That's probably a reference to a saying from a time there were no brands, the box just said Chocolate and the things inside weren't sometimes always chocolate or even good

Have none of you heard of the random assortment chocolate boxes... you never know what the flavor/filling is under the chocolate coating. It is still a thing, although most come with a reference card now.
