Meryl is one of those rare few who was BORN to be what she does. Ridiculously talented. Incredibly attractive. She has the most classically lovely features. She is innovative, genius and a legend.
+Cammiboe : Agree 1000%. Greatest actor I have ever seen, and I've seen a heck of lot in my time : great British, European, American actors etc. She beats them all. A truly gifted actor. Just her range of accents is amazing. I live in Australia and I can tell you that she got the voice of Lindy Chamberlain perfectly. I really don't know how she does it.
didnt even mention that not only did she do a polish accent in sophies choice...but she learned german and spoke it in a POLISH accent as well speak in the polish language itself. shes so awesome it hurts
No she fucking didn't speak it with a Polish accent 🤣 Why do people insist on pulling these invented facts out of their asses? To get easy likes from other retards I suppose.
It's not just the accents. It's the change in the tone, resonance, pitch, just everything. The same woman does Julia and Sophie? THAT is amazing. She is amazing. Even physical embodiment. And the same example. Julia? Sophie? Play the scene where Sophie is at the station and is so frail and just slips to the floor and where Julia enters a room "Hellloooo".
Have you seen her portrayed a rabbi in Angels in America? Talk about physical embodiment. Speaking of which, how about the first scenes in Iron Lady where she was now the aging Margaret buying milk from a store.
Her Polish impersionation is beyond excellent. She even has that glow in her eyes that people who have limted command in a language have, if you ever talked to a foreigner with basic English you'll know what I am talking about.
She is amazing and extremely versatile not only in her accent but in her look and body language too, she is never Meryl Streep. She is always someone else. Great video
To me, her very best one was the Polish accent from "Sophie's choice". There were moments I could not even understand what she was saying. Her most tragic role, I think her performance truly marked me. Oh, and as for her perfect british accent, I believe it was more accurate in "Plenty". If I hadn't known better, I'd have said she was born and raised in England. Amazing woman, Meryl Streep.
CaterinaEvClub haven’t seen Sophie’s choice, but I watched the scene where she makes the choice. I’m German and bloody hell she just fucking nails ( as an American) German with a polnisch accent!! That woman...
I agree --her accent in Plenty is deeply and seriously British !! Just my two cents: perhaps her British accent in French Lieutenant's arises from the character she portrayed: a damaged, lonely, tragic, and self-deprecating artist.: hence lots of drama in the persona. Whereas in Plenty, her character was more of social in nature.
She is not only masterful with language and dialect but she has the uncanny ability to get deep into the heart and soul of every character she plays. Marvelous Meryl Streep!
+John Ross Fischer Her Irish is the only accent she had a coach for and had a really hard time apparently. I am amazed at how many mistake I hear in Dancing at Lughnasa
judging by the likes it's not just you, but I completely disagree: she still is very pretty (at least with makeup), but she was drop-dead gorgeous in her twenties/thirties.
She's great in everything, but her performance in Sophie's Choice was absolutely the best performance by an actress in a movie I have EVER seen! It was like a tour de force and almost super human! Totally brilliant.
1 of my all time actresses. her name will go down in history with the likes of bette davis. she will always b a true silver screen legend. better than 2day's shity actors we have, i bet none of them will still b heard of in 40 yrs time. so much talent & charisma. the roles she played in sophies choice & the iron lady my god just so powerful, no 1 could have done it better. meryl u have always bin & always will b a true screen icon xxx
This is fun to watch and Meryl Streep’s brilliance is astounding!! However, I would have appreciated if you had continued naming the languages she was speaking through the entire video and also if you had included the name of each movie!
"And yet here one is", always amazes me how she can capture anyone's personality. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that all these characters are portrayed by one person. Each is distinct, each is nuanced up to the smallest detail, and boy do those details count. Everyday I have a new favorite performance of hers and it's astounding and thrilling that, that is possible. Today is Sister Beauvier.
Meryl you are the best I watch every day one of your movies you are a great actress God bless you for all your talents and thank youfor all your movies
Amazing. Her movies are timeless and still refreshes my mind her distinctive accent. She is a perfect woman born with a rare tongue. A linguistic should i say.
Wow, she really is an acting legend. And people use that term lightly now, but she really is on a whole another level. I feel the same awe for her acting skills as I do when I meet an genius level intellectual. There's just something they are able to achieve that breaks the barrier between what is effort and what is prodigy.
And along with these incredible performances can now be added her flawless portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, as always, her utter consumption of the character in hand means you never see Meryl Streep while all the time watching her...amazing!
Good god this woman is such a hollywood legend.I know 2 years ago i saw the top 10 best meryl streep performances on watchmojo's channel in 2013 eversince then , As a hollywood actress and a huge ass epic legend she's been I showed a massive amount of respect to her.Hell i didn't know she made movies in the 20's and 80's before i was born(so she's as old as my grandmother!) in late 1989!!! =O MINDBLOWN! I wonder if she ever did any cartoon animation voice overs !? ^_^
She also did a British Accent when she played Margaret Thatcher in the Oscar winning film “The Iron Lady”. She also played the Eastern European cousin in Mary Poppins Returns
Yes and I saw an interview that Meryl states that the producers of the movie would not even allow her to audition because they were looking for a Polish actress for the part and her agent was the one that fought for her to let them audition her for the part!!!I am so glade she showed the
Meryl Streep? When it comes to performance or a role or a person that is known for what they done did doing or is This actor is on top of the game bar None..I am a movie person who looks at every kind from 1920's to today's modern movies and making them..There has never ever been a actor as Meryl Streep..There are really great actors as good but none are better the Meryl Streep in that area she stands alone at the top of this acting role playing person personality game..Meryl Streep is The Awesome One and only there has never been any actor that can do what she does the way she does it masters it plays it and be it..
her Australian accent is off. Everything else seems pretty spot on, albeit a little exaggerated (some of them). Still, I can't think of any better actress of our time. Also her Maggie Thatcher should be on this, that was amazing.
Actually, she was imitating Lindy Chamberlain rather than a pure Aussie accent. Chamberlain was from NZ, although she had lived in Australia for a number of years by then.
Chamberlain has a NZ accent, hence Streep's Aussie accent was with NZ twist. Pretty much what she did in Sophies where her German had Polish accent. This fact artistically speaking, 'canonizes' her.
Streep is playing a woman who has a blend of a New Zealand and Australian accent and she is speaking in Lindsay Chamberlain's voice so she is not trying to do an Australian accent she's trying to speak in Lady Chamberlain's voice and the iron lady would not be filmed for another year when his video was released so your criticisms are not valid
