As a woman, I can tell you, I didn't go to see Marvel films to see myself represented. I went there to see hot masculine men saving the day. There's no fun in it for me to watch a bunch of girl bosses showing just how incompetent the men around them are.

Here is a concept: Women want to see hot MEN, not middle-aged and average-looking women. Marvel is failing because they removed all the good-looking men that women found attractive and that men admired for being badasses. How Disney hasn't figured this out is beyond me. If they want my business, female characters are fine...But bring back hot MEN!

Marvel Studios advertised this movie as NOT for me plus it's DIRECTOR said it's a FEMALE Empowerment movie. FINE, I didn't go support it. Exactly! The female fans that were already fans of marvel and all these IPs over the last few decades, were no different to the male audience and fans. They also love watching male comic book heroes. You don't want to watch a snarky ALL female cast of characters. So, if male fans are being told it's not for them, its not for the female fans either. The pandering to "female fans" and forced "this is what you want" is insulting. The actual female fans are ignored along with the main male audience. We all want source material and good story.

It is kinda nice to see the Marvel Studios movies now finally being accurate to the Marvel Comics that also killed their respective industry. Oh well. Guess the 2020s will now be the Video Game/Toy Movie era.

The fault lies with whomever decided to make the show Agent Carter into Mary Tyler Moore meets the X-Files. After her one-shot I expected to see Peggy Carter and the Howling Commandos hunting down Hydra sleepers in post war Europe.

Let me share with you a tale of two movies: First let's consider Iron Man, since it kicked off the most successful film franchise in the history of the world. Iron Man had a bunch of cool gadgets and tech, scenes of soldering and welding, plus it was full of futuristic engineering and military equipment, and it contained a whole bunch of expensive cars. Now let's look at this most recent bomb. The Marvels had a long song and dance number, a slumber party where the main characters have a lot of "wacky fun", multiple scenes of talking about feelings, and it contained a whole bunch of "cute" cats. Which of these two movies do *you* think will attract the male demographic more?

Why do we allow them to call it DEI, we should be calling it DIE.

The only way to fight them as a customer is to boycott their product (movies, series, etc) no matter what.

I love that the Deadline article says it's not because of "superhero fatigue" and then basically rephrases superhero fatigue as the reason.

If you look at the history of this genre and how little respect Hollywood has ever had for it, even during its best moments, it really shouldn't surprise anyone that when this property is handed over to a bunch of elitists at Disney, it would be warped to fit their narrative and remove everything they deem "unattractive" to their tastes. This is pure and simple sabotage and no one in Hollywood is going to miss this genre if it goes away because very few ever found value in its guiding principles.

The problem with the concept of Superhero Fatigue is that in a roundabout way it admits Superhero movies are a trend, and people just went along with it than actually enjoying them as movies... it was never about quality but chasing what everybody was doing

One thing they're probably missing is that likely nearly every woman was going with a male, whether BF, husband, kid, brother, whatever. Male-centric movies pulling in the added tickets. Women w/women are generally just going to pick something else. It's not like the box office is a solo endeavor for people. They thought they were going to get a 'girlfriends' movie in addition to guys and failed abysmally. I think both sides would also tend to sneer at this as a date movie in general.

Its amazing to watch such unbridled success just be thrown out the window. Fascinating.

I don't know why other women didn't go see this movie but I an tell you why I didn't. I'm not wasting my time or money on this. When you give me something I want to see I'll pay to see it. Until then I'm out.

Actually people were complaining about this issue with over exposure from the moment they started putting shows on Disney+ Same with Star Wars. We don't want to see "B" and "C" list Marvel characters as the stars of the movie, take note Disney! Just use the "A" listers as a vehicle to see if the B and C characters would work to start with.

Isn't it interesting that the same Hollywood absolutely hates the Marvel committee for holding back the creatives and how bad a group is for a universe -- but in the same breath they love the Lucasfilm Story Group for being a committee that directs all stories for a universe. Or is it simply that they love "the message" that we are all sick of....

