I was exactly looking for this answer. When i was watching other videos on the same topic they emphasized more on UI. So i had a doubt, if we have to conduct user research or not but this video clarified my doubts
I can definitely resonate with this. I've been redesigning a major grocery store app and most of my testing participants (moderately tech savy and in their 40's) have had trouble searching for things. There's a search icon that's present, but they keep missing it due to a noisy page. Apart from reducing the noise, a search bar has been an obvious upgrade.
I agree on the low hanging fruit, some things are obvious and don't require any additional research. Sometimes doing usability testing to find issues can work as well and stake holder interviews to see why do they want a redesign.
This is a great strategy, Mike! I would like to know what are your thoughts about design exercises during interviews. What do you think they "prove" to a potential employer outside of what a designer presents on their portfolio (from a UX designer perspective, showcasing their actual process and approach to addressing user issues)? Are they necessary?
Mike, I saw the redesign video on the membership site and it was amazing. I would definitely like to see more of these kinds of videos and other design challenges because you detailed your process and I definitely would like to continue to learn your approach.
