In a way, Margot was allowed to escape because she's very good at HER profession: she figured out what her client secretly desired (to feel the joy of cooking a simple meal for an appreciative customer), and then she created a scenario where her client could fully experience that desire. And Chef was so grateful for that final happy experience, he let her go as a way of saying "thank you." :)
@AnnekeOosterink
@AnnekeOosterink 3 месяца назад
Also, she provided a service, part of that service is payment. Slowik clearly values that, so when she asks for payment in the form of an escape, while still acting out the scene even, he has to give her that as part of his own convictions.

I like to think that the only reason chef let her live is because the alternate ending that she proposed worked better conceptually. She wasn't supposed to be there and not like the others so I think the combo of that fact, plus the fact that she transported him back to a time where he actually enjoyed cooking, and the cheeseburger ties together the whole menu as one of his cooks put it. That's why i love the ending so much. :P

@RawTimee 27 дней назад
I think he let her go because he could see she only did it to help herself, not save him from himself or save anyone else. Only herself in the end. And when she eats the burger and wipes her mouth either the menu, shes basically saying i am an eater/taker.

She wasn't let go for challenging him. She was let go because she brought him back to a time when he was happy to make food for people who were happy to eat it. It wasn't him shameful past. It was his humble, un-corrupted beginnings. That photo and when he was actually cooking her burgers are the only times you see him smile in the whole film. And a lot of people think it's her her experience as a call girl that allows Margot/Erin to intuit what the chef actually needs and wants. And it only would have been acceptable from her because she's the only one there he hadn't already been planning to kill for who-knows-how-many-months-or-years. He already felt a certain kinship with her as a misused service worker. He WANTED her to find a way out and was relieved when she was clever enough to find one that, in the end, didn't disrupt his vision for grand artistic revenge.

Yes, she challenged him.

Well said! He let Erin go because she made him happy to cook for someone again, something he said he hadn’t felt like doing for a long time. Excellent movie!

Did she really get away? I think that burger was past it’s expiration time
@AnnekeOosterink
@AnnekeOosterink 3 месяца назад
@@MT-si3bu Why would it be though? Chef Slowik cares about fulfilling the social contract of providing a service and then getting paid for that, why would he then break that contract? Lots of people point to the dried meat as the source of the "poison" (bacteria really), but 1, dried meat is to be eaten as is, so not cooked. The bacteria would die when cooked, and 2, making a dried meat hamburger and frying it would result in very very very dry sad meat that would look more like a piece of charcoal. It does not magically become a juicy hamburger.

As a former service industry worker with a dark sense of humor, I couldn't stop laughing at this the first time I saw this. When I watched reactions from actual higher end chefs and their evaluations of the dishes served in the film, I marveled even more at how smart this film was. Thank you for your reaction and appreciation.

I love this movie!! On a side note, I read that the director filmed the lady critic being waterboarded with a huge bowl of broken emulsification, but then cut it because it was too distressing.

When I saw the poster, I thought it was a comedy drama film about a food critic and his girlfriend try to oust a world class chef for being a fraud. Then I learned it's a dark comedy horror movie.

The one thing that bugs me the most about Tyler's BS is the leeks. The tight layers of leeks mean dirt gets trapped in them very easily. You're supposed to soak them in water and then rinse them at least once. So when Chef takes a bite, I always think "mmm, dirt." Also my boyfriend was not thrilled that he shares a name with the Nicholas Hoult character.

This movie is just so fun. An easy watch that really surprised me. Keeps you guessing and I love that everyone thinks there will be a cannabalism twist but its just too obvious so Im glad they never went there. Such a unique experience. Funny and downright silly but still well done. :)

If it were a shameful past, it wouldn’t be such a large piece of focus in his home. It was the largest because it’s when he was happiest. The only photo he was smiling in.

On first watch, I was too busy saying 'WTF?' every few minutes. I also expected them to be chopped up and served. On second watch, I could appreciate it more, after i knew what to expect. *chefs kiss* One of my favorite scenes was idiot Tyler peeking in the window, jealous of the women getting a dish he didn't. As soon as the guys came back in, he grabbed some of the food before it could be cleared from the table. *smh*

The chef's workers have no other lives aside from their jobs. They eat, sleep, and live on the island. They sleep just about on top of each other, seem to have to use the bathroom in public from what we see of their accommodations, and get up at 6 am together every morning to prepare the ingredients, then spend the rest of the day cooking them. No family, no friends, no breaks, no hobbies, no outside contacts aside from their rich customers. This is the result and reality of their dreams of being chefs, and if they had any complaints they could be told that thousands of people would be thrilled to take their place working for such a famous, illustrious chef. Of course, they're indoctrinated, a cult. This is their life, and it's a nightmare.

This movie goes from wtf to wtf? to wtf!?! 🤣🤣 It's such a fun movie to exchange opinion, great satire movie! For me, I think one of the reason Chef let Erin go, bcs she wasn't belong there in the first place and she found a way out that didn't shatter his delusion. P. S. Would love to see you guys react to Violent night, a Christmas movie with John Leguizamo in it!

Great film, only ended up watching because it stars the sublimely gorgeous Anya Taylor-Joy, glad I did. A thing most people are missing is Margo may not have escaped scot free, there's a theory the burger was poisoned, don't subscribe to it myself.