The secret to MCU's universal appeal was that it toned down the more out there concepts found in comics. They told the same compelling stories and moral dilemmas in believable, realistic settings. Even when they got into space and magic, they didn't use any concepts that hadn't been around for decades.

My uncle saw a video that details another reason why Kennedy is still there: there's a clause in her contract that basically states that no matter how incompetent she proves herself to be, she cannot be fired on that basis, and instead can only be fired if she crosses a major moral line.

How does Marvel see how identity politics killed its comics sales and think it was a good idea to apply it to movies

Very slightly off topic but here in the UK, to increase diversity in occupations such as doctors in the medical profession, and commercial pilots, there is a push to lower the entrance exam pass marks because it's believed they are too high for some groups to achieve.

Warner should also consider installing a creative committee for DC. It would work well to help James Gunn with all the projects, and it would also give him a reason to get rid of Tom King and that woman that wrote birds of Prey and The Flash. After this weekend and with these numbers, compounded with the fact that Nelson Peltz is coming for Iger with Pearlmutter’s help. Should Kevin Fiege be terrified? Pearlmutter is someone that does hold a grudge, and has Fiege even realized that the creative committee was there for a reason? What I like about Superheroes: Cool action scenes, overcoming the odds, over the top villains, hero stories, interesting worlds, boys being boys, epic stakes, the heroes being broken to get back up again. Where is any of that in the MCU?

It has nothing to do with “superhero fatigue”… it’s simply wokeness fatigue. They literally attack men, and constantly race and gender swap beloved characters. Men constantly talked down to, insulted, and portrayed as either foolish, incompetent, toxic, or all of the above. Plus, they have made a female version of every single male superhero… female Thor, female Ironman, female hulk, female Hawkeye, female Captain America, female Loki, female black panther, etc. Yet every traditional female character is never given a male counterpart. It’s simply anti-male sexism.

The first step in fixing a problem is to look it in the face and call it by name unabashedly and unflinchingly. There is no “superhero movie fatigue”. The fatigue - and there is a fatigue - is from bad movies. Poor writing, disjointed stories, unappealing characters, “the message”, DIE activism. People want to be entertained. When a good movie comes along the public goes to see it. It is evidentially so. Hollywood has been entertaining people for over a century. They have the recipe to the secret sauce and it’s an open secret. The problem is that some of the dinner guests are objecting to the ingredients so the head chefs and the kitchen staff are bending over backwards to accommodate a few of the complainers. What the chefs and the kitchen staff need to do is say “this is a steak house. If you want vegetarian raw food then eat somewhere else or open your own restaurant”. Yea, vegans annoy me because we all know that veganism is a part of the Venn diagram of radical leftism. Who knew that antisemitism and pro-Hamas fanaticism would be included in the diagram? My predictions are usually pretty good but I didn’t see that one coming, Anyway, that’s why I used that analogy, and you did say “secret sauce” Andre. I just had to work with it. I can tell you first hand from the inside of a large employer that DEI has on the DL been changed to D&I. All traces of DEI have been scrubbed. ESG is still a thing but someone finally got wise to what the E in DEI actually means. I work for a company that is in the business of making money for the shareholders, not a charity. Then there’s the thorny issue of what the E means in the employer-employee relationship. So, yeah, the E is scrubbed. ESG is not going to go away. That’s my low-odds prediction. My second prediction is that ESG will be watered down as time goes on. The ink on the page with dry and age and will eventually not be the document it once was. It will eventually be one of those paper tigers that roam the halls of many corporations, organizations and bureaucracies. It’s the animal that starts strong out of the gate and runs itself tired and eventually into the ground. That’s why I’m not afraid of paper tigers. ESG and DEI started strong out of the gate but that was back in the Old Economy. Thank you for sharing this. One reason, imo, this film failed is it has uninteresting characters who have no arcs [compared to earlier MCU films]. Audiences, even on a subconscious level, go to films for character stories, not CGI action sequences and sporadic comedic jokes. This film was a 2 out of 10; and even Danvers' upgraded suit was a symbolic representation of the film - muted and lifeless.

