I'm an American music lover. A friend in Australia shared this song with me today. I absolutely fell in love with it! So much so, that I ordered a CD with this song on it! Its now one of my favorite songs! Sad to hear the bassist has passed away. Bass guitar is my favorite. My fiancée's himself is an ex bassist in the UK! RIP
I played this song for my stepson's funeral after he died of Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 12. As this song was playing, pictures of his childhood happy times with the family were flashing across the video screen for the audience. It was very touching for all and still brings a tear to my eyes more than 19 years later. To me this song is far deeper than just expressing love for a partner, its also about being an individual and someone special within the lives of others.
Glenn Wheatley - gone too soon. My introduction to rock was this band when I was 10 and I have loved it ever since. I am so sad for the loss of a wonderful man. Peace and love to his family.
Glenn Wheatley was a man so many of our politicians and other authority figures could learn from. He made mistakes during his life, but at least he admitted to them and took full responsibility.
Vale Glenn Wheatley, passed away today 2nd February 2022. Bassist for the Masters Apprentices and icon of the Australian music industry as a manager and promoter. A selfless and skilful entrepreneur who guided the careers of so many great artists. Go quietly into the night brave soul. "Do what you want to do, be what you want to be."
Proud to be an Aussie. Reminiscing.....great era of music that was the 60's and 70's. Thank you Jim, Doug, Colin and Glen for music that we'll never forget!
I love this. This was my song for my beloved Peter. Who was tragically taken in a motorcycle accident 1994. I love you Pete...always did and always will. xxxxxx
Hello future person, yes we are still listening to It's Because I Love You in *[insert date here]* . You have great taste in music too. Have a fantastic day!
this song is an absolute classic, first released in 1970 and here we are in 2011,41 years later and the songs sounds as fresh today as it was when it was first released
I was there when they started up in Adelaide. Had their hit records 'Because I Love You', 'Undecided', 'Buried and Dead' and 'Turn Up Your Radio'. We had another amazing group in Australia at that time, 'The Easybeats' from Sydney.
I saw them live a number of times - if they were in America and not Australia they would have been huge. Leaders in their day. Jim Keyes the lead a great singer. Later he was in a 3 piece collaboration called Keyes Cotton and Morris. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j0BSrkrdNws.html
I know I'm late to the party with this comment, but ... here in Australia, we still hear the chorus "Do what you wanna do, be what you wanna be, yeah" played from time to time in TV commercials for various things. In fact, at the moment, the national public broadcaster (the ABC) is playing that chorus in one of its channel promotions. This song came out when I was a teenager, so it's quite "contemporary" to me, but it amazes me that it's still being used fifty years on and heard incidentally on TV by people whose parents weren't even born when it came out.
RIP Colin Burgess the drummer who has passed away at the young age of 77. Had the pleasure of seeing them only once in Sydney in the mid 80's when they reformed and put on a fantastic rock n roll show, which had lots of other musos in the audience to see a band of legends and they didn't disappoint at all.
Listened to The Masters Apprentices when they won the Hoadlys Battle of the sounds in the early/mid sixties. Just wish you could turn back the clock to hear this fantastic band in all their glory again. What a great era to grow up in. Be what you want to be!!!
I was so privileged to see these guys in Sydney in 1986 - having been too young to have seen them live in 1966! The 1986 show was tight, loud and such a celebration...this song performed , was beyond all of that: reading Kimball's story brings home just how much heart and soul this song possesses. The feeling in the room was so powerful...how lucky we are to have an Australian band such as this.
It took me four days to find out who sang this song,,and it turned out to be someone on youtube, I am 43 years old living in Chicago, and I have never herd of this band, or this song, and I HAVE TO SAY OH MY GOD,,,,UNBELIEVEABLE MUSIC,,JUST INCREDIBLE, IVE NEVER HEARD ANYBODY WITH THIS KIND OF SOUND THANKS

AND tragically, almost impossible to get international recognition. We were so proud of our music, but felt very offended that the international market showed no interest in anything from down under, as if we didn't exist. AND more sadly, our market wasn't big enough to sustain all our wonderful bands. BUT it is so good when our music gets discovered here on YT by music fans all over the world and they 'rave' about it, just like we did and do. Stupid US record companies, and radio stations that couldn't be told, what we thought was a real good thing.
Fair to say if Masters Apprentices had been US or UK based or had they come along now ... could have been one of the biggest bands in the world - they were great ... take some time out and check their other songs.
Such a great song. I was in London 1971 at Grand Funk railroad/Humble Pie concert and as walking through crowd who comes towards us but the Masters themselves. Me and my brother said hi and had a brief chat. Made my day. Many years later Jim was Dj at some place in St Kilda. Told him about our breief chat. Ended up having a longer talk to him about London and concert.. So sad him and Glenn have now gone but the music lives on.
Yes I can appreciate that. Its captivating and thoughtful at the same time as being happy.Cheers, John.Wish it was out there more.Excellent orchestration as well.
The Master's Apprentices were a great band and played at my high school Social/Prom for the night. I think we had booked them early because they were pretty big by the time they played at our local hall. A fantastic night, we were all into the music then.
Always dreamed about doing what I want. That's getting harder and harder nowadays. Worked with a band member for a few years..very inspiring and great cook. ❤️
His funeral was the greatest I have ever been to, they way it was all organised was amazing. The songs from Russell Morris were amazing. So many talented amazing people in the one place.
I stood in front of them in a bondi wine bar mid week, after they returned from England, hardly anyone was there it was like I had them all to myself ! Wonderful experience . The guitar was enormous they were so heavy Great band MAJICAL MOMENT in my life.
OMG - why have I never heard this before. Just listened to this and Future of our Nation showing this to be one of the great progressive bands, skilful in soft and heavy. And what musical talent! Thanks for the post I am going to hear some more.
Unreal music. I love how RU-vid makes it possible to discover this brilliant music from before you born that I'd never hear if it were left to radio and record companies.
Played this song in acoustic duo for years. Always a crowd favourite, The songs of a time, a generation , our teenage years, are slowly loosing there owners and Masters but are left behind for us to enjoy. RIP Jim Keays
There are a number of classics from this era, Its because of love you is one. What a great legacy from the band, This song never fails to nspire, the music and words are just fantastic.
Awesome! This 60s revival band of mine in the 80's tried to cover this song but it was just beyond us - we were just kids, really, & we were biting off way more than we could chew. We all so admired those guys - total legends! I was fortunate enough to see the Masters perform live in two reunion concerts. I met Jim Keyes and Doug Ford in Mildura in 1999 for the CD promo tour and Jim stayed to talk to me over a beer (he won't remember) but he shook my hand and sign my copy. Top bloke, top band!
