In this tutorial I demonstrate the method and materials I use to apply graffiti art to HO Scale post-modern period rolling stock. Micro Scale Decals: www.microscale.com/Merchant2/m...
This is the Micro Sol setting solution: www.microscale.com/Merchant2/m...
These are the Micro Scale Decal sheets I am presently using:

Thank you for this, I was scared of doing these decals on hoppers and boxcars that aren’t smooth like the newer hoopers but this taught me, thank you so much

You are welcome. They take a few applications and some work to get them to settle down.

Excellent tutorial for those of us who need a little experience to lay down some graffiti decals!

Graffiti is mainstream on rail equipment now-a-days. I tend to model the period of 2000-2010 so I like to tag the odd one here and there.

Hi Boomer, this is the first time I've seen your video and I really like it! You demonstrated how to apply decals in a simple manner and with a great explanation for each step. Thank you for your help. I will be using your method. I draw and make my own decals because of the expense to purchase them. Besides the good Lord gave me the talent so I applied it on my trains and buildings. Hey, have a blessed day!

Thank You Michael. It must be nice to make you own graphics. Something I never really ventured into. Thanks for sharing that. Cheers ~ Boomer.

Great video and tutorial. I like the way you model your decals, and your past video's prove you are a great modeler. I changed my methods over the years and have a pretty good way of doing it myself. Everything I've tried from Tamiya works great. Thank you for sharing , Dave .

Try the Vallejo dull coat i buy that if i can't get the Testers brand & you get way more out of a can than a Testers one at a lower price.

Thank You. Sounds good but my local doesn`t have any in stock. I`ll ask next time I`m there. You are right about the Testers though. Brutally low content for the price. Cheers.

Boomer, great video as usual. I like microscale decals as well. I use micro sol to set up my decals, and sometimes if I have a decal that has to go over a very irregular shape I will use walthers solvaset. The bottle of solvaset I have is so old I can't remember when I bought it. It works great, but it's quite a bit hotter and using it you might think you ruined your decals but as they dry they straighten out.

Yes. Solvaset works great.

Hi Boomer. Would it be beneficial to use a makeup sponge as opposed to a paint brush to dab your decal? Would it be less apt to tear the decal? Take care. Sean.
@boomerdiorama

Maybe, but I don't care about tearing the odd decal or using a makeup sponge. No such thing as perfection no matter how hard you try . . . ;-) 😁

Thank you. I work in N scale and I have found that MicroScale decals tear far too easily before applying them. I don't know if it's me being too quick to try to move the decal to the surface or if it's a defect in the MicroScale decals themselves. Any thoughts?
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 года назад
Every decal can tear. Maybe it's a "batch " issue. I have been using Micro Scale for thirty years and find them to be the best out there.

Any model train store should sell them.

is this the same for if i were to do an autorack car?
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 месяца назад
Yes. But you have to apply the Micro Sol several times to get the decal to lay down. Sometimes you need to pin-prick the air bubbles down and re-soak with micro sol until the decal forms down nice.

Hi Boomer, regarding the Tamiya TS-80 flat clear. I've always heard that you should not apply lacquers over acrylics. Is that false?
@boomerdiorama
@boomerdiorama 2 месяца назад
You can apply anything over acrylics with a few exceptions.
