They don't get more air play precisely because they are 'mavericks'. They're not strictly rock & roll, not strictly country, not strictly Tejano, not strictly classical--not strictly anything. Have you heard them sing the Sinatra's song 'Something Stupid'? Or the Hollies' hit 'Long, Cool Woman In A Black Dress', or 'Blue Moon'? Have you heard Malo sing 'Let It Be Me', 'Around The World', 'Moon River', 'Blue Bayou', etc.? They're repertoire is so extensive that they can't be defined by genre. They're... The MAVERICKS! We have a local radio station that has a request show on weekends. I usually call in a Mavericks song, and the announcer loves them, too!
Raul Malo's voice has no flaws. His vibrato is perfect. His tone is perfect. His falsetto is perfect. And plus, he can sing anything: opera, country, pop, classical..... Literally no flaws. His voice might just be the best I've ever heard.
The Mavericks...Probably Americas best all around band today. Each player is a master of his part, not a one is half assed about it, and of course, Malo and Eddie have taken them to musical highs that every other band wishes for.

For what it's worth 61drumbum, The Mavericks are NOT Country!! Never have been! They draw their influences from a wide variety of music genres. Don't even try to classify them in one category! They are quite simply AWESOME! No category could possibly do them justice.
I just saw Grudge Match with Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro. The movie has this song playing through the end credits and immediately caught my attention! Beautifully sung and accompanied!!!!! Awesome!!! I just became a Maverick's fan!! 😍😍😍😍
Saw these guys as they started out here in Miami at backyard parties and tiny clubs--a very cool scene in those still-early days of South Beach. Thanks for posting; what a great sound these guys have!
The Mavericks are their own categorie!! They just plain rock! Love all the descriptions of this song but especially the one saying it has a "sexy swagger"! Can't stop listening to this song!! Their CD is out too and has several really good songs on it. "In Time" Buy it!!

I actually first heard this fantastic band today on my local radio station the great KRVM in Eugene, Oregon. thank you KRVM and thank you "The Mavericks" for making my day brighter and happier. It is so what I needed in overcast Eugene Oregon. I look forward to hearing their entire catalogue. I just wish they had tour dates closer to the NW. May the Mavericks live and play forever!
I saw the Mavericks on Friday night at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ. What a great time. I love it when a band is really into what they are doing and having a good time....its infectious. And can Raul Malo sing or what???

I love the forcefulness of this song - every time Raul stamps his foot down you just know that he means what he is saying!! Love the saxophone and the drum beat and that "Havana Nights" sounding trumpet too. Best damn song to come along in a long time.
Good Ear Candy! LOL Great Latin beat mixed with a trumpet, and a sax,,you can't go wrong! Love the trumpet solo! I love watching the guy playing the key board, he's getting down! When you add some brass to a song, it's always GOOOD! !

tHIS BAND TO ME HAS ALWAYS BEEN SOMEWHAT UNDERRATED AND THEY ARE SO GOOD IN EVERYTHING THEY DO...THEY ARE ALL SO GOOD...IN THEIR OWN RIGHT AS MUSICIANS,ETC....MAKE SUCH GREAT MUSIC.
Who is the awesome trumpet player? My band plays this song and I mangle the solo every time, this cat NAILS it, best version I've heard, to the point I've blatantly plagiarized his solo intro, trill and all. Past that, I have to stay in my range. This guy just kills, for those who don't know, there are very few trumpet players out there that can nail a double B, much less those that can do it as a cha cha cha.
