blaze is a princess however in the sol dimension so the only 1 realistic explanation She just took over emedialty apon entering the sol dimension since they mistook her for their true queen(theres a version of eggman nega in the sol dimension so its probably a parallel reality to the dark future of silvers timeline BLAZE IS NOT AN ALTERNATE SONIC FROM THAT DIMENSION

It may have been a joke, but it sure as heck didn’t land, and it just felt like hating on the game just to hate on it. Plus, the Silver part of things were done really well, so I just feel like it didn’t make any sense on not putting it in. Also, you didn’t even mention his abilities.
The funniest thing about the thumbnail is that all of those characters are essentially clones of Sonic. And they are all referred to as his rivals, even though they aren’t really rivals. but the one clone that actually is his rival, in fact it’s his entire character placement, is not in the thumbnail. @@nithinshakthithiruppathi4028 Bo it’s actually not a disservice at all. I mean Shadow’s whole schtick is that he’s a Sonic clone as is Metal Sonic’s. In different ways of course. Metal Sonic, in universe, is meant to be a robot copy of him. Shadow, in real life, is meant to be based on Sonic so that, in universe, they come off as alternate versions of each other even if by coincidence (or maybe not coincidence if the mural theory is true). Blaze is supposed to be Sonic’s equivalent from another dimension. And Knuckles is literally based on another spiked animal that roles into a ball, and when he runs in both classic and modern games he runs in the same pose as Sonic. He’s supposed to be the Sonic if Sonic were more strength-based. Even if you look at SegaSonic Arcade and see Mighty and Ray run alongside him, it’s just a red Sonic who’s strong and a yellow Sonic who can fly. So…. Tails-Sonic and Knuckles-Sonic. Even Amy was just the pink girl Sonic. She changed her hair and had her own personality but now, as much as I hate how generic they’ve decided to try and make her, her personality bio sounds like a description of Sonic. It’s not a disservice. It’s a theme. There’s meaning behind it. There’s a little bit of Sonic in everyone.

What you are saying is that all of these characters are clones of Sonic. If it’s gameplay your talking about, then yes a lot of them control the same, but then wouldn’t Jet, the character you are saying isn’t a clone of Sonic, be a clone? These characters aren’t something you can just say are clones of Sonic, as that can be said to be a disservice to them.

Bruh look at their promo art in Riders 1. Jet is literally Sonic as a bird. They even did what they did with Evil Sonic aka Scourge in the comics and just swapped the body and eye color. The Babylon Rogues as a whole are clearly each inspired by Team Sonic but skewed. You’re actually providing a disservice to my original comment which said that all the characters in the thumbnail are Sonic Clones and considered rivals, but none of them are ACTUAL true rivals to Sonic except the one Sonic clone that’s not in the thumbnail: Jet. He is a Sonic clone who is not in the thumbnail and is the only one who is TRULY just a rival to Sonic. Everyone’s else is a friend, an enemy, ally. Frienemy, but they all have other unique dynamics to their relationship. But Jet’s relationship and dynamic with Sonic is literally 100% “RIVAL”. He’s the only one whose sole existence is to compete with Sonic for competition’s sake.

Honestly, out of all characters listed here Scourge, Swifty and also Jet are the only ones who can be called true Sonic rivals. Like, Scourge's whole life purpose is to prove he's the best version of Sonic until he realized he must be his own thing.
