Kind of mirrors a bit of a modern kitchen culture shift. Past (and still present) kitchens of these high caliber chefs and their "students" have famously been on the more high tension and abusive side, but there's definitely been a shift the last couple decades away from the screaming tyrant archetypes. Not to say it's completely shifted, kitchen environments, especially at these levels, are inherently pushed, tested, and stressful.
i think maybe the scene with Marcus and the man on the bike is symbolic of him finally being able to help someone in need because he can't really do much about helping his mom
I thought it was about getting a hug. He takes care of his mother, but she can’t give him a hug, although we know she wants to. Also what Luca said about living life outside the kitchen. Which seems to be the opposite of how Carmen approached things.
that moment with Marcus and the guy in the accident and the music, really made me think something soooo bad is gonna happen to him overseas. So glad it didnt!!!
Yea, it was a clever subversion of the late night mishap trope.With the ominous music, we're lead to believe that guy was gonna die, and Marcus would be liable and get in to trouble with the local cops, etc. But it was just a drunken bike ride home and the dude tripped and fell off his bike, and Marcus was just there to help him get up.
i like to think that the bicycle scene served as marcus experiencing life outside and using that as inspiration for his cooking. luca even said that he won’t improve unless he goes out and lives life
As a swede this is the first time I've seen a place I've been in a show/film. My grandpa lives right across the bridge from Copenhagen so been there many times. When marcus was taking photos over the canal to the other side, I remember sitting there with my mom having a cold beer and a shrimp sandwhich like 10+ years ago. I love the vibe of this episode! I appreciate seeing an American in Scandinavia without making a bunch of jokes about how bad the food is or whatever, we are very good at baking. My grandpa and his grandpa was a baker in a small town in Sweden, my mom is a very good baker too and always makes me fat with her various pastries... Anyway just wanted to say this is my fav ep of the show by far, loved it. Also the Ikea comment by his roomate was on point.. Don't mix up Danish and Swedish things unless you want war lmao
As a daughter of a Swedish mother from Stockholm, I relate to much of what you say! My mom excelled at baking, and Swedish treats at Christmas time were always wonderful. And yes, do NOT confuse Danish food with Swedish food! 😂
@@Divamarja_CA that's great to hear! I've always wanted to visit places in north America that had Swedish roots as most of my family emigrated to US/Canada back in the late 1800s. Whenever I see my surname which is quite uncommon here pop up I wonder if it's a distant cousin..

Ikr! I'm Swedish but spent a lot of time in copenhagen as my grandpa lives right at the bridge outside malmö. First time i've seen a place I've been in american tv/film. Pretty cool I remember having a beer with my mom right across the canal where he takes photos
man such a nice chill episode, but for some reason i was on the edge of my seat waiting and fearing something bad is going to happen. that bicycle scene was nerve wracking :)
it took this reaction to realize what that scene with Marcus and the biker was about. I think that the entire time he was in Copenhagen, he felt like he wasn't able to take care of his mom and it was eating away at him. that incident with the biker symbolized his ability to finally help someone and do what he couldn't do for his mom. I think he really needed that.

Guys your young and should try all kinds of food at least once. Anything well made is worth trying. Caviar is tricky. You need to find a good one and prepared with something.
