I Was KROQ,s First VAN DRIVER . AKA GO-FER -- AKA REQUEST TAKER -- AKA UNPAID INTERN for about two years when KROQ was in Pasadena . That was when Jed The Fish worked days and the poor man was just starting his career . I was on call during the day . Driving DJs to Concerts or Grand openings at record stores all over the L.A. Area , Taking Rodney over to Poo Bah's Records to look for something special, All Vinyl . And on weekends my job was with Rodney at night , Taking Requests and making sure he had enough TAB and Veggie Pizza on hand. The Logo on my VAN at that time , KROQ FM Turning 106.7 UP. It was a Baby Blue 1978 Dodge Van . All later KROQ Vans were little Mini Vans. CHERISH EVERY DAY PEOPLE. You can not get them BACK!
It’s said this song was also the reason why the smile tapes got leaked as Brian wanted a copy and traded the smile tapes for it. Also rumours that Dennis leaked it too’ Brian does a rendition of this song on 1995 album songs for Harry
_Written in tribute to Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson, the song is one of three that were credited jointly to Harry Nilsson and Phil Spector, although Nilsson submitted that he was the sole writer on a 1966 copyright form._
@@Zannathin It did. Brian happened to be at Gold Star Studios when this was recorded. He asked Phil Spector if he could listen in. Brian was so entranced that he listened to the song on repeat for 30 minutes. Years later, in 1973, Brian ran into Harry Nilsson at a party. They got to talking about this very song. Brian sat the piano and played it from memory.
He was a true dickhead tho, pointing gun a the head of one very famous singer he worked with so she would keep trying to record a song while she was exhausted
"I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" and "All I Wanna Do" are the obvious ones -- the melody is in the former and the chords in the latter. "All I Wanna Do" is basically a contrafact of "This Could Be the Night."
The brilliant "Fast' Eddie Hoh on drums who went on to become a first call session player: Donovan (eg Season of the Witch), The Monkees (eg Daydream Believer), Bloomfield, Kooper, Stills Super Session, Tim Buckley, Harvey Mandel etc. He backed The Mamas and Papas at Monterey 1967.
My fave drummer, he emoji’d me just before he died. He laid down the most incendiary piece of drumming ( along with Mitch Mitchell’s Fire, no pun intended) ever recorded on Goin Down. 👌
as I understand it, Spector didn't release this because he didn't feel absolutely convinced that it would be No.1. That's where his ego was at that time. For anyone interested in a lot of interesting information about Phil, read Breaking Down The Wall of Sound by Mick Brown. I still go back and re-read parts!
David Maslow I believe this track, which was a precursor to The Beach Boys' "Wouldn't It Be Nice" in '66, would have definitely reached the number one spot on Billboard!!!
Lyrics: All of these nights that we’ve been a dating All of these nights that we’ve been awaiting Something tells me that the time is getting right Oh, each time we kiss it takes a little bit longer And my love for you gets a little bit stronger And I feel like I’m-a-sittin’ on dynamite So this could be the night The night I’ve waited for This could be the night I’m gonna give her all my love and more Wow, wow, wow When it comes to lovin’ she’s a natural master And each night she’s there well my heart beats faster Deep down inside I know the best is yet to come Oh oh gonna pick her up about a quarter to seven I know were gonna take a little trip to heaven And if it’s love she wants then I’m gonna give her some So this could be the night The night I’ve waited for This could be the night I’m gonna give her all my love and more Wow, wow, wow So this could be the night The night I’ve waited for This could be the night I’m gonna give her all my love and more Wow, wow, wow So this could be the night The night I’ve waited for This could be the night I’m gonna give her all my love and more Wow, wow…
Rodney in the 80's!! What was the other thing he played with the surfer girl talkin about her boyfriend and battle of the bands? It was not Brooke Shields.

i would like to say, as so many others have, that my(now late) cousin phil spector should have released this one. it would have saved his label, and at the same time catapulted to #1 in almost now time at all! I have also heard nilsson's version which is considerably longer.I saw the video of the tnt show (11/65) years ago and it was a real rocker. The modern folk quartet still performs this number and henry diltz sounds has good as ever. Its one of the best compositions that ever was and one the greatest hits that never was. Incidentally, my great grand mother was in fact, phils great aunt-rest in peace harvey phillip spector, my mispucha! Skip J. King from the great state of New Jersey
Theme song to the Pop/Rock documentary "The Big T.N.T. Show" which was filmed at the "Moulin Rouge" Club on Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California on November 29,1965.

To date, three Philles test pressings from October 1965 have surfaced. They are plain, white label styrene discs pressed at Monarch Record Mfg. in Los Angeles. Intended as a possible Philles single release, 'This Could Be The Night' as a 45 rpm record shamefully, never materialized. Here is a photo of one of the discs: www.45cat.com/record/nc525376us

@@brandonbreitkreuz1549 Yes, I have the same. First and only recording of it I've ever heard. When I brought that album home and heard this song I stopped the tone arm and repeated this dozens of times. Hell, maybe more than dozens. My neighbors probably thought I was nuts. Or maybe not.....
That makes some sense. He was a fan of Spector and Harry Nilsson. I came here to see if I could hear that. But it seems it was a bigger influence on Brian Wilson.
Thanks for all the GOOD times PHIL! I wish you had retired into the High Sierras , Where the Scumbags / Leeches / And Prostitutes could have never found you.