Funny thought. The land of Hollywood, where everyone and everything is disposable, thought the success of their work would be permanent. Madness.

thank you for making this video and breaking down why Marvel failed. I will pass this one to all my friends who are puzzled as to why I don't watch anything Marvel anymore. It seem Iger and Feige made a deal with the Devil, (the DEI) and now they own their soul., and when it came time to pay up, they can't so they suffer, by losing us as fans.

Disney is too "diverse" for it's own good. Another aspect of DEI that has hurt them that I've not seen mention of.......had Disney actually focused on making Kang......look like Kang....as in a Blue Faced armored warrior.......they would not have to be worrying about replacing Johnathan Majors due to his legal issues..... Kang, done correctly, could have been played by a black, white, latin or Asian guy had they actually made him look as he looks in the comics.......but Disney had to force a race card for the character. Now, they have a huge problem......due to their own continued forced DEI decisions.

Okay, why am I, a woman who likes superheros and scifi not seeing the Marvels in the movie theater? 1) I was never a fan of Marvel comics, So they're not a priority to me. I'm more inclined to go see a Batman movie. Batman was my childhood. None of the Marvel characters awaken fond memories in me. Though I'm partial to Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan as Professor X and Magneto. 2) I have a Disney Plus subscription. I've never been someone who needed to see movies in the theater when I can see them eventually. And post-pandemic, the only movies I have considered going to the theater for were Ghostbusters, and the two Spider-Man movies. I didn't actually go out to see them, but I at least thought seriously about it. And then I decided to wait. 3) I used Disney Plus to do some research on Ms. Marvel before the TV series aired by watching the cartoon shorts available there. And I decided she annoyed the crap out of me. It's totally a personality thing, but I didn't watch her TV show and I have no interest in this character. 4) I'm told Ms. Marvel is now going to be the entre into the X-Men, and I don't like her in that position either. I'm not super attached to the X-Men, but they've at least been amusing and I don't want her ruining that experience for me. 5) I don't want to do homework to watch a movie. Disney went with tying their TV shows too tightly to the MCU. Something like Loki, for example, can exist outside of the MCU continuity. If you see it, great. It provides a different perspective. But if you don't see it, it doesn't matter. You can enjoy them MCU, at least as it stands, just fine. So too something like What If? But if you haven't seen WandaVision and Ms. Marvel, you're likely going to be lost watching the Marvels, and that's not the viewing experience I want. So I'm not about to pay extra for it this time around, even though i did watch WandaVision, and I at least have a clue who Ms. Marvel is. 6) The initial marketing showed the movie off as a kind of fun power-swapping action comedy. I liked that aspect of it. Then it suddenly shifted gears to some weirdly aggressive war story and I'm just confused. 7) I don't know what the heck is going on with Nick Fury. I used to like him, and then he got all this weird alien invasion plotline and now he's in space and he's just kind of boring. My favorite movie in the MCU is Captain America: Winter Soldier. Part of the reason it was great was that it had interesting things for Fury and Black Widow to do as supporting cast. They really got to show off their strengths as super spies. This? Doesn't really seem like it. They're just not getting good plots, and Nick Fury seems old and crotchety rather than dedicated and driven. So mostly the characters are a turn off and the writing looks bad, capped by the fact that I can get it for free in 4 to 6 months.

DEI killed it because to Hollywood, diversity means race swapping characters instead of creating new stories, inclusion is just a hot word meaning the exact same thing and equity means we may be shittier but we deserve an S class budget for our F class film. DEI is legit Affimative action under a different name

A tiny audience watches Disney+, and not 100% of that tiny audience watched the Marvel TV projects. In a surprise twist not all of those viewers actually liked those TV projects. Making in an extremely expensive movie sequel to cheap looking 'TV' projects that were not very popular, seems a bone headed move. Then, being a sequel to a well performing but disliked movie, having no attractive characters, having a reputation for stuffing their projects with political ideology, and stories of studio interference post shooting, and the director walking away from the project, sounds like a recipe for failure.
